New in iOS 7: Clock app icon now displays real time

As we continue to dig through all of the new features and UI changes in iOS 7, we've come across a minor, yet interesting, detail. It looks like the Clock app icon now displays the correct time, and has an animated second hand.

At least, in all of Apple's screen shots it shows the correct time. Notice in the image above how the time on the Clock icon matches up with the time in the status bar. But I can't for the life of me get it to work on my iPhone 4S...

PadClock makes it easier to set alarms on iPhone

I can't be the only one that despises the date picker found within the Clock app's alarm settings. I find that it requires too much thought to set an alarm, especially in the wee hours of the morning when you can just barely open your eyes.

PadClock is a new jailbreak tweak that fixes the cumbersome setup found inside the stock alarm clock. It does so by replacing the original date picker with an easy to use number pad.

How to add an animated clock to Notification Center

Flip Clock is a jailbreak widget that allows you to add an animated flipping clock to Notification Center. The tweak features a nice helping of options to configure the look and feel of the clock to your personal liking.

Once Flip Clock is installed, simply enable it in Settings > Notifications in order to display it within your Notification Center. The tweak also works with packages like LockInfo for placing the widget in more places than just the Notification Center panel. Check out a few more tidbits about this great looking jailbreak tweak after the break...

How to add a stopwatch to the iPhone’s Lock screen

Isn't it annoying when your iPhone goes to the Lock screen while using its built-in stopwatch? Perhaps that's never happened to you before, because you simply don't use the stopwatch. But if it has happened, you'll be ecstatic to learn about a brand new jailbreak tweak that solves this issue.

Stoppur — a jailbreak tweak that allows you to place a stopwatch right on the Lock screen — is available on Cydia's BigBoss repo for $0.99. Is it worth it for stopwatch users? Take a look inside for more insight.

A beautiful verbal clock for your Lock screen

Continuing our Lock screen modding series, we take a closer look at an elegant verbal clock. Having an affinity for well-designed typographical imagery, this verbal clock is a perfect addition for my iPhone. A sleek black, gray, and white interface, I am impressed with the elegance of its minimalism. Follow us beyond the fold to find out how to set your iPhone up similarly...

Binary Clock replaces your iPhone’s stock Lock screen clock

Binary Clock is a new jailbreak tweak that outright replaces the stock Lock screen clock on an iOS device. The tweak features over a dozen different themes of various colors or shapes, along with the ability to hide or show the Lock screen date string.

Obviously, you'll need to know how to tell time in binary, unless your plan is to simply stare aimlessly at the pretty flashing lights. Don't worry, inside I'll not only showcase this awesome tweak, but I'll also teach you how to tell time in binary in less than a couple of minutes.

In time for holidays, Swiss watch maker Mondaine welcomes iPad users to the club

A design Apple licensed for the iOS 6 Clock app from the Swiss Federal Railways for an alleged $20 million was also licensed 26 years ago to Switzerland-based watch maker Mondaine. In fact, Mondaine Group CEO André Bernheim had at one point considered legal action against the iPhone maker before Cupertino relented and agreed to sign a licensing agreement. The clock face design is truly timeless: it's withstood the test of time and is still being used in SBB’s stations. Now, in a conveniently timed PR move, Mondaine issues a statement reminding Apple users it's the official licensee of the design for wrist watches and wall clocks, eventually hoping some fans would put Mondaine products on their holiday shopping list...

Apple paid $20 million for iPad Clock design rights

Remember legal brouhaha involving Apple and iPad Clock app in iOS 6 on one side and Swiss Federal Railways, which holds rights to the iconic timepiece design, on the other? We praised Apple for doing the right thing after it was reported the intellectual property dispute ended by Apple agreeing to license the SBB station clock design for use on iPads and iPhones. Neither Apple nor the Swiss Federal Railways SBB commented on financial terms of the licensing agreement at the time, but sources now claim Apple paid to the tune of $20 million, or 16.5 million euros, for design IP...

Apple does the right thing, licenses the iPad clock design from Swiss Railway

After Apple was accused of lifting the iPad clock design from the timeless railway clock created by designer Hans Hilfiker for the Swiss Federal Railway service (SBB), and following a round of negotiations between Apple and the railway service, the Cupertino, California headquartered gadget maker has agreed to license the iconic timepiece look for the new clock app in iOS 6. The information has been confirmed officially by the SBB. Good move Apple, good move...

Swiss Federal Railways to meet with Apple to talk iPad clock design

That beautiful clock design in Apple's new iPad Clock app in iOS 6 has evidently been copied from the Swiss Federal Railway service as they are the sole owner of the trademark and copyright of the railway clock. The Swiss firm, as previously reported, got in contact with Apple to talk the trademark dispute. According to a new report, its lawyers might be looking to eventually strike a licensing agreement of sorts with the Cupertino-based iPhone maker...

Swiss Federal Railways says Apple copied its iconic clock in iOS 6

The latest iteration of Apple's mobile OS, iOS 6, has barely been out for 24 hours, but it's already causing quite a commotion. First, people seem to be really upset over the new Maps application. And now this.

According to a new report, Switzerland's Schweizerische Bundesbahnen, or the Swiss Federal Railway service, is accusing Apple of using their iconic clock in the new iPad Clock app in iOS 6 without permission...

LiveClock tweak updated with iOS 5 support

As most of you know, LiveClock has been around the jailbreak scene for quite some time. The tweak replaces the Clock app's icon with an animated version that reflects the current time.

But over the years, LiveClock has gotten lost in the couch cushions of Cydia. Ignored by its developer, the package had not seen an update since 2010. Until yesterday, that is...
