Substrate Safe Mode updated with iOS 7, ARM64 support

Good news this morning for jailbreakers. Following the release of the new Mobile Substrate for iOS 7, Saurik has updated Substrate Safe Mode to be more friendly with the newer firmware and newer A7 devices like the iPhone 5s and iPad Air.

For those unfamiliar with it, Safe Mode is what prevents your device from entering a permanent crash cycle by giving you a chance to uninstall problematic packages. And until now, it wasn't behaving nicely with the Mobile Substrate update...

The best Winterboard themes for iOS 7

How to customize the Lock screen on iOS 7

One of the biggest advantages to jailbreaking an iOS device is the ability to customize nearly any aspect of the user interface. In fact, being able to customize or theme is one of the primary reasons that I jailbroke my first-generation iPod touch over six years ago—and I've been doing so ever since.

An important and sometimes overlooked element is the Lock screen. It can be a lot of fun to customize your Lock screen, and the results often look beautiful, so look inside for a few tips on how to perfect yours…

BiteSMS 8.0 beta 7 is out with support for iPhone 5s

Great news for biteSMS fans with late-model iPhones this morning. BiteSMS 8.0 beta 7 has been released to the public, and in addition to a handful of bug fixes and user interface improvements, the update brings about support for the iPhone 5s.

The beta has actually been out for almost two weeks now, but due to complications with the 64-bit A7 processor, it has thus far been limited to older devices. That changes today though, and now 5s users can finally enjoy the biteSMS app on iOS 7...

Space Blueberry is a beautiful new theme for iOS 7

iOS 7 was the most controversial software update that Apple has ever released, primarily because it ushered in an all-new design that replaced detail and so-called "skeuomorphism" with flatness and simplicity. Fortunately, for those that don't favor the stock look, the arrival of the evasi0n7 jailbreak opens the doors to a myriad of new themes to choose from. Space Blueberry, for instance, is a beautiful new icon set for the iPhone and iPod touch. Take a closer look for yourself ahead…

CyDelete for iOS 7 allows Cydia apps to be deleted from the Home screen

When you tap and hold on an app icon on your Home screen, wiggle mode is enabled and applications can then be deleted. That functionality doesn't extend to jailbreak tweaks, however, meaning that you have to go into Cydia to uninstall packages by default. To solve that minor inconvenience, developer Ryan Burke has gone ahead and updated CyDelete — originally by Dustin Howett — with both iOS 7 and A7 support…

Swipey adds quick launcher for apps to the Lock screen on iOS 7

A much-anticipated release of Cydia Substrate for iOS 7 has prompted a number of developers to release or update jailbreak tweaks, and Swipey is among the latest to make the list. The new tweak, the work of iOS developer Tyler Nettleton, extends the functionality of the Lock screen with a quick launcher for accessing your favorite apps. A simple swipe to the right provides you with access to Camera, Instagram, Messages, Twitter or whichever apps you assign to appear…

Having issues with Cydia Substrate? Try this

I woke up this morning to a pleasant surprise: Mobile Substrate had been updated to support iOS 7 on ARM64 CPUs, making it compatible with all of the latest Apple devices like the iPhone 5s, iPad Air, and iPad mini with Retina Display. As you can imagine, I rushed to the office without even brushing my teeth (I know, gross) and installed the new Cydia Substrate package that appeared on Cydia.

Unfortunately for me, none of the tweaks and apps that I had installed began to work after Cydia Substrate was updated. I think it may, and I'm just grasping at straws here, have to do with the fact that I was impatient, and already had a bunch of stuff installed that didn't work in the first place. To fix this issue, I took a fairly logical approach; I completely uninstalled Substrate and reinstalled it from scratch. Have a look inside for more details.

Mobile Substrate updated with support for iOS 7 and ARM64

Great news for jailbroken folks on newer iPhones and iPads this morning. Saurik just announced that a new version of Mobile Substrate is out with support for iOS 7 and ARM64. The update will allow developers to update their jailbreak tweaks to work with the newer hardware and software.

This is a huge deal because up until now, those of us on devices like the iPhone 5s or the Retina iPad mini have been extremely limited as to what we could do after jailbreaking—I don't currently have a single tweak installed. But now that this new Substrate is out, that should begin to change...

Updated Evasi0n 7.x Untether package brings Evasi0n 1.0.1 updates to all users

A few days ago the Evad3rs released version 1.0.1 of their Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool. The update's big feature was its removal of the controversial TaiG, which we explained in this post.

Previously, if you wished to take advantage of the latest 1.0.1 update, you had to re-jailbreak your device with Evasi0n 1.0.1. Obviously, that's quite inconvenient for most users, so the Evaders have released an easy to use Cydia package update to facilitate the changes and make them available to those who jailbroke their devices with Evasi0n 1.0.0.

The package is called evasi0n 7.x Untether, and its 0.2 update is available right now via Cydia's default Telesphoreo repo. Check inside for more details.

Five iOS 7 jailbreak tweaks to look at this weekend

While much of the emphasis has been placed on the arrival of popular jailbreak tweaks such as BiteSMS and Zeppelin, a number of lesser-known iOS extensions have also been released or updated for iOS 7 in recent days. Before you get too excited, remember that these tweaks are incompatible with the iPhone 5s, iPad Air and second-generation iPad mini until a MobileSubstrate update arrives. But if you are still rocking an older iOS device, read ahead for a quick look at five tweaks to explore this weekend…
