The Room Three hits the App Store

Following the success developer Fireproof Games has seen with The Room and The Room Two, it's now posted the third installment in the series to the App Store. Following the established naming convention, the game is aptly titled The Room Three and priced at $4.99 a pop.

For those who haven't played Fireproof's BAFTA award winning Room games yet, the physics-based puzzle series challenges you to navigate the trials devices located on a deserted island by rotating, zooming and examining dozens of artifacts in order to discover their hidden secrets.

Activision Blizzard is buying Candy Crush Saga maker King Digital for $5.9 billion

Renowned games publisher Activision Blizzard is purchasing King Digital, the maker of the popular Candy Crush Saga videogame series, in a transaction valued at a whooping $5.9 billion, the two companies announced Tuesday.

Activision, best-known for the World of Warcraft, Diablo and Call of Duty videogame series, said ABS Partners, a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, will acquire all of the outstanding shares of King for $18 in cash per share, for a total equity value of $5.9 billion.

tvOS App Store is conveniently flagging gamepad-enabled apps

Unlike the regular App Store for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad application, a brand new tvOS App Store for Apple's latest fourth-generation Apple TV makes it easy to distinguish at-a-glance between games that offer support for 'Made for iOS' (MFi) gamepads and game controllers and those that don't.

As first observed by AppleInsider over the weekend, not only does the device's App Store storefront app clearly states whether or not a game supports dedicated MFi game controllers, but compatible controllers can be used to navigate across the entirety of tvOS.

I've been playing Super Mario World on my Apple TV, and I absolutely love it. I'm able to do this by loading an emulator called Provenance on my Apple TV. You won't find Provenance in the App Store, but Apple has given us the ability to sideload apps ourselves, and Provenance is one such app that can be sideloaded.

In this tutorial, I'll show you how to sideload Provenance, and how to start playing old Nintendo and Sega Classics on your Apple TV, including the NES, SNES, GBA, Genesis, Game Gear, and more. If you like classic games, then you simply don't want to miss this.

EDGE Extended is free for a limited time

Remember Edge, a puzzle game developed by Mobigame? Originally released in the App Store in December 2008, it was one of the best looking, most addictive and innovative games available on the iPhone at the time.

The highly popular title was followed by the official sequel, called Edge Extended, which made its App Store debut in August 2011. Edge Extended has gone free briefly just once since its inception and now Mobigame has discounted the game to zero bucks for a limited time to celebrate the launch of the new Apple TV.

Minimal puzzler ‘rop’ goes free as Apple’s App of the Week

Heads up gamers, Apple has just named MildMania's 'rop' its App of the Week for this week. This means that from now through next Thursday, you can pick up the popular puzzler for free for both iPhone and iPad, a $1 savings over its usual price.

For those who haven't played it, rop is described as a mind-bending, minimal puzzler with nearly 200 beautiful levels. In each of those levels, you must rearrange the different pieces of rope on a hexagonal grid to match the shape that you are given.

Nintendo announces Miitomo, its first smartphone game

As expected, Nintendo has announced its first app for mobile devices. Entitled Miitomo, the free to play game is based in the Mii universe, and will be released next spring.

According to a Wall Street Journal live blog, Miitomo will allow users to design their own Miis, virtual avatars, which first appeared on the original Wii console. Nintendo has characterized Miitomo as a "Friendly Conversation Starter". By asking and answering questions, gamers will be able to find out unknown aspects about friends along with things that you share in common.

Brain-racking puzzler ‘Please, Don’t Touch Anything’ makes its App Store debut

UK-based iPhone developer and publisher BulkyPix today released a perplexing new game in the App Store, created in partnership with Four Quarters. Please, Don't Touch Anything, as it's aptly named, is a cryptic, brain-racking puzzler about bathroom breaks, screwdrivers and nuclear explosions. Yup, you read that right.

Featuring more than two dozen levels, retro pixel art, atmospheric chip tune soundtrack, touch-optimized gameplay with pinch-to-zoom and support for older devices like the iPhone 4, the iOS edition of the game brings nine exclusive new endings that cannot be found in the Steam version, which released earlier this year.

Activision launches Guitar Hero Live for iOS with optional wireless guitar controller bundles

Publisher Activision today announced immediate availability of a new iPhone iPod touch and iPad game, called Guitar Hero Live. It includes two free of charge trial songs, with hundreds more available when you purchase a controller bundle.

The game is available in the United States starting today and will be launching in Europe this coming Friday, October 23, with an Apple TV version releasing later this year.

An optional $99 bundle is available from major retailers around the country with an AA batteries-powered Bluetooth Low Energy guitar controller along with guitar strap and included redeem code. A two-guitar bundle is $149.99.

Sky Gamblers Air Supremacy goes free as Apple’s App of the Week

Heads up gamers. Apple has just named Atypical Games' "Sky Gamblers Air Supremacy" its App of the Week for this week. This means that from now through next Thursday, you'll be able to grab the game for both your iPhone and iPad, for free—saving you a buck.

For those unfamiliar with the Sky Gamblers franchise, they're airborne fighters hailed for their incredible graphics and console-quality gameplay. Supremacy in particular has an in-depth campaign mode and various multiplier modes to choose from like capture-the-flag.

Minecraft: Story Mode now available on iOS

Telltale Games and Microsoft-owned Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, have teamed up on a brand new, narrative-driven game set in the Minecraft universe. Titled Minecraft: Story Mode, the game launched today in the App Store as a $4.99 download for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Minecraft: Story Mode is framed as a full-blown adventure game. It's not a Minecraft add-on nor does it require the original Minecraft game. Like other Telltale Games releases, Minecraft: Story Mode is a multi-part episodic series.
