Facebook launches redesigned Messenger app

In line with reports from early October, Facebook has launched a redesigned Messenger app for iPhone users this afternoon. The new design matches the aesthetics of iOS 7, and looks very similar to the updated Messenger app launched for Android a few weeks ago.

In addition to the makeover, today's update also brings about some new features. In the new app, users will be able to see which friends are using Messenger, as well as have the ability to message non-Facebook friends from within the app as long as they have their number...

Jawbone introduces new UP24 fitness band with Bluetooth 4.0

Big news from Jawbone today. The accessory-maker behind the popular line of Jambox speakers introduced a new version of its UP fitness-tracking band, the UP24, as well as a big 3.0 update for its UP iOS app.

While the new UP looks very similar to its predecessor, it does feature one significant hardware change: it now uses Bluetooth 4.0 to connect to your iOS device, instead of forcing you to plug into your audio port...

Ahead of its big PlayStation 4 launch later this week, Sony has released a new companion app for the console, aptly named 'PlayStation App.' Sony says that the app will allow you to "take your PlayStation experience with you on your mobile device."

Ultravisual review: Instagram for artistic photography

If there is one thing I’ve learned since I started writing for iDB it is that there are a few readers of this site that hate Instagram. Square pictures and filter overlays are like poison to some iPhone photography hobbyists.

Ultravisual is a social networking photography app that lets you upload and edit photos and videos without the limitations of the square aspect ratio. Plus, you can follow other users who have an eye for visually interesting images and curate your own category of media to share with others…

Sorcery! 2 review: the epic adventure continues

As an avid role-playing game fan, I am always up for a literary adventure. Whether it is a choose-your-own story or a tabletop group game base on the 20-sided die mechanics, I get a twinkle in my eye when someone says “RPG.”

Steve Jackson is a well-known author of gamebooks from the mid 1980s. His series Sorcery! was a big hit and the first adventure in the series was turned into a fantastic iOS game back in May. Today, the same company that developed Steve Jackson’s Sorcery! has launched a follow up game based on the second series in the original book. Sorcery! 2 follows the adventurer into “Khare: Cityport of Traps”...

2K Sports releases NBA 2K14 companion app ‘MyNBA2K14’

It seems like companion smartphone and tablet apps are becoming more and more popular with big-name console developers these days. We saw one from Rockstar back in September for GTA V, and now we have another from 2K Sports.

The New York-based development studio released a new app this week for the iPhone and iPad called MyNBA2K14. And as the name implies, it's a companion app for NBA 2K14, the popular basketball game  that was released earlier this year...

Apps of the week: Tiny Death Star, Algebra Touch, TNR-e-US, and more…

This week was pretty big in terms of new games in the App Store. In fact the past couple of weeks have been very game heavy. You won’t hear me complaining. Games are my favorite kind of apps.

If you are a secret (or open) geek, want to relearn algebra, or just want to make pretty pictures, we have a list of apps and games to keep you busy this weekend…

Geeks rejoice, Stargate SG-1: Unleashed Ep 2 is now available

I’m pretty sure that all of the big wigs in the movie and television industry got together recently and decided to launch games for all of the geeks this week. This week saw the launch of Star Wars: Tiny Death Star, Sorcery! 2, and Lego Lord of the Rings. Those aren’t the only geek culture references, but they are big ones.

Stargate SG-1: Unleashed Ep 2 also launched in the App Store this week. Now, we can play along with all of our favorite sci-fi and fantasy characters in one day. Too bad Star Trek didn’t launch an app today, that would have really brought it full circle…

Zombie! Zombie! Zombie! HD review: match-three zombie killing gets real

What could be better than combining the casual simplicity of match-three puzzle gaming with action-packed shoot-em-up fun? I love matching games and I love zombies. How can those two worlds possibly collide?

Big Fish Games has figured out a way with Zombie! Zombie! Zombie! HD for the iPad. Now, you can shoot your way through a horde of undead by matching the brain eaters to their counterparts…
