Dell: The iPad is too shiny for biz

CEO Michael Dell is known as the man of big words and bad predictions, the most infamous being his advice from fifteen years ago to give the money back to shareholds and shut down Apple. Fortunately, Dell's most recent outrageous quote at least hasn't come out of its CEO's mouth.

Another exec, Dell Australia’s managing director Joe Kreme, gets the credit for claiming that Apple's iPad is no fit for big business because it's too "shiny". He's also gone out on a limb to issue a warning to IT managers, saying issues with iOS devices in enterprise can take up to four days to resolve...

Apple opening retail outlets in Chengdu and Shenzhen where iPads are made

Reuters reports that Apple is planning to open two new stores in Chinese cities Chengdu and Shenzhen, regardless of its ongoing legal spat with China's bankrupt display maker Proview over the rights to use the iPad moniker in the 1.33 billion people market.

Chengdu and Shenzhen are also homes to the world's largest manufacturing sites. It's also where contract manufacturer Foxconn runs production facilities where iOS devices are being made...

Angry Birds Space hits 100 million downloads in 76 days

Wow, just wow. Angry Birds maker Rovio just announced in a tweet that Angry Birds Space, the latest installment in the popular series, has hit the hundred million downloads mark across all platforms.

If that didn't give you a pause, remember that just a little over a month ago the game topped 50 million downloads in the first 35 days since its launch (ten million downloads in the first three days)...

MountainLionCenter now available on Cydia

MountainLionCenter — the jailbreak tweak that adds an OS X Mountain Lion inspired Notification Center panel to your iPad, was just released on Cydia's BigBoss repo as a free download.

As noted yesterday, this is a feature that's been long overdue; in my opinion, it makes Notification Center a lot less intrusive feeling on the iPad. Couple it with IntelliScreen X, and it's even better.

It should be noted, that despite my ability to get it working on my iPhone, the tweak has been released as iPad only, at least for the time being. Be sure to check out our full walkthrough of MountainLionCenter, and let me know what you think about it in the comments below.

And just like that, Google snaps up mobile productivity suite Quickoffice

Whoa, looks like another iOS app developer (not exclusive, though) just ended up engulfed in the Google ecosystem as the search giant announced its acquisition of the popular mobile app productivity maker Quickoffice for an undisclosed sum.

The news arrives just as we learned yesterday of Google's intentions to snap up popular instant messaging maker Meebo for a rumored hundred million dollars...

Poll: do you get all worked up over iOS exclusives going Android?

When social network Path released its Android app following the successful debut on the iPhone, barely anyone paid notice. But when Instagram went Android, it spurred lots of controversy. Even Apple’s marketing boss Phil Schiller stopped using the app because it “jumped the shark” when it went to Android.

The debate over iPhone exclusives going Android really heated up with yesterday’s announcement of Instapaper of Android, Marco Arment’s read-later program which became a huge success on the iOS platform.

Should Apple work harder to secure iOS exclusives, which have been around in the console business for ages? Or perhaps this is nothing to get worked up about? Cast your vote now...

No sales ban on Samsung and Motorola tablets in US and Germany

A judge in California this morning decided to hold off on a ruling related to Apple's case against Samsung, meaning Cupertino won't be able to impose a sales ban on Galaxy Tab tablet sales in the United States. Apple's also been dealt another blow in Germany as a court said it's unlikely to grant them the same victory against Motorola's tablet as it'd done with last year's sales ban of the Galaxy 10.1 tablet...

Electronic Entertainment Expo, the industry's biggest interactive entertainment show, is underway in Los Angeles, California and Microsoft juts announced an interesting software solution for wireless media streaming to the Xbox 360 console from devices powered by Apple's iOS and Google's Android mobile operating system.

MountainLionCenter brings OS X’s Notification Center back to iOS

Apple's initiative to bring several highly notable iOS features "back to the Mac" is one of the hallmarks of its upcoming release of OS X Mountain Lion. One of the most touted iOS features to make its way to Mountain Lion is Notification Center. Notification Center on the Mac works similar to the way it does on iOS, with a few noted differences.

One of the main differences is the location of Notification Center — on the Mac it is docked and hidden on the right-hand side of the screen. Wouldn't such change be welcomed to Notification Center on the iPad? I say this, because in its current form, it's placed square in the middle of the screen no matter the orientation. In fact, it's sort of like an afterthought.

MountainLionCenter is the upcoming jailbreak tweak that plans to change this, placing it more in line with the way Notification Center works on OS X Mountain Lion. For more details, watch our full video walkthrough inside.

iPhone display glass maker Corning outs ultra-slim, flexible Willow Glass

Corning Inc. is one of rare United States-based suppliers providing domestically manufactured components for Apple's devices.

The New York-based company behind the display glass component on your iPhone made a name for itself when Apple's late co-founder Steve Jobs pressed their CEO Wendell Weeks not to be afraid of high-volume manufacturing.

Today, the company launched a brand new product, an ultra-slim, flexible glass component dubbed Willow Glass and we have a nice intro video right below...
