New in iOS 5: Weekly View in Calendar App

And we continue our exploration of new features in iOS 5. Today, we look at the calendar application, which got a pretty handy new feature that gives you a weekly view when in landscape mode.

Whether you're looking at your calendar in List, Day, or Month mode, you can simply rotate the orientation horizontally and you will get a weekly view of your calendar. From there, you can scroll left or right to go to past or future days...

‘6Switcher’ Tries to Cram Six App Icons into Your iPhone’s App Switcher

Tweaks like Five Icon Switcher have been out ever since Apple released iOS 4, but apparently there's still a demand, or at least a perceived demand for tweaks of this sort.

There are many other tweaks that allow you to do something similar, cramming more app icons into a space that was meant to be limited.

Although 6Switcher -- a tweak that stuffs six app icons into your multitasking bar, might add more function to your device -- what it takes away can't be justified in my opinion.

Honestly, I'd rather deal with a few extra swipes than ruin my iPhone's aesthetic appeal, wouldn't you?

Apple Drops Supply Orders for iPhone 4 in Anticipation of New Model

A report from overseas says that Apple has decreased component orders for the iPhone 4 in anticipation of the next iPhone's release in the coming months. The latest rumor claims an August announcement for Apple's next gen device, and these supply chain reports seem to corroborate that timeframe.

According to the Taiwanese-based DigiTimes, circuit board (PCB) suppliers are seeing a decrease in orders from Apple in the second business quarter. A drop in component orders usually means that a company is gearing up for production on a new product, and that product would of course be the next iPhone.

Verizon Ending Unlimited Data Plans Next Month?

We knew it was coming. Rumors of Verizon killing off the unlimited data plan have been running wild for several months now. Not to mention, most of the speculation has pointed to a summer deadline.

Well it appears the gossip is true. DroidLife recently outlined an all-to-likely scenario of Verizon's intent to roll out tiered data plans next month. Obviously, for that to happen, the $30 dollar unlimited plan must go...

iPhone 5 Will Be Significant Redesign with August Announcement?

A new rumor from Boy Genius Report claims that Apple's next gen iPhone will in fact be a major revamp of the current iPhone 4. As the above concept from This is my next shows, the iPhone 5/4S could very well have a slimmer, 'teardrop' design with an aluminum back.

BGR's sources peg the next iPhone announcement for August, instead of the September reports we've been hearing. Instead of an unveiling at Apple's usual music event in September, Apple could break tradition and hold a stand-alone event for the next iPhone in mid August.

Microsoft Invites Hackers to Jailbreak Windows Phone 7

Talk about a change of pace. Instead of the cat-and-mouse game that Apple has been playing with the jailbreak community for years, Microsoft has decided to go the opposite route and actually invite hackers to jailbreak the company's own mobile platform, Windows Phone 7.

ChevronWP7 is doing something unprecedented by developing non-approved apps and services for a closed source OS. Microsoft is allowing this initiative in an attempt to make "Windows Phone development more accessible."

HTML5 Tests Show Mobile Safari Much Faster in iOS 5

Mobile Safari has received some major updates in iOS 5. We've seen new features added like private browsing and Reading List. On top of that, the mobile browser now allows web apps to utilize the Nitro engine, which greatly improves the web app experience.

Multiple sites are reporting that Apple has also improved Mobile Safari's overall performance in the new firmware. We confirm the speculation by running an HTML5 speed test with an iPad on iOS 5. Just how fast is Apple's mobile browser?

iOS 5 Running On a 21-Inch Touchscreen

We've showed you tons of new features in iOS 5, but we've yet to show you what iOS 5 looks like on something slightly bigger than the iPad. Thanks to the iOS Simulator, you can now see what iOS 5 looks like on a 21-inch touchscreen display!

Dissident and i0n1c on Banning Pirated Apps in iOS 5 Jailbreak

Stefan Esser, better known as "i0n1c," has been receiving a lot of heat from the jailbreak community as of late. Stefan is a prominent member of the jailbreak developer scene, and he was responsible for the untethered exploit that has been used for the iOS 4.3 jailbreak.

i0n1c recently introduced the idea of banning pirated apps in the iOS 5 jailbreak. He stated that if he were to release the jailbreak for iOS 5, he would consider placing a restriction on installing apps from the infamous 'Installous' repo. Millions of jailbreakers use Installous to download pirated apps.

Hackulous, the group behind Installous, obviously feels very differently about i0n1c's notion. The frontman for Hackulous, known as Dissident, has also shared his thoughts on the issue of banning cracked apps through a jailbreak.

Crazy Rumor: Apple to Release iPhone 5 on September 7th?

We actually haven't heard too many new hardware rumors in the last few weeks. It seems like everyone is too busy digging through Apple's new iOS 5 software for new features to really care at the moment.

But gossip picked up again over the weekend, as International Business Times stirred up the rumor pot with further speculation on the iPhone 5's release date. The publication believes that we'll all be lining up on September 7th for the next iPhone...
