Atari releases official Pong game for iOS

Atari's Pong video game is arguably one of the most recognizable titles of all time. It first debuted as an arcade game back in 1972, and was later ported to home consoles. And since then, it's been emulated and copied countless times.

Well yesterday, in light of the game's 40-year anniversary, Atari released a new version of the timeless classic for iOS called Pong World. And with characters like Chompers and Sir Bouncelot, this isn't your average 2D tennis match...

If you've played Angry Birds Star Wars through and are yearning for more, check out the first content update, now available for download. Expanding on the initial levels on planet Tatooine and the Death Star, this content update contains new levels set on the icy planet of Hoth. Another surprise: Pink Bird debuts as Princess Leia. Also, looks like there are some AT-AT walkers to take down and pigtroopers to fight, too...

If you're fond of retro gaming, keep your eyes peeled for Vectrex Regeneration this week on the App Store. This universal iPhone and iPad game strives to emulate the popular Vectrex game console that famously made waves in the early '80s. Developer RantMedia Games announced on Twitter yesterday that Vectrex Regeneration should land on the App Store “in just three days”. A teaser seen above depicts gameplay that promises to emulate the original console, along with an interesting 3D interface to spice things up a bit...

A violent iOS game with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak starring as a character has hit the App Store. Vengeance: Woz With A Coz is now available for your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad for just 99 cents a pop. The addictive 8-bit platformer puts you in the shoes of Steve Wozniak or Danny Trejo. The Woz himself wrote the back story which involves his wife, J-Woz, being kidnapped during their evening together.

You're tasked with saving her, which involves defeating various bosses, collecting bonuses and blasting your way through Fusion City using a bunch of different weapons. A tie-in to Trejo's upcoming movie, "Vengeance", coming in early 2013, the game features Baby Bash, Rashad Evans and other celebrities. Go past the break for more info and screenies...

ThinkGeek discounts iCade, iCade 8-Bitty and more for Black Friday

Here at iDB, we're big fans of the iCade controller line. Both the iCade arcade cabinet and the 8-Bitty gamepad have a fun, retro look to them, and they support more iOS titles than any other controller.

So as you can imagine, we were pretty excited when we found out that ThinkGeek was going to be discounting the two accessories, along with several other items, as part of its major Black Friday sale....

Last month, Rockstar announced that in celebration of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City's 10 years, it was going to be releasing a special anniversary edition of the title on iOS and Android sometime this fall.

After filing for bankruptcy in 2010, the one-time video rental giant has struggled to make any sort of comeback in a market now dominated by digital services like Netflix and iTunes. And apparently, it's running out of ideas, because it just released an iPad magazine...

Social gaming platform OpenFeint shutting down

It appears that OpenFeint, one of the first multiplayer gaming platforms for iOS, will be shutting down next month. The service was acquired by Japanese internet media company Gree in 2011 for $104 million. And last week, Gree announced that it would be shutting it down.

Even worse, the firm has only given developers a month's notice to migrate away from OpenFeint. As of December 14th, the service will go offline, and any game or application still using it will either need to be updated, or will suffer from severely crippled online components...

Apple allegedly asks devs to remove the word ‘memory’ from app names

Yes, you read that right. German puzzle and board game maker Ravensburger has apparently decided any iOS app with the word "memory" in its title should be banished from the App Store. The reason? Ravensburger is behind "Memory", a wildly popular puzzle game. While 91 percent of Germans are familiar with it, the game also enjoys international visibility and Ravensburger claims to hold a trademark on the term in over 40 countries. Apple has responded to the pressure and reportedly began emailing select developers to remove the word 'memory' from app names...

iHelicopters release a new iDevice-controlled toy: the iUFO

iHelicopters, the makers of iPhone-controlled vehicles are on a roll again. After creating a lineup of iPhone-controlled helicopters, RC cars and the rocket-launching Cobra copter, their latest offering is the iUFO. As the name suggests, it's a flying device that resembles an unidentified flying object. Its rotor system is maneuverable via your iPhone, iPad or iPod using a free app that talks to the unit via the transmitter which plugs in the headphone jack .

Its spherical design is aimed at protecting the rotors from hitting nearby objects and breaking. The manufacturer says the system even allows iUFOs to roll over the ground without crashing the rotors and says you don't have to worry about crashing the unit against the walls or ceiling...
