Learn about the new Local Lists feature in the Apple Maps app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac to see what’s trending around you or in a preferred city.
The Maps app in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 Golden Gate has made two notable changes. First, it improves the Flyover feature for a sharper, richer experience. And secondly, it introduces a new Local Lists option.
According to Apple, Local Lists uses intelligent insights about what’s trending around you or in a specific city you searched for to curate a section showing restaurants, great spots for your kids, places to meet friends, and other locally relevant places. This new feature helps you easily find popular and interesting local locations you might otherwise never stumble upon.
For now, Local Lists are available exclusively for U.S. cities but aren’t necessarily geolocked to users in this area. So, even if you’re outside the United States but are planning to travel there, you can see Local Lists for the U.S. city by searching for it, as we’ll show you below.
Another thing to note is that you won’t see Local Lists for all areas, places, and cities.
And finally, in true Apple fashion, Apple says that Local Lists insights are never tied to individual users to ensure privacy.
Use Local Lists in Apple Maps
The steps are similar for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. We’re using an iPhone running iOS 27 to show you the steps.
1) Update your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 Golden Gate.
2) Open the Maps app and swipe up on the bottom card. Or search for a city and then swipe up on the bottom card.
3) You should see a Guides section, and in this you may see one or more Local Lists tiles showcasing breakfast spots, places to take your kids, dining restaurants, museums, parks, amusement parks, stadiums, zoos, beaches, farmers’ markets, and more.
4) Tap a Local List to see all the spots mentioned in it. You’ll also see how many places are under this Local List and when the list was last updated.
5) Tap the Add to Guides button to save this list to your Guides. Or, tap the plus icon for a particular spot to save it to your places list.
- To see all your saved guides, open Maps, swipe up on the bottom card, and you’ll find it in the Your Guides section.
- To see individual saved places, open Maps, and tap your profile icon, followed by Places.
Additionally, if you search for a place in the Maps app, like a restaurant, and if it’s included in a Local List, you’ll see it mentioned under the “Featured in Guides” heading, as shown in the screenshot below.
Here’s how the Local Lists look in the Maps app on Mac running macOS 27 Golden Gate:
What do you think of this new feature? Will you use it? Or will you keep relying on Google search, Yelp, and other apps to find places of interest around you?
