This Application Requires the iPhone 3.2 Software Update?

One of my Twitter buddies sent me a screenshot of an error he is currently getting on his iPhone when trying to download a certain application from the App Store. Every time he tries to download VLC, his iPhone tells him that this application is not compatible and that he needs to update his iPhone to iOS 3.2.

Obviously the strange part is there is no such thing as iOS 3.2. There never was and there never will. So why does his iPhone tell him he needs the 3.2 software update?

Twitter for iPhone Updated With Push Notifications

The official Twitter app for iPhone and iPad was just updated to support native push notifications for @mentions and direct messages. Push notifications can be enabled in a new pane for your account settings.

Push notifications for  the Twitter app (and what was formerly Tweetie) has been a highly desired feature for a very long time. I'm sure we're all glad that Twitter has finally gotten around to implementing a feature that should have been part of the app when it was first released...

App Review: Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter

Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter developed by Tatem Games is a first person hunting simulation game that puts you in the shoes of a dinosaur hunter. The game throws you into 5 different locations and made me feel like the Australian hunter that thought he was the king but eventually got viciously eaten from either Jurassic Park 2 or 3 (does anybody remember?).

Your goal is to hunt down dinosaurs with a choice of 6 different weapons that most hunters’ use like the rifle, bow & arrow and shotgun. With these weapons at your disposal, you will be hunting all types of familiar dinosaurs such as the Stegosaurus, Velociraptor and of course, the big mama of them all, the T-Rex...

Official Google Voice Application Now Available in the App Store

Maybe this really is a day we'll never forget after all! Even though the Google Voice web app was pretty good, I always wondered why Google didn't release an official app, especially since Apple loosened up its App Store approval process. It's something I will never wonder again as Apple gave the green light today to the official Google Voice app.

There are already a couple Google Voice apps (1, 2) selling in the App Store, but seeing how good the new official app looks like, and the fact that it comes at the unbeatable price of $0, the official Google Voice application will probably be a success...

3D Movies on Your iPhone? Yes Please

Japanese media artist Jitsuro Mase might be the first person to bring 3D to the iPhone. His invention, i3DG, is a groundbreking device that lets you watch movies in 3 dimensions, without the need of those dorky glasses.

Both production and playback of the video don't require special technology or equipment, which means that you can watch any movie in 3D. So how does this work?

5 Awesome iPhone Utility Apps

I love apps that make my life easier. And when they're really useful, I don't mind paying a little for them. The 5 apps I will mention in this list are not jailbreak apps, so everyone can use them.

Each of these apps is either designed to increase your productivity or make some aspect of your technology life better. They all aren't necessarily cheap, but there are free/lite versions of some. These 5 apps are utilities I use on a daily basis, so they're near and dear to my heart...

Poll: What Do You Think of Apple’s Day “You’ll Never Forget”?

The news fell a little earlier today. The Beatles are now available on iTunes. Hippie! Yippie! Looking at the comments on our post about it, and also at people's reaction on Twitter, I sense that most of you aren't really happy about this.

To me, as a consumer, it's a big disappointment. I understand it's a big deal for the music industry but who cares? We're not music industry execs.

I never sat down and said to myself "gosh I wish the Beatles were on iTunes". No, I just inserted every Beatles' CD in my computer years ago and digitalized all of them. Done. I never thought about it again.

But this news is not just about me. It's about all of us, so let's see what you have to say...

As Expected, iTunes Big Surprise is the Beatles

Just like we reported yesterday, iTunes big day we "will never forget" is about bringing the Beatles to iTunes. Personally, that's a day that I will forget in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...

All jokes aside, the Beatles coming to iTunes is kind of a big deal, at least for the music industry. Devin Coldewey of CrunchGear explains to us why it matters:

AT&T Makes It Easy For You to Sue AT&T

That's a text message I didn't really expect! Apparently someone is gathering people who may want to be part of a class action lawsuit against AT&T. The strange thing about this is that it's AT&T themselves who are sending this text message.

After going to the website mentioned in the text message, I learned that the settlement is about AT&T charging improper taxes for internet access through certain services...

Sn0wBreeze Source Code Goes Open Source

After releasing his Sn0wBreeze jailbreak for iOS 4.1, iH8Sn0w has decided to follow the steps of Chronic DevTeam and their GreenPois0n jailbreak by making SnowBreeze's source code open source.

That means that anyone can download the source code to tweak it and hopefully make it better. I think this is particularly good for wannabe iPhone hackers. Downloading the source code will help you see how a jailbreak works behind the scene.

You can download SnowBreeze's source code from Github.

Spoiler: Tomorrow’s Apple Event is Not About iTunes Cloud, It’s About…

Earlier today we told you about Apple having a big event tomorrow, which is centered around iTunes. At the time, we speculated that the event will most likely be to introduce iTunes Cloud, a service that would allow you to stream music from iTunes, anywhere you are.

Well, it looks like this is not going to happen, at least not tomorrow. According to the WSJ, Apple will announce tomorrow that they finally have the rights to the entire Beatles catalog and that it will be available on iTunes...

No Badges Removes Your iPhone Apps Badges

Do you hate badges so much that you wish they were gone forever? That sounds a little extreme, but if that's what you're into, then there is now a new mod on Cydia that will do exactly what you're looking for.

In the same way No Folder Badges removed badges from your iPhone folders, No Badges, a new jailbreak tweak by Chpwn will remove the badges from your homescreen apps. That's all the app does and from what I can tell it does it well...
