SemiRestore tool lets you restore your device without losing your jailbreak

SemiRestore, a tool that allows you to restore your jailbroken devices to a clean state without losing your jailbreak, has been recently updated to support devices running iOS 5.0 all the way up to iOS 9.1. SemiRestore is currently available for Windows and Linux only, with Mac support apparently coming in the future.

If the news may sound exciting at first for jailbreak users who've been waiting for such a solution, it must be noted that initial feedback from users who've tried the tool is very much mixed, with many reporting getting stuck during the process, and even one person reporting he had no other option of restoring his device to iOS 9.3.2.

Apple releases updated version of iOS 9.3.2 for 9.7-inch iPad Pro

Nearly two weeks after pulling this version for bricking 9.7-inch iPad Pro devices, Apple has released iOS 9.3.2 today, presumably fixing the bricking issue once and for all. Carrying build number 13F72 this iOS 9.3.2 update is specifically for the 9.7-inch version of the iPad Pro. The update is now available both over the air, and as a separate download.

Simple math: why I never buy AppleCare

I broke the screen of my Apple Watch yesterday. Or maybe more accurately, my two-year-old son grabbed my Apple Watch as I was taking a shower, slipped and fell with the watch hitting our bathroom tile floor face down. It happened all before my eyes, although I didn't know he was holding the watch in his hand. The strange sound I heard when he fell alerted me something wasn't right though. My wife confirmed seconds later that the watch was what I had heard and that the screen was shattered.

Surprisingly, I didn't even yell at my son, or lose my cool, but as I was finishing up showering, I started pondering my options. Because I don't buy AppleCare for any Apple products I purchase, I knew this was most likely going to cost me a pretty penny. Boy was I right!

Let’s Talk Jailbreak 150: Such a tease

Times are getting harder and harder for jailbreakers, and despite seeing a jailbreak being teased, nothing seems to indicate things are going to get better, especially with WWDC around the corner and potential security improvements made to iOS. Still, Cody and Sebastien discuss the teasing of jailbreaks and a few newsworthy tweaks recently released.

Hacker demos iOS 9.3.2 browser-based jailbreak

Italian hacker Luca Todesco is once again making waves in the jailbreak community after demonstrating on video a browser-based jailbreak on a 6th generation iPod touch running iOS 9.3.2.

Similar to the now classic JailbreakMe, the method used by Todesco can apparently jailbreak the device directly from Safari, without requiring a computer.

10 Siri for Mac features I hope to see in OS X 10.12

Siri is one of these features that feels like a broken promise. Not only it hasn't evolved that much over the years, but it's also not that much more reliable than it was when it was first introduced back in 2011.

If the rumor mill is any indication of what's to come, it appears that Siri might make its way to the Mac, and maybe get even smarter with the introduction of an SDK for developers.

So I sat down and started thinking about what specifically I would want Siri to be able to do on my Mac, beyond the smart assistant's existing capabilities. This is my wish-list.

Am I the only one wanting a keyboard on Apple Watch?

Call me crazy or call me what you will, but when I saw Android Wear 2.0 was bringing support for third-party keyboards, I immediately started imagining how useful that would be on my Apple Watch.

Of course the screen is too small to accommodate a keyboard. Heck, it’s already too small to punch in your passcode without missing a tap target. Still, not only do I think there may me a need for it, but I also believe the technology to make this right is now available.

Let’s Talk iOS 136: Hey Siri, can you answer this?

Cody and Sebastien answer readers' mail, talk about the new iDB app update, shorter review times in the App Store, Google i/o, and what seems to be troubling times for Apple when it comes to artificial intelligence. Oh, and Cody got a new iPad because he got a good deal on it!

How did this movie streaming app get approved in the App Store? [update: it’s gone]

We've seen our fair share of oddities when it comes to approval of apps in the App Store, but this one probably takes the cake for the most obvious reason: it lets you stream  movies directly from your iPhone or iPad at no cost. We're not talking old movies that are in the public domain either. We're talking recent movies, some of them still being played in theaters.

Update: Apple pulled this app from the App Store. It would have been nice to have an explanation about why and how it was approved in the first place, but I guess we'll have to let our imagination run wild.

iOS 9.3.3 jailbreak teased, but don’t expect anything

There is a jailbreak for iOS 9.3.3, but you shouldn't hold your breath for it as you most likely won't be able to enjoy it anytime soon, if ever. As he did in the past, Italian hacker Luca Todesco teased what appears to be an iPod touch running iOS 9.3.3. beta 1 with Cydia installed earlier today, and if the past is any indication of the future, nothing will materialize for jailbreak users like you and me.
