Dev Team has good news regarding new iPad jailbreak

Even though the new iPad doesn't officially go on sale until tomorrow morning, some folks have already gotten their hands on the one. It appears that some retailers started selling the tablet around midnight tonight.

Of course, now that it's starting to make its way into customers hands, the big question here at iDB is: "when will it be jailbroken?" Luckily, the infamous Dev Team posted some interesting information tonight regarding the topic...

Apps optimized for the new iPad Retina display

Your new iPad just arrived or you picked one up at your local Apple Store earlier today and you already want to take advantage of those 3 million pixels that are packed into this beautiful screen. Don't worry, Apple's got you covered.

The company has created a new section in the App Store called "great apps for the new iPad," which is entirely devoted to apps that have been optimized for the new iPad's Retina display. We list all of them below...

Hands-on with the new iPad!

We just braved the storms to get our hands-on the new iPad to show our lovely readers this evening. Just as a reminder, the third-generation iPad out of Cupertino packs a stunning 2048 x 1536 Retina display, dual-core A5X processor with quad-core graphics, 5-megapixel camera with upgraded sensors, larger battery, LTE, and Dictation...

All of the reviews were right: this Retina display is just absolutely stunning.

Check out our first few moments with the new iPad:

iPad event demo game Sky Gamblers now available

As noted by MacRumors, the simulator known as Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy has just gone live in the App Store. You might recognize the game from Apple's iPad event last week, as it was one of the titles demonstrated on stage.

So what's so special about Sky Gamblers? Well besides being one of the first apps to take advantage of the iPad's new features, its developers are saying that the game delivers "console quality single and multiplayer experiences."

See it in action after the break...

Walmart to start selling new iPads at midnight

Yesterday we told you Apple confirmed that 8am on March 16th was the official launch date and time of the new iPad. But it appears that other retailers are looking to get a head start.

The folks over at Insanely Great Mac are reporting that some Walmart stores are planning to start selling Apple's new tablet as early as 12:01 am (local time) tomorrow morning...

If you were thinking that the new iPad's lack of a redesigned body or quad-core CPU was going to affect customer demand, think again. In typical pre-launch fashion, lines are forming around the world for Apple's new tablet.

Although most retailers won't be opening their doors until 8am tomorrow morning, some stores have announced that they will start selling the new iPad as early as 12:01 EST here in the States...

New iPad takes “several hours” to charge due to bigger battery

For those of you wondering how Apple managed to keep the iPad's legendary 10 hour battery life despite the addition of a Retina display and LTE technology, we've come across a good explanation: the battery is a lot bigger than its predecessors. Surprise!

How much is a lot? Well according to the recent iFixit teardown, and other reports, the new iPad's battery has roughly 70% more capacity than the one used to power the iPad 2. But unfortunately this also means that it takes a lot longer to charge...

The new iPad teardown

Every time Apple releases new hardware, the tech world awaits its inevitable teardown. Apple's products are just as much a feat in engineering as they are sleek and beautiful. And everyone wants to know how they've done it.

The new iPad is no exception. Apple has managed to squeeze over 3 million pixels into the tablet's Retina display, and add a high-speed LTE radio, all while maintaing [roughly] the same size, price and battery life of its predecessors.

So what's going on under the hood to make it all possible? Let's find out...

I0n1c has jailbroken iOS 5.1 on the iPad 2

Ever since Apple released iOS 5.1 last week, a lot of folks have been wondering when the new software would be jailbroken. Older devices can use RedSn0w to perform a tethered jailbreak of sorts, but it's not really a viable solution.

Then a few days ago we told you that pod2g, the hacker largely responsible for the Corona and Absinthe jailbreaks, was working on finding vulnerabilities in iOS 5.1. But it looks like i0n1c has beaten him to the punch...

Apple stock touched above $600 per share this morning

It would seem as if Apple could do no wrong these days. It recently introduced a new tablet that, even though it has yet to officially go on sale, has created quite the buzz among consumers. And its stock has just hit an all time high.

At the end of February, AAPL was flirting with the $550 per share mark. But it fell back down below $520 just before the new iPad was unveiled. Ever since then, however, the stock has been on an unstoppable upward climb...

New iPad still doesn’t allow FaceTime calls over cellular connection

Even though it's been around for a couple of years now, FaceTime has really struggled to gain massive user adoption. Mac and iOS owners just aren't using it as much as you think they would for a free, no-hassle video-calling service.

One of the main reasons for its stumbles is the fact that iOS devices have not been able to make FaceTime calls outside of Wi-Fi networks (unless you're jailbroken obviously). And it doesn't look like that's going to change with the new iPad...
