Google Web App for iOS Gets Better

I have such a conflicting relationship with Google. On one hand, I despise the search giant for being what I believe to be the most evil company in Silicon Valley. On the other hand, I love their idea that the web should be accessable via the browser, not through an application like Apple believes.

This being said, Google updated the way their mobile website looks on iOS devices. If you go to m.google.com from your iPhone, you will now be presented with a landing page similar to the one above. You can obviously search like you normally do, but you can also easily search for restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and more near places you. I gave it a quick try and I have to admit that it is absolutely brilliant...

QuickGoogle Jailbreak Tweak Lets You Search Google from Anywhere

I can't believe that I'm just now finding a tweak that lets you search Google from anywhere. There's another tweak out there that does something similar, right?

If not, I'm shocked that it took this long to get a tweak like QuickGoogle on the Cydia store, but the good news is that it's here, and it works marvelously.

New in iOS 5: Suggested Routes in Maps

If you go to the Google Maps website and look for directions to a specific location, chances are there are different ways to get there. This is what Google calls "suggested routes." The website lets you easily see those alternate routes and you can select the one that fits you best.

"Suggested Routes" is a new feature in the Maps app of iOS 5. Just like Google Maps on the web, the app will offer you suggested routes if available...

Up until today, if you looked for Apple's billion dollar data center in North Carolina on Google Maps, you could not find it. The location was there but it just showed some farmlands and nothing much around.

Things have changed. As of now, you can see Apple's North Carolina data center on Google Maps, and it seems to be one of the latest satellite images of it. So why didn't this data center show up on Google Maps before?

Google Just Renewed its Maps and Search Partnership With Apple

Because Apple has reportedly been working on its own mapping software, there were expectations that the company might drop Google Maps in the upcoming iOS 5 to be unveiled next week at the WWDC in favor of its own solution.

US Government Drops BlackBerry to Adopt iOS Devices

United States federal agencies are ditching BlackBerry devices in favor of those powered by iOS, according to a new feature in the Washington Post. Dubbed 'federal government 2.0', the change will see the U.S. government upgraded and the introduction of consumer technologies like the iPhone, iPad, and Google's Gmail service.

The demand for these technologies has not only come from agency directors and senior officials – who want to use iPads, Android phones and web-based email at the office like they do at home – but also from frontline workers who believe consumer technologies can set them free of the office for mobile working arrangements...

Apple will Continue to use Google Maps in iOS 5

We've reported on several occasions that Apple has been looking to revamp its Maps application in iOS. After the purchase of PlaceBase and multiple suspicious job listings, we certainly have had reason to believe that Apple has some major changes in mind for the Maps app.

The big question has been (with Apple and Google quickly becoming competitors across multiple markets): will Google continue to have a hand in the Maps application?

There has been a huge increase in iCloud gossip over the last month or so. The music industry has been a fairly leaky faucet throughout these final weeks of Apple's rumored negotiations. We've now heard that 3 out of the 4 major music labels have agreed to Apple's iCloud conditions.

Though these extended talks have kept the Cupertino company from being the first to market, it's reported that their choice of acquiring the proper music licenses could take them to the top. If that's the case, then what could be so special about Apple's cloud service?

Google Unveils Google Wallet, Apple Sits and Learns

Earlier today, Google unveiled yet another product: Google Wallet. Very simply said, Google Wallet is the result of a partnership that will allow Google to have NFC (Near Field Communication) built in most of upcoming Android devices.

For those of you who don't know, NFC is a wireless technology, which among other usages, will allow you to replace your credit card with your smartphone. Sounds awesome, doesn't it?

Google Maps Now on Your Mobile Browser

Google is now allowing you to use Google Maps directly from the browser, without having to use an application. Simply point your iPhone to maps.google.com and after allowing the web app to use your current location, Google Maps will locate you and offer various options that are already available through the native app.

The app works pretty well, although it took me a minute or so to really figure out how everything worked, especially how to get directions and switch back and forth with the maps. Maybe that's just me though. It's still early and my brain probably isn't at 100%.

This being said, the conspiracy theorist in me thinks there is a reason why Google is releasing Google Maps for the browser at this time...

Apple Cloud Licensing Deals Almost Done

Several online news outlets have been reporting in the last 12 hours that Apple has signed a deal with EMI Music, the fourth largest music group in the world. Apple definitely seems to be putting the final pieces in place for its cloud-based music service.

Reports surfaced last month that Apple had completed their cloud service, and had reached a licensing agreement with Warner Music Group. If the above information holds true, that just leaves Sony and Universal left, which sources say could sign on as early as next week...
