Facebook’s Project Spartan to Hit iOS Within the Next Month

Facebook went live with the media this morning from their Palo Alto headquarters to make good on Mark Zuckerberg's promise last week that his company would be making some "awesome" announcements. Though Skype-integrated video chat looks cool, iDB feels that the best has yet to come.

Remember that little Facebook endeavor we told you about a few weeks ago code-named Project Spartan? The HTML5-coded platform is nearing completion and could be available to the masses as early as the end of the month...

Nielsen: iPhone Sales Increasing in US, Blackberry on the Decline

In the latest research report from Nielsen, data from May suggests that Apple's iPhone iOS and Android OS are the only two mobile operating systems that are actually increasing in U.S. market share. Nielsen makes the point that smartphones are now the "majority of new cellphone purchases," and the iPhone is continuing to see increased adoption in the United States.

Following a May survey of U.S. mobile customers, it has been determined that Android and the iOS platform gained a percentage of smartphone market share, while other competitors like Blackberry actually fell in market share.

Popular IM Client ‘Verbs’ Adds Push Notifications and More

The iPhone was once described by Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs, as a 'revolutionary Internet communicator' and we can't really argue with that. Since Apple unleashed the App Store onto the iPhone and iPod touch owning public, the role of a mobile communicator has changed considerably.

Previously, the best way to get in touch with someone whilst away from your desk was to call them. Thing is, if you're anything like me, you hate talking on the phone. That's where SMS comes in, but those 140 characters ain't cheap, especially if you happen to reside in the United States.

IM, or Instant Messaging, uses the power of the internet to kick those pesky SMS charges into touch and, at least until iMessage arrives, presents the best way to send messages between iPhones...

How Much are iOS Users Worth to Apple?

Apple is on a profit run that most companies would die for. Last quarter, the company posted staggering earnings results led by the sales of their iDevice products. It's certainly no secret that Apple is onto something with their iPhones and iPads.

But it's not just the gadgets, Apple has built an entire ecosystem around these iOS products. An App Store, a music store, everything's a tap away for iOS users. Have you ever wondered how much money Apple makes off of these purchases?

iOS Proves Much More Secure than Android

You don't have to be around computers very long before you hear the word Symantec. The security company is responsible for the popular Norton AntiVirus software suite, among several other utilities.

Like the rest of the PC world, Norton is trying to stay relevant in wake of a huge industry swing towards mobile products. So the security firm recently did some research on the different ways that Android and iOS handle security methods. Guess who wins?

iOS 5’s Hidden Twitter Functionality Hints at More to Come

Just before Apple's big iOS 5 reveal at WWDC a few weeks ago, rumors began circulating that Apple was planning to integrate Twitter right into the system. At the time we didn't know whether the rumors were true or not, let alone how deeply integrated it would eventually turn out to be.

When Steve Jobs and his band of merry men took to the stage at WWDC, we finally saw what Apple had in store for us, but despite iOS 5 largely hitting the spot we couldn't help but feel let down by the fabled Twitter integration, at least in its current form...

Google Swiffy Will Convert Flash Files to iPhone-Friendly HTML 5

Google unveiled a new tool for developers today called Swiffy — a simple converter that takes .SWF Flash files and transforms them into iPhone-friendly HTML5 code. It's the latest experimental application to hit Google Labs, and while it works best with simple Flash animations, its results are rather impressive.

Anyone can use Swiffy by simply visiting swiffy.googlelabs.com. There you can upload an SWF file and quickly convert it into HTML5...

The iPhone is Not the Underdog

In our second installment of the, "What are they putting in the water at PCMag?" series, we take a look at an article titled, "Is the iPhone Now the Underdog?" by PCMag's Editor-in-Chief, Lance Ulanoff.

Sebastien grilled Mr. Ulanoff over his last article on the proposition of Apple selling unlocked iPhones in the United States. This time, we're going to take a look at Mr. PCMag's idea that Apple needs to make "drastic improvements" to the iPhone to "maintain market share and mindshare."

iPhone Top-Selling Handset on AT&T and Verizon

According to a recent study, after five months, the iPhone already dominates the Verizon network in the U.S. On AT&T, the numbers are even more impressive, with a 65% lead.

BITG Research surveyed 250 Verizon and AT&T stores across the United States over a period of three months and determined that the iPhone is the number one smartphone on both carriers.

Apple Looking to Launch iOS-Powered TV Set This Fall?

Though the Apple TV2 is doing much better than its predecessor, ATV2 sales are anything but spectacular compared to Apple's other products. The device has been labeled by Apple as "just a hobby," but there is new evidence suggesting that the Cupertino company may be starting to get serious about taking over our living rooms.

Daily Tech is reporting that they have heard on good authority that Apple is looking to replace the Apple TV line this fall with an entirely new product. Their source, a former Apple executive, is claiming that soon we will be able to walk into an Apple store, and walk out with a TV set...

Apple Patent Points to New Friend Matching Feature

Apple hasn't had much success with social networking in the past. Remember Ping, Apple's ill-fated attempt at bringing music fans and the artists they love closer together? No, probably not. It's still sitting there though, kinda hidden inside iTunes just waiting for someone to stumble upon it.

If a new patent filing by Apple is to be believed, it seems the smartphone, computer, and now tablet giant may be looking into the whole 'bringing people together' idea once more; this time by using your phone as a way to find like-minded people...

Leaked Screenshots of Facebook’s New Photo-Sharing App Surface

The website has received dozens of screenshots and documents from an unknown source that depict a new Facebook app running on an iPhone. What's more, the software looks like a portal for a new Instangram-like photo sharing service...
