How to add 3D Touch gestures to Cydia

I've always thought that Cydia would heavily benefit from 3D Touch gestures, and surprisingly, it's taken up until today for us to finally get them. A new tweak called Tactful landed on Cydia earlier today, and it not only enables 3D Touch shortcuts on the Home screen Cydia icon, but it also allows you to peek into Cydia packages within the app itself.

Cydia Substrate updated to version 0.9.6100

Cydia Substrate received a new update, which comes a few hours after the Pangu tool update for jailbreaking iOS 9 on Mac.

This new version of Cydia Substrate brings the package to version 0.9.6100, and it includes preventative measures to stop would-be problem-causing jailbreak extensions.

Cydia Impactor, the tool that lets you unjailbreak your iPhone, is coming for iOS 9

Here's a piece of news that kind of flew under the radar during saurik's update of Cydia Installer earlier today—he's apparently working on  providing a version of Cydia Impactor for iOS 9 firmware, too.

Cydia Impactor was the groundbreaking jailbreak release that allowed iOS 8 jailbreakers to perform an erase and restore on their devices without necessitating a software update. It basically allowed you to use iOS' Erase all Content & Settings feature in such a way that it worked with jailbroken devices.

That tool was groundbreaking, because jailbroken devices, up until that point, were never capable of using this built in iOS feature. Cydia Impactor adds significant peace of mind to jailbreakers, because if something goes wrong with a jailbroken device, it's possible to restore on the same firmware, and re-jailbreak.

In the past, jailbroken iPhones that needed to be restored were forced to update to the latest firmware, which, more times than not, would render the device un-jailbreakable. As you might have noticed, Cydia Impactor doesn't currently work for iOS 9, but saurik is working hard in an effort to fix that.

Cydia Installer updated to version 1.1.25

Saurik has pushed an update to Cydia Installer, bringing it to version 1.1.25. This latest version of Cydia Installer moves jailbreak content found in /Applications to the user partition from the System partition. It's recommended that all users update as soon as possible.

Update: Cydia Installer was updated to version 1.1.26 shortly after being updated to 1.1.25. The latest version doesn't show any release notes, but we assume it is just a minor update to the more notable 1.1.25 version.

You can now purchase iOS 9-ready tweaks in Cydia

Saurik has "flipped the switch" in Cydia to allow purchases for device and OS-compatible jailbreak apps and tweaks for iOS 9. That means that any tweak that has been properly updated for iOS 9 can now be enabled for sale by Cydia developers.

While this is a definite first step to being able to have a normal Cydia experience with the iOS 9 jailbreak, developers will still have to update packages and enable their tweaks and apps for sale. In other words, you may find a handful of tweaks out there that can be properly purchased and downloaded, but it's still going to take a while for developers to properly catch up.

Cydia Substrate has been updated for iOS 9, but many jailbreak tweaks still won’t work yet

It looks like saurik must have been in the know about the iOS 9 jailbreak, because it comes updated to work with iOS 9 post-jailbreak. As saurik states in the Cydia Substrate change log, version 0.9.6000 brings about significant changes to the package to make it play nice with iOS 9.

The fact that Cydia has been updated immediately is great news for jailbreakers. It means that you don't have to jump through any hoops in order to get Cydia working on your device right after the jailbreak.

With that established, some of you may still deem it best to hold off for a while. That's because there simply aren't many tweaks available that work with iOS 9 yet...

Here’s a video walkthrough of the latest iMods beta, an upcoming Cydia alternative

iMods has posted a new video walkthrough of its long-in-the-works app, and it's made lots of progress. Unlike the Extensify app that we previewed last week, iMods is a true Cydia alternative that aims to provide users with a prettier UI, ratings, video previews, and more.

The video is impressive. It shows how tweaks are installed, navigating the various sections of the app, and more. Of course a video can only go so far. Trying iMods out for ourselves will be the ultimate test as to whether or not this is a viable Cydia alternative, but I have to admit that it looks good based on the video preview.

How to add ratings to Cydia tweaks

Cydia Ratings is an awesome new beta jailbreak tweak that brings an App Store-inspired ratings interface to all of your favorite Cydia tweaks.

Ever since Cydia debuted, there's never been a real way to go about rating the tweaks housed inside. Users are thus made to either take the plunge on a tweak without knowing how good it is, or wait for a review from iDB. Now, with Cydia Reviews, users will have a legitimate way of reviewing and reading reviews for all of the tweaks available on Cydia.

New beta tweak helps clean up Cydia package descriptions

Well-known developer Majd Alfhaily just released a new beta tweak on his personal repo called Cyte. The tweak aims to clean up the descriptions for packages present in Cydia to make them look more consistent and appealing.

In my opinion, this is one of the biggest tweak opportunities present since Cydia opened up to Cydia Substrate extensions. A more consistent and cleaner looking Cydia when it comes to package depictions, would go a long way towards improving the experience.

How to browse Cydia in full screen mode

As you've no doubt noticed, a lot of the newer jailbreak tweaks are Cydia-centric tweaks designed around improving the experience while browsing Cydia. One such example of this is a tweak we talked about recently called TranslucentCydia.

The latest such tweak—nobar+—is a release that allows you to browse Cydia in full screen mode. It does this by automatically hiding the status bar when Cydia is launched.

How to add translucence to the Cydia install screen

After Cydia was updated to version 1.1.19, the floodgates were opened to all sorts of tweaks to modify the Cydia experience. Some tweaks added new functionality to Cydia, such as SwipeForMore, one of my favorite new releases to touch down in some time. Other tweaks, like TranslucentCydia, take a different approach and simply aim to change the look of Cydia.
