Yousician, Imgur, BriefMe, and more apps to check out this weekend

This coming Monday is going to be a big day in the tech world. It is the day that, presumably, Apple will officially launch its long-awaited Watch. I don’t know about you, but the waiting is excruciating.

If you need some content to keep you distracted while waiting for the hours to tick by, we’ve got a list of apps and games that might keep your mind blissfully ignorant of the time this weekend.

Breaking brings an RSS feed reader widget to Notification Center on iOS and OS X

If you are a news junkie, you probably have all sorts of alerts set up to let you know the moment a story breaks. Wouldn’t it be nice if your RSS feeds were available right in the Today view of Notification Center?

Breaking – News in your Today tab populates your favorite news feeds in Notification Center for iOS and OS X, so you access stories you want to read without having to open a special app for it. All of your news is right in front of you, available with one swipe or click.

Words U makes you smarter while you text

You might call me a word nerd. One of my favorite things to do while writing is looking up synonyms. I absolutely hate seeing a sentence with the same noun in it more than once. When it comes to reviewing apps, you’d be surprised how hard it is to come up with a new word for “game.”

Words U is a messaging app that translates your conversation into sentences with alternate words. Instead of “Hi,” you’ll be saying “Salutations” to your friends. You don’t have to worry about your friends thinking you are being pretentious either. The conversations all take place within the app, so everyone is being a smarty-pants.

Momentum is a delightful habit tracker for iPhone

Growing up, I was under the impression that habits were something to avoid. Burping, being late, and eating too many cookies were all habits my parents tried to steer me away from. Habits are not always bad, though. Exercising every day, learning a new word, and practicing an instrument are all good habits to get into.

Momentum is a productivity app that helps you get into the habit of doing something good. If you want to start something new, but have trouble sticking to your goal, this app sends you friendly reminders to stay on track.

Vimo lets you add animated stickers to your videos

I have a love affair with chat stickers. I don’t know why. I feel like a preteen whenever I use them, but I can’t help myself. I giggle every time I send a sticker of a crying cat or pooping bunny.

Vimo takes chat stickers a step further by turning them into animations that you can overlay on your video. You can even edit them so they look like they are interacting with your subject.

Sopio, Icetris, FontLab, and more apps to check out this weekend

With Apple’s big announcement for a March 9 special event, it is difficult to stay focused on apps and games. However, we still need to keep you guys up-to-date with new content coming out each week.

Soon, these lists will include updates to your favorites titles with Apple Watch compatibility. But until then, we will continue to bring you information on new apps and games to check out this weekend.

Tap Heroes review: whether you are active or not, your adventure continues

You may recall my review of Dreeps, which is a role-playing adventure game that plays by itself, even when you don’t have it open. It works great for gamers that just don’t have time to game.

Tap Heroes is similar in that the fighting continues whether you actively participate, or simply watch the action unfold. We have a game review of Tap Heroes for you today.

TWIST3D puts a new spin on the match-three genre

Traditional match-three games are usually presented on a flat screen with some kind of grid. Players usually flip tiles in order to make a match and point scores go up the more matches you make at one time.

TWIST3D is kind of not at all like that. It is a match-three game, but it is played on a rotating cube instead of a flat grid. You can’t flip tiles, but you can flip the entire cube. You earn the most points for matching tiles that have gems inside of them.

Okay? is a minimalist puzzle game that tests your indie ideologies

I’ve often heard gamers say they would rather pay for a title up front instead of downloading it for free and then being asked to pay to continue playing. The idea being that good indie games deserve support, but it shouldn’t be forced on them.

Okay? is a minimalist puzzle game that puts your indie support ideologies to the test. What if you had the option to pay money or play for free, with no change in the content? Would you still show your financial support?

Hero Keyboard wants to reinvent the way you type

Although our brains and fingers are most familiar with the QWERTY layout of a keyboard, it really isn’t such a smart design when you think about it. I mean, how often do you use the letter Q?

HERO Keyboard is a third-party keyboard app that completely redesigns the layout of letters so that the most-used are conveniently located in a center circle with secondary and tertiary letters in the outer layers.

Imps In Tokyo is a unique atmospheric adventure arcade game

Most of us have wondered where dreams come from at least once or twice in our lives. There is even a whole industry around interpreting them. What if there was a whole other dimension where creatures were fighting to protect our good dreams from other creatures that are trying to steal them.

Imps In Tokyo is an adventure arcade that tells the story of good creatures protecting our dreams from bad ones. If they don’t stop the invasion, we may never sleep soundly again.
