AG Drive review: get behind the wheel of an anti-gravity racecar

I’ve mentioned before that there are just too many racing games on the market. It gets to the point where, unless a game is doing something different, it starts to feel like a new skin on an old title.

AG Drive does something different. Instead of putting the pedal to the metal on hyper realistic pavement, players get behind the wheel of anti-gravity ships and blast off at incredible speeds across the skyways of the universe. We’ve got a full game review of AG Drive for you today.

Weather Underground launches a new storm tracker app

Weather Underground is at it again. The company that provides some of the most comprehensive data from more than 100,000 personal weather stations around the U.S. has just launched a new app to help you keep track of storms.

Aptly named Storm by Weather Underground, it includes a laundry list of features including weather layers, overlays and warnings. Plus, you can see alerts for severe weather warnings, lightning, and rainfall right on your Lock screen using the Notification Center widget.

This widget adds a phone dialer to Notification Center

There are dozens of apps out there that offer a streamlined interface so you can find contacts and make phone calls quickly and easily, but how many can you count will put a widget on your Lock screen so you can make phone calls in Notification Center?

YoBu is a Notification Center extension that allows you to search for contacts by name or number, and then call them right from the Today view on your Lock screen.

Create low poly art from your photos using Trigraphy

Fans of the low poly art movement will be happy to know that, there’s an app for that. Now, instead of building the geometric vector design from scratch, anyone can turn any image into something Piet Mondrian would be impressed with.

Trigraphy is a photography app that turns any picture into low poly geometric art. You can make a still life out of things you find in your kitchen and it will be good enough to frame.

Weafo lets you quickly transfer files to multiple recipients using App Extensions

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. You have a large file that you want to send to someone, but it’s too big for email. So, you open up Dropbox or some other cloud storage service. What if you could share large files without the need of Dropbox, or AirDrop, or email, or any of that?

Weafo is an app extension that lets you transfer files to a recipient on the same Wi-Fi network using a designated web address. Select the file you want. Tap the Share icon. Tell the recipient the address. You’re done.

Cava Racing, SNL, Phone Doctor Plus, and more apps to check out this weekend

I don’t know what you guys have been up to, but I’ve spent all of my free time playing Radiation Island for the past week. I can’t get enough of that game. If you aren’t into the whole lovey-dovey holiday, or maybe don’t have anyone to spend Valentine’s Day with, you may need something else to occupy your time. We’ve got a list of apps and games we think will help get you through the weekend.

World of Khaos turns tower defense into shoot ‘em up mayhem

Tower defense is another one of those categories that we see a lot on mobile devices. In order to rise to the top and earn acclaim, developers need a unique take on the genre.

World of Khaos is both unique and classic. Players must fight waves of iridium based robots, cyborgs, and mutants on a stationary screen with a design style that reminds me of shoot ‘em up games like Raiden.

Simplify for Mac review: access multiple media players from one controller

A third-party media controller can be very useful. I like having a special widget for Spotify right in my Mac’s Notification Center. What would really be nice is an app that allows you to control multiple players from one widget.

Simplify for Mac is a media player that lets you control the playback of iTunes, Spotify, Rdio, Pandora, and Vox right in your menu bar. We’ve got a detailed app review of Simplify for Mac today.

Fragment app update turns your photos into 3-D images

If you were smart enough to pick up Fragment when it was Apple’s Free App of the Week, you may have already noticed the new features in the recent update. Version 1.6 has a couple of inspiring new features, including 3-D rendering of images. Grab yourself a pair of blue and reds and create photographs that pop right out at you.

The latest update to Fragment includes three new effects, Glow, Outline, and 3D Glasses. Each new filter will add an extra blast of beauty to your geometric subject matter.

Radiation Island is like Lost mixed with Minecraft and The Walking Dead

One of iDB’s readers recently recommended we check out Radiation Island. I noticed in the App Store the day it launched, but had so much going on that I skipped it over without looking into what it was (that happens sometimes).

I am so glad our readers are on top of new releases because that recommendation led me to check the game out and I am hooked. Read my hands-on game review of Radiation Island below.

Bitstrips: share fun comics starring you and your friends

Remember Bitstrips? It came out a few years ago. You could make funny little comic strips starring yourself and your Facebook friends. It was all the rage. It even won a few awards last year.

The Bitstrips app just received a major update that makes the customizable comic strip even better. Now, you can create comic scenes using your own photographs.
