Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 2 with RedSn0w

Apple just dropped iOS 5 Beta 2, and, of course, one of the first questions that comes to mind is: can we jailbreak it?

The answer came from Dev Team frontman MuscleNerd who confirmed that it is still possible to jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 2 using the latest version of RedSn0w, the same that was released a couple weeks ago to jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 1...

iOS 5 Beta 2 Now Live [Updated]

Apple has just released the second beta for iOS 5. Beta 2 is now available for download in Apple's developer channel.

iOS 5 Beta is a 740MB download and available for all Apple devices from the 3rd gen iPod touch and up.

Evidence for New iPod Touch Found in iOS 5 Beta

Apple's change in release cycle this year has resulted in the speculation that there will not be an iPod touch refresh this Fall. Because of the iPhone 5's postponed announcement, it was believed that Apple's typical music event in September would take a backseat to new iPhone hardware.

An iFans forum member has done some snooping in the iOS 5 beta and found references to a future generation iPod touch. Will we see an iPod touch 5G after all this Fall?

Evidence Surfaces in iOS 5 that Apple is Still Working on Maps App

I have to admit, after all the evidence we've seen over the last several months, I was a little surprised that we didn't see any kind of major improvements to the Map app in iOS 5. Apple has purchased multiple GPS software companies in the last few years, including PlaceBase and Poly9.

But even though there were no significant Map announcements at WWDC, there's still hope. Apple's developer's conference only gave us a "sneak peak"  at 10 items from a list of over 200 improvements, so it's very possible that we may still see Maps get a revamp this fall...

weeTranslate: Google Translate Widget for iOS 5 Notification Center

Yet another jailbreak widget for iOS 5 has surfaced. This time, Google Translate functionality can now be added to the Notification Center. Developed by the same person that made QuickComposer, weeTranslate lets you translate a word or phrase through Google Translate - all from the Notification Center.

For those of us that interact with multiple languages on a daily basis, this widget could prove invaluable.

iOS 5 to Include Even Deeper Twitter Integration, Letting You Tweet From Anywhere?

We already know that iOS 5 will bring deep Twitter integration to iDevices. So far, we've confirmed that iOS 5 will let you tweet pictures from the Photos app, your location from the Maps app, and a link from Safari or the YouTube application.

One thing we know it's not doing at the moment is letting you send a tweet from anywhere, without attaching an image, your location, or a link. Well folks, it seems that Apple is working on a way to integrate Twitter even more with iOS, by letting you tweet from anywhere...

Apple Planning On Allowing Third Party Widgets in iOS 5

An interesting tidbit has been discovered in Apple's recently awarded iPhone patent. It looks as though Apple will indeed allow for the development of third party widgets in iOS 5.

For the past few weeks, jailbreak developers have been creating widgets for the iOS 5 Notification Center because Apple has yet to introduce an approved method for developing and distributing third party widgets.

According to the above patent, Apple will eventually allow for the creation of third party widgets on their platform.

Bloomberg: New iPhone Coming in September, A5 Chip, 8 MP Camera

Hot off the heels of yesterday's rumor from BGR that pegged an August announcement for the next iPhone, Bloomberg has decided to enter the rumor mill and back up previous reports that put the next gen iPhone's release at a September date.

Among a September release, Bloomberg corroborates other reports that Apple's next iPhone will not, in fact, be a "radical" redesign of the iPhone 4, but instead a mere hardware boost.

QuickComposer Widget for iOS 5 Notification Center

Apple's new firmware won't be officially available for another few months, but that hasn't stopped the jailbreak community from experimenting with the beta release. We've seen several iOS 5 Notification Center widgets over the last few weeks, but there's always room for more.

The latest jailbreak tweak to surface for the new iOS is called QuickComposer. The widget allows you to access the composition screen of different applications with a single tap...

30% of iPhone Users Likely to Plump for iTunes Match, 76% for iCloud

Apple's iTunes Match service could be a hit after one analyst claimed the service could be utilized by around 30% of iPhone users.

The study carried out by RBC Capital Markets' Mike Abramsky asked iPhone users how likely they were to fork out the $24.99 subscription required to use Apple's iTunes Match service. The results point to 10% 'very likely' to sign up with a further 20% 'somewhat likely'.

Things get interesting when Abramsky points out that 30% of all iOS devices sold could bring in an estimated $1.5 billion of extra revenue for Apple...

Whether you're looking at your calendar in List, Day, or Month mode, you can simply rotate the orientation horizontally and you will get a weekly view of your calendar. From there, you can scroll left or right to go to past or future days...

HTML5 Tests Show Mobile Safari Much Faster in iOS 5

Mobile Safari has received some major updates in iOS 5. We've seen new features added like private browsing and Reading List. On top of that, the mobile browser now allows web apps to utilize the Nitro engine, which greatly improves the web app experience.

Multiple sites are reporting that Apple has also improved Mobile Safari's overall performance in the new firmware. We confirm the speculation by running an HTML5 speed test with an iPad on iOS 5. Just how fast is Apple's mobile browser?
