I saw a really interesting app for my Mac the other day that I'd love to use. It looks cool and does useful things. What stopped me in my tracks, however, is that the developer priced the app as an annual subscription. Subscriptions for apps that don't need subscriptions have become so common that at this point, I practically consider it a selling point when a dev charges a one-time fee for a perpetual license.

Abode announced Thursday that its Iota DIY smart security system is finally HomeKit compatible. HomeKit is available as an update to the Iota system, enabling Iota users to control the system using the Apple Home app on the iPhone, and Siri on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and HomePod.

Faced with an average user review rating of 2.3 out of 5 stars for its Photoshop for iPad app on Apple's App Store, creative software maker Adobe has now admitted that it's indeed failed to properly distinguish between “real” and “full” Photoshop experience on the Apple tablet.

It's been a year since Adobe first previewed a version of Photoshop running on an iPad at its Adobe MAX conference in Los Angeles, with a promise to release the app sometime in 2019. Now the software is available for download from the App Store. It's a free download, though unlocking and using it requires an active Creative Cloud subscription.
