Why I Picked the iPhone 4S: It’s All About Sacrifices

I'm the son of a former Nokia employee, an ex cell phone salesman, and current connoisseur. So I guess you can say that I've played with my fair share of smartphones.

And in my several-year quest to find the perfect handset, I've tried everything from the Nokia 7650 to the latest Android and WP7 devices. But I've only found one phone capable of being my everyday driver.

As you've probably already guessed by now, that phone is the iPhone. No, I'm not an Apple "fanboy" that blindly buys whatever the company releases. I just want the best handset available. And for me, that's the handset that requires me to make the least amount of sacrifices...

The images come from iFixit, the well-known masters of taking apart and rebuilding iOS hardware. The group grabbed the high resolution photos during one of their device tear-downs last year, and they just happen to make cool backgrounds.

Apple Accused of Providing Backdoor iOS Access to Indian Military

ZDNet has just published an interesting report claiming that Apple, along with both RIM and Nokia, has built in backdoor iOS access for the Indian Military, leaving text messages, voice calls, and data trails completely exposed.

As you can imagine, after the recent CarrierIQ scandal, this information is making some waves around the internet. And what's even worse, it sounds like the hidden trapdoor has been used in some not-so-kosher situations...

Microsoft Looking to Bring Xbox LIVE Gaming to iOS

According to a recently-posted job listing, Microsoft is looking to port its Xbox LIVE gaming portal to iOS and other platforms. Although iOS recently received a native Xbox LIVE app, the gameplay portion has remained a WP7-only feature.

The Redmond company has been extremely active in the App Store over the last few months, releasing the aforementioned LIVE app, the popular Kinectimals game, and a SkyDrive client. And it doesn't look like it's slowing down any time soon...

iPhone 4S Still Top-Seller for Sprint, Verizon and AT&T During December

December was another great month for iPhone sales, according to research by Canaccord Genuity analyst Mike Walkley and his crack team of number crunchers, with all three major US carriers seeing the new iPhone 4S top their sales charts.

Two months after its initial release on Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon, the iPhone 4S is still the best-seller for all three of the carriers that offer the handset in the United States, with two Android phones helping make up the top three, the Samsung Galaxy S II and the newer Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Less surprisingly, the top-selling tablet device in the United States was the iPad 2, with the cheaper Amazon Kindle Fire being its nearest competitor. We expect the tablet landscape to alter during 2012 however, with more Android and Windows 8 machines offering more competition for Apple's device...

iPhone Usage Dropped Almost 5% During December

Despite what is sure to be a record-breaking month for Apple's iPhone sales, it appears that the handset's usage share may have actually fallen by almost 5%, if new figures are to be believed.

Advertising network Chikita has released data based on the number of ad impressions across its network while highlighting the top smartphone makers in the arena, with the iPhone seeing a reduction in its share during December.

The big gains came from Android-loving HTC and Samsung during the same period...

Analysts Predict Apple Sold 35 Million iPhones Over the Holidays

After a disappointing [define disappointing] third quarter last year, Apple's CEO Tim Cook made one of the boldest projections in the company's history: Apple is going to sell 30 million iPhones and hit $37 billion in revenue in Q4 of 2011.

To put these numbers in perspective, Apple only sold 17 million iPhones in Q3 of last year, hitting just $28.3 billion in revenue. So you can see why some folks were taken a back by Cook's predictions. But hey, anything can happen, right?
