Apple to update iPad Air this year, no 12.9-inch iPad or new mini until 2015

KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo is out with a new research note this weekend, offering predictions on Apple's tablet plans for the next two years. The analyst, who has a strong track record in tech predictions, believes that 2014 will be the year of the iPad Air.

Kuo sees Apple updating the full-sized iPad this year with an A8 processor, Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and possibly a few other improvements. But as for a new iPad mini and the oft-rumored 12.9-inch iPad "pro," he believes we wont see them until 2015...

How to play Nintendo games via mobile Safari no jailbreak required

This is downright amazing. Somebody has put together a website that allows you to play NES ROMs directly from Mobile Safari, no jailbreak required. The website, which is called webNES, allows users to link a Dropbox account to load their favorite NES ROMs and play them right from the browser.

I've tested webNES with a handful of ROMs, and most of them play decently, but there is some definite choppiness and slowdown. The emulator features a built in soft-controller, and the games can be played in either portrait or landscape mode.

The great thing about webNES is that it runs totally in your browser. This means that there's really no way for Apple to shut it down, since it doesn't require any apps or downloads from a jailbreak source like Cydia. Check out our full video walkthrough inside as I show you how I play a few of my favorite NES games directly in Safari.

Radiohead launches PolyFauna, an experimental visual music app

It was 1993, I had recently graduated from high school (I know, I’m outing my age right now), and “Creep” was the feel-sad hit of the summer. I may never have become an ultimate fan of the band, but Radiohead was fairly innovative and ahead of its time. They’ve always held a spot in my heart for that.

PolyFauna is an app that the band recently launched in collaboration with art design studio Universal Everything. This app was brought about as an inspiration to Radiohead’s 2011 release “Bloom” from “The King of Limbs” album…

OK, so your Flappy Bird obsession has finally subsided. You’ve detoxed from the bird-themed simple game and no longer have an unquenchable desire to fly between two green pipes. Now what? How about another endless runner to get you hooked again?

Riot Runners is an endless runner game that will satisfy your craving for things that fly between pipes. Only these flying things are robotic-looking and the pipes are more like gears...

Good deal: 32% off OUYA game console bundle

A little over a year ago, a new kind of gaming console called the OUYA popped up on Kickstarter and took the crowd-funding site by storm. The project promised to bring all of the benefits of mobile gaming to the living room, and went on to collect more than $8 million.

The OUYA officially hit the market in late 2012, to mix reviews, and has since seen several updates to fix prominent user complaints. So if you've been wanting to try it out, there's never been a better time than now — especially since it's on sale right now over at Stack Social...

Apps of the Week: realMyst, R-Type II, The Wolf Among Us – Ep. 2, and more…

I love mid-February. It means we are just a little bit closer to spring. While this winter has felt more like spring than anything else in my neck of the woods, I still look forward to the long, sun-soaked summer days.

If you are ready for the springtime and don’t plan on doing anything but playing games or making music this weekend, we’ve got a list of apps and games we think are pretty cool…

The Gloss bookmarklet helps you highlight and save text on the web

Sometimes the simple things are what make our lives a little better. Sure there are some very useful productivity tools for saving and sharing websites (Evernote being my preferred option). But sometimes, you just need something a little simpler.

Gloss is a Safari bookmarklet for OS X that lets you highlight and save one sentence at a time from any website. It may sound too simple, but read on to find out why it might be the right fit for you…

AppETA: an awesome way to check the progress of app downloads

iOS 7 makes it difficult to gauge where you are with App Store downloads. With very large downloads, it's a frustrating experience to watch the progress circle slowly inch around at a snail's pace.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could get a more informational view of your App Store download progress? What about bringing back the classing download status indicators? With AppETA, a new jailbreak tweak available on Cydia's BigBoss repo, you can do all of that and more.

BlueBoard: add a blue keyboard to iOS

BlueBoard is a recently released tweak that does just as its name implies—it allows you to add a blue tinted keyboard to iOS. As with most tweaks of this sort, BlueBoard doesn't rely on WinterBoard or any other outside theming systems to work. Once you install it, you can enable the tweak via its own dedicated preference panel.

Look past the break for a video walkthrough of BlueBoard in action...

Folks looking to score an iPhone in the near future may want to check out their local Best Buy. Starting Sunday, February 16, the retailer will start discounting iPhone models by $50 as long as they're purchased with a two-year contract.

Pinterest app updated with the ability to view and pin GIFs

Pinterest, the popular social scrapbooking site, updated its iOS client today, bringing the app to version 3.4. The change log for the update only says "we just made Pinterest a little better for you," but the company's blog says they've added GIF support.

Users can now pin GIFs directly to their pinboards, which will show up in feeds (on the web, or within the mobile app) with a small play button. GIFs can then be played via mobile, shared to other social networks and of course repinned across platforms...
