GarageBand for Mac gains Force Touch and Apple Music Connect support, new content and more

Tuesday, Apple issued a substantial update to GarageBand for Mac, its own application that allows users to create music or podcasts. In GarageBand 10.1, users can take advantage of built-in Apple Music Connect support to share directly from GarageBand to Apple Music's Connect feature, basically a repository for artists to share content with music lovers like lyrics, behind-the-scenes videos, photos, concert recordings, studio sessions and more.

In addition, the application now takes advantage of a third dimension provided by pressure-sensing trackpads on the new twelve-inch MacBook and fifteen-inch MacBook Pro while providing several other enhancements.

Pinterest begins rolling out Buyable Pins on iOS

Pinterest has begun rolling out Buyable Pins to iPhone and iPad users, reports TechCrunch. The feature, which was unveiled earlier this month, allows retail partners to add a buy button to pins that let users purchase products directly on Pinterest.

The button shows up on Rich Pins, which have much more information than typical Pins. Transactions are handled by Stripe, and Pinterest says it's working with companies like Apple to ensure it doesn't ever have to touch credit card information.

These new features will go live in over a hundred Apple Music countries via a free update to Soundhound's iOS app, which will be rolling out later today.

Springtomize 3 updated for iOS 8.4

One of the most popular and well-regarded tweaks available on Cydia has just been updated. Springtomize 3, under the tutelage of another developer, has been updated to work with the latest Apple firmware. I've tested it out personally, and can confirm that it works on iOS 8.4.

TaiG releases an iOS 8.4 jailbreak

As expected, TaiG has released an update to its jailbreak tool for iOS 8.4. Just a while ago, PP released a jailbreak tool, which TaiG claims uses its code. For those of you who didn't want to bother with the PP tool for this reason, you'll be glad to know that TaiG's updated 2.2.0 jailbreak is now available for iOS 8.4 users.

PP releases working iOS 8.4 jailbreak

PP, the same team who released a previous iOS 8 jailbreak for Mac, and who was accused of taking code from TaiG, has purportedly released an iOS 8.4 jailbreak. We have been able to confirm that this jailbreak works on iOS 8.4. That said, TaIG claims that PP stole its code, but we are not able to confirm this as of yet.

How to jailbreak iOS 8.4 with PP Jailbreak

Surprise. Only a few hours after iOS 8.4 released, there is a working jailbreak. The tool, entitled PPGhost, is a Windows only jailbreak tool that works for iOS 8.4. In this tutorial, I'll show you how to jailbreak iOS 8.4 on your iPhone or iPad using the PP Jailbreak tool.

There are some rumblings that PP took the code from TaiG, but we have not confirmed this. As such, you may want to wait for the TaiG tool update to jailbreak iOS 8.4. I personally prefer waiting, as it's wrong to steal code, if the claims are true, which are difficult to prove. When TaiG releases their updated tool, we'll post a tutorial, and deprecate this one. In the meantime...

Apple loses final appeal in e-books price-fixing suit, will pay $450 million fine

A federal appeals court on Tuesday upheld a 2013 decision finding Apple guilty for conspiring with publishers to raise e-book prices, reports The Wall Street Journal. As a result, the company is expected to pay a $450 million settlement it agreed to with private plaintiffs, 30+ states and the DOJ last year.

“We conclude that the district court correctly decided that Apple orchestrated a conspiracy among the publishers to raise e-book prices,” wrote Second Circuit Judge Debra Ann Livingston. The conspiracy “unreasonably restrained trade” in violation of the Sherman Act, the federal antitrust law, she wrote.

Shortly after releasing iOS 8.4 for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and OS X 10.10.4 for the Mac, Apple refreshed the mobile Beats Music application in the App Store so you can transfer your existing playlists and library over to Apple Music. Release notes accompanying the update make no mention of other changes beyond playlist migration.

The app is available at no charge in the App Store.

Apple posts OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 with Wi-Fi fixes, Mail and Photos improvements and more

In addition to the new iOS 8.4 software update with a redesigned Music app, Beats 1 radio and Apple Music for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, Apple also released the free OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 software update for Macs.

In addition to various other big fixes, enhancements and nice-to-haves, this release of OS X Yosemite gets rid of the dreaded “discoveryd” network process which was responsible for a range of network issues, marking the return of the old but way more reliable “mDNSResponder” process.
