Manila lets you use 3D Touch or Haptic Touch to launch apps in folders

If your iPhone’s Home screen is chock-full of application icons, then you might use folders to help you organize them. On the other hand, having too many folders can quickly create the illusion of an application labyrinth that makes navigating your Home screen more confusing than it’s worth.

Those familiar with the circumstances described above just might take a liking to Manila, a new and free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer David Goldman that lets you launch apps from your folders with a Haptic Touch or 3D Touch gesture.

Jailbreakers can now customize iOS 13’s native dark mode with Noctis Neo

Jailbreakers have had access to dark mode for years, but Apple is just now implementing it out of the box with the launch of iOS 13. Unfortunately, native dark mode in iOS 13 isn’t quite as dark as some users would prefer, and that’s why iOS developer LaughingQuoll has released a new jailbreak tweak called Noctis Neo.

Noctis Neo, much like older iterations of Noctis, lets users enable and configure dark mode with or without custom color accents and tints. You’ll notice in some of the screenshot examples above that Noctis Neo can make iOS 13’s dark mode a truer black than it comes out of the box, but that’s not the only thing it can do.

Checkra1n public beta v0.9.2 incorporates bug fixes and ‘no substrate mode’

The checkra1n team silently updated the public beta of the brand-new checkra1n jailbreak tool to v0.9.2 Monday evening with a short list of improvements.

The latest update incorporates bug fixes and adds official support for 'no substrate mode' for troubleshooting jailbreak extensions in the event of crashes or respring loops. The full change log for checkra1n v0.9.2 is as follows:

Re-enable your iPhone’s 3D Touch hardware in iOS 13 with Sunflower

One of the most controversial changes in iOS 13 was the removal of 3D Touch functionality in place of a new feature Apple calls ‘Haptic Touch.’ While this might’ve made sense for handsets that lack 3D Touch-equipped displays, Apple purposefully disabled this hardware with the release of iOS 13 such that even devices with 3D Touch-equipped displays would utilize Haptic Touch instead.

If you were among those disappointed by Apple’s decision to nix 3D Touch, then you’ll be happy to know that a newly released jailbreak tweak for iOS 13 dubbed Sunflower by iOS developer LaughingQuoll can help you get your precious pressure-based 3D Touch gestures back.

Checkra1n v0.9 beta now available for public testing

Following several weeks’ worth of electrifying teasers, hacker Luca Todesco officially unveiled checkra1n, a brand-new jailbreak utility based on @axi0mX’s new checkm8 bootrom exploit for A5-A11 devices. Todesco presented the new jailbreak after taking the stage at POC2019 in Seoul, South Korea on Friday, just as he said he would, but subtle issues delayed the original launch expectation by a few days.

Checkra1n is a precedent-setting jailbreak the likes of which we have not seen since limera1n on the A4-equipped iPhone 4. Checkra1n isn’t untethered like limera1n was, but it utilizes an exploit that can’t be patched by Apple with any traditional software update, which commendably means that impacted handsets can be jailbroken for life regardless of software version.

Last-minute issues delaying checkra1n launch, but release still imminent

Hacker and checkra1n team member Luca Todesco took the stage at POC2019 in Seoul, South Korea early Friday morning to talk about checkra1n, an upcoming checkm8 exploit-based jailbreak tool that would work with A5-A11 devices. But perhaps more intriguingly, sporadic teasers indicated that the tool would be released sometime after his presentation there.

The last official update we have from Todesco himself is that the checkra1n release was delayed longer than expected following the presentation, but it was still supposed to launch sometime today. With the day now over and still no official checkra1n jailbreak launch at the time of this writing, you wouldn’t be alone if you were twiddling your thumbs and wondering what was happening.

Luca Todesco talks at POC2019, reveals checkra1n team identities and plans

If you’ve been following the development of the checkm8-based checkra1n jailbreak all this time, then you’ll be excited to hear that one of the project’s most vocal developers, Luca Todesco, took the stage at POC2019 in Seoul, South Korea to discuss the jailbreak and reveal particularly captivating details about the checkra1n team’s members, long-term plans, and more.

Todesco entitled his Keynote presentation “The One Weird Trick SecureROM Hates,” and from what we can gather, the checkra1n team is comprised of the following members, many of which might be familiar to veteran jailbreakers:

Sileo v1.5.2 now available with iOS 13-centric improvements

Despite the recent and controversial announcement that Sileo’s development had been ‘suspended until further notice,’ project lead developer CoolStar appears to have since overturned that declaration. Thursday evening, CoolStar announced a second update to the alternative package manager since that announcement, formally bringing it up to version 1.5.2.

Surprisingly, the official @GetSileo Twitter page didn’t make mention of the latest Sileo update, but it’s worth noting that CoolStar posted a memo about it not too long ago in his official Discord channel:
