Every time you start to enter text on your Apple Watch or Apple TV, you get a keyboard input notification on your iPhone or iPad prompting you to type there instead. If you want to turn it off, we have outlined the quick steps below.
When you tap a text field on your Apple Watch, your iPhone immediately lights up with a notification saying, “Apple Watch Keyboard. Keyboard Input: Enter text on your Apple Watch using your iOS keyboard. Press to type.” (Image above)
Similarly, when you enter a text field to type something on your Apple TV, you get a similar notification on your iPhone or iPad.
Why it happens
Typing on the small watch screen or using the Apple TV Siri remote can be tedious, time-consuming, and confusing, especially when entering long strings of text like your Apple ID password that has symbols & special characters. Thus you have this handy keyboard input notification feature to comfortably use your iPhone or iPad to enter text on those devices.
However, if you’re content with the on-device keyboard of Apple Watch and Apple TV and think that getting a notification on your iPhone or iPad is annoying or useless, you have the option to switch it off.
Turn off Apple Watch and Apple TV Keyboard Input notifications on iPhone or iPad
- Open the iPhone or iPad Settings app and tap Notifications.
- Under Notification Style, select Apple Watch Keyboard or Apple TV Keyboard.
- Turn off the switch for Allow Notifications.
From now on, when you start typing on your Apple Watch or Apple TV, your iPhone or iPad won’t show the keyboard input notification.
In case you would like to receive the keyboard input notification but not the sound, keep the Allow Notifications switch enabled but disable the Sound switch.
Finally, if you ever change your mind and wish to enter text on your watch or Apple TV again using your iPhone or iPad, follow the same initial steps as above and enable Allow Notifications for Apple Watch Keyboard or Apple TV Keyboard.
