Hacker demos Flying JB, an iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak of little interest

Chinese hacker Min Zheng has showed a demo of Flying JB earlier today, a jailbreak for 32-bit devices running iOS 9.2.1 or lower. The video demo shows off an iPhone 5c going through the jailbreak process as well as Mobile Terminal running on the device once jailbroken.

What may sound like exciting news at first is actually nothing to call home about as the limitations and actual usage potential of Flying JB are extremely limited.

How to have iCloud sync your calendar subscriptions across Mac, iPhone, and iPad

I recently wrote a post describing how to add the schedule of the Euro 2016 to your iPhone, Mac, or iPad calendar app in order to keep up with the competition. As described in my post, subscribing to this calendar (or any other calendar) directly from your iPhone or iPad, will only add the calendar locally on the device, but it won't sync across all your other devices like an iCloud calendar would.

iDB reader Kyler emailed us earlier today asking how he can subscribe to a calendar while adding it to his iCloud account to make sure the calendar events sync to his iPhone, iPad, and Mac, without having to manually subscribe to the calendar on each device. This is what we're going to do look at in this post.

Add the Euro 2016 schedule to your iPhone or iPad calendar

The UEFA Euro 2016 will kick off tomorrow with France taking on Romania in the first game of the competition. If you're a casual football fan (sorry, I can't call it soccer!), and want to keep up with the competition schedule and fixtures without necessarily downloading a bunch of apps, your best bet is to subscribe to a calendar that will push all games dates, times, and places to your iPhone or iPad calendar app of choice.

Former Embark CEO leaves Apple nearly three years after acquisition

David Hodge, former Founder and CEO of a company that Apple acquired in 2013 called Embark, announced today on Twitter that he has departed the company. At the time of the acquisition, Embark had transit data on large cities such as Chicago, New York, and San Francisco and had apps considered to be some of the best in their class. This data and the technology used in Embark apps have since helped improve the transit feature of Apple's Maps app.

Why I think Spotlight and Siri should be one

Ever since the rumors of Siri making its way to the Mac began gaining credence, I started thinking about how I would like to use the feature on OS X, and what it would mean for Siri on iOS. As I was toying around with the idea of Siri on my Mac, something became apparent very quickly: Siri and Spotlight Search have a lot in common. So much so that maybe it would make sense to merge then into one feature at some point. Let me explain.

SemiRestore is now (sort of) available for Mac OS X

Three days after the release of SemiRestore for Windows and Linux, the tool is also now supporting Mac OS X. Well, sort of, as the developer notes in the ReadMe file that "SemiRestore for OS X is provided on a 'works for me' basis." So our initial warning about using this tool still applies here, as you might do this at your own risks.

Mark Gurman shares more details about upcoming WWDC announcements, new iPhones, and more

While in between two jobs, reporter Mark Gurman appeared on the latest episode of The Jay & Farhad Show podcast, where he shared more details about what we might see at WWDC this year, including new iOS features and design tweaks. Gurman also revealed more information about this year and next year's iPhone models.

While most of Gurman details were already known or rumored for a while, he did also offer information about features we hadn't heard of until now.
