Apple Hiring Extra Employees This August for iPhone 5 Launch

Hot on the heels of reports that Apple Retail UK has been recruiting new staff for an unknown event in the next couple months, new claims have surfaced that Apple is undergoing a similar recruitment drive in the United States.

According to MacRumors, Apple has, in the past, turned to ex-employees to fill the gaps created by staff holidays, and it isn't unknown for them to be used during big product launches, too. Now, one such ex-employee says they have been asked to do just that for what is believed to be the launch of the next iPhone...

Sue Huang's iPhone was taken, and she finally got it back five days later after the thief ransomed it back to her. Thanks to the iPhone's GPS, Sue and her friend Brian were able to recreate where her iPhone had been during the five days that the thief drove around with the device in his car.

They stitched together a video of the stolen iPhone's Google Street View location as it moved throughout the city of LA during a period of five days...

1 Billion Smartphone Sales a Year Expected by 2016

Smartphones are already growing to be more and more popular by the year, with marquee devices like Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy S proving popular with buyers across the globe.

With smartphone sales between the 298 million and 321 million marks, depending on who you listen to, it's fair to say that the industry is on the up already. But, according to new research, it is believed that smartphones could hit the magic 1 billion sales mark as soon as 2016.

In a market that was once dominated by RIM and CrackBerry smartphones, Apple is fast becoming the provider of choice for businesses, according to a new report.

With RIM suffering somewhat of a downturn in sales, Apple's iPhone and iPad are filling the void, with Android currently a smaller player in the world of power ties and pinstripe suits. Apple Now Ships More Smartphones Than Nokia

Apple has finally surpassed the world's largest smartphone vendor, Nokia. In terms of units sold and revenue, Apple now exceeds the Finnish company, with Apple shipping more iPhones than Nokia this last quarter.

AT&T iPhone Activations Match Last Quarter at 3.6 Million

In its second quarter financial results today, AT&T revealed it had activated 3.6 million iPhones during the three-month period ending in June. This figure is identical to that announced for AT&T's first financial quarter, however, it is an increase over the 3.2 million devices activated during the same quarter last year.

After falling over the last 12-18 months, the number of new customers activating iPhones seems to have stabilized. 24% of iPhone activations were for new customers, which is just slightly higher than the first quarter, and significantly lower than the 40% rate during the early days of the iPhone.

Apple Will Sell More iPhones in 2011 Than Every Previous Year Combined

Apple's iPhone is continuing its assault on the smartphone world, with the relative newcomer slapping down another mobile giant when it comes to ad impressions in Europe.

A report coming out of InMobi suggests that Apple's little phone-that-could has streaked past the old foe, Nokia, with the Finish company still reeling from a less than stellar last 12 months.

Apple saw its iPhone gain 3.3 points and rise to 19.5% of all European ad data, while Nokia saw its own results fall almost one point to 18.7%...
