Lunatik launches Kickstarter for rugged ‘Epik’ Apple Watch kit

Lunatik, the company who in many ways sparked the Apple-wearable frenzy with its TikTok watch kits for the iPod Nano, has launched a new Kickstarter. Returning to its roots, the team has developed a rugged case/strap kit for 42mm Apple Watch models.

Dubbed the 'Epik,' the kit features a case forged from aluminum alloy and premium performance materials. It fits around a strapless Apple Watch, and can be paired with either a silicon sport strap or a premium aluminum link bracelet with a butterfly clasp.

Google arrives on Apple Watch in update for News & Weather app

Google has updated its News & Weather app today, bringing the software to version 1.7. The update includes various performance and stability improvements, and more significant to us, support for the Apple Watch.

This is essentially the first appearance on Apple's wearable for Google, who runs a competing wearable platform called Android Wear. The move, however, isn't surprising, given the company's sizable presence on iOS.

Eating is perhaps my favorite pastime. While I typically prefer to eat at home where I can prepare higher quality food with enhanced taste and healthier ingredients, there are occasions when I have to pick up something in town. In these instances, I tend to gravitate toward restaurants with a mobile app so I can take my time while deciding on my order, and Chick-fil-A and Taco Bell are a couple restaurants that fulfill this criterion.

Unfortunately, the iPhone apps of these establishments don't yet support Apple Watch. There are, however, some food apps that do, so let's take a look at them.

Comex shows off a web browser running on Apple Watch

In a recent post, we highlighted several different features that we'd like to see come to the Apple Watch by means of a jailbreak. One of those features was a web browser. As silly as it might seem, having a full browser available on your wrist would be kind of cool, if for none other reason than the fact that we can state that we have a full web browser on our wrists.

Legendary jailbreak hacker, Comex, appears to have similar wants, as he's shown off a web browser running on his Apple Watch. The details of how he accomplished such a feat are vague at this point, but it's a definite step in the right direction.

Nike CEO talks Apple Watch and Apple partnership, says new experiences coming

Nike CEO and President Mark Parker sat down with CNBC's “Squawk on the Street” for a quick interview discussing his thoughts on wearable technology, the Apple Watch and his company's partnership with the iPhone maker, confirming that new services are coming down the pipeline.

Nike, which in April 2014 announced shuttering its wearable-hardware efforts, has been collaborating with Apple on fitness wearables for years, in one form or another.

For example, the Nike+ Running iOS application is available on the Apple Watch, too, and Parker now assures us that more from Apple and Nike is yet to come.

Apple Watch’s 28nm application processor is fabbed by Samsung, S1 chip is full of surprises

At the heart of the Apple Watch is Apple's in-house designed 'S1’ component that literally puts an entire computer architecture onto a single chip — an industry term you're looking for is system-in-package (SiP) design.

A recent teardown analysis by ABI Research has managed to identify 512MB of RAM, an ARM-based CPU, a Broadcom Wi-Fi module, an accelerometer and gyroscope, along with a few other components, packed inside the S1.

Today, semiconductor experts over at Chipworks have updated their teardown of the S1 package with a few interesting tidbits related to the type of process technology used while revealing some rather unique design solutions making such small yet powerful package possible.

Apple granted design patent for Apple Watch, probably to be used in future lawsuits

The US Patent and Trademark Office has granted Apple a design patent for the Apple Watch on Wednesday, covering the look and feel of the wearable that hit the market at the end of April.

The patent covers the entire design of the device, from the screen, sensors, charging apparatus, digital crown, and more. Like with all companies do, Apple filed for the patent to protect itself against competitors, so they can't use an identical design.
