The best apps to convert image formats for iPhone and iPad

Apps to convert image formats on iPhone

What do you do when you have a great image saved as a PNG on your iPhone or iPad and someone needs it in a JPG format, or vice versa? Well, you have to convert it, of course. But this isn’t always as easy as it seems.

If you’re in the market for a mobile app that doesn’t cost a fortune, gives you the file types you need, and is easy to use, then you came to the right place. Here are the best apps to convert image formats on iPhone and iPad.

Criteria and feature

Here are a few of the things we looked for when creating this list of the best apps to convert image formats.

  • File formats: If you just need to convert JPGs and PNGs, that not a problem. But if you want to convert BMPs, PSDs, or GIFs, it can be more of a challenge to find a tool. This list includes a mixture of both.
  • Intuitive interface: You should be able to convert an image file format in just a few taps and without a confusing interface to do it.

JPEG, PNG, Image File Converter

JPEG to PNG Image File Converter iPhone

JPEG, PNG, Image File Converter gives you the most basic image file formats, JPEG and PNG. The app converts many types of file formats to either of those two, quickly and easily.

So, you can convert from JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TGA, or HEIF (.heic) file formats in a few taps. Select your photo, pick JPEG or PNG, tap Convert & Save. The converted image will be saved to your Camera Roll.

This free app is pretty heavy on the ads. But if you like how well it works, you can snag the ad-free version at an affordable price.

  • Availability: iPhone, iPad, and Android
  • Cost: Free with an ad-free version for $0.99 (currently)

Image Format Converter

Image Format Converter goes a step further than the app above. You can convert over 40 file formats. Need to convert a BMP to a TGA or a PNG to PSD? This app has you covered. Be sure to review their entire App Store description for supported file types.

Select your file, photo, or snap a picture to get started. Then, optionally resize the image or just continue on and choose your file type. Tap to convert and then open your image within the app when you finish. You can then save or share your converted image.

Image Format Converter also contains ads, although not quite as distracting as others. If you decide to purchase the ad-free version, you will also receive features like image editing and multiple file processing.

  • Availability: iPhone and iPad
  • Cost: Free with an in-app purchase for ad-removal and extra features for $2.99 (currently)

File Converter – By Online-Convert.com

File Converter Online Convert iPhone

The final app on our list, File Converter – By Online-Convert.com, takes it up a couple more notches. The app not only offers many image file formats for conversions, but also documents, videos, e-books, and audio files.

To use the image converting feature, select your image, choose your format, and then tap Start Conversion. When you finish, you can download your converted image or share it via email from the app.

One drawback to this app is that your images are uploaded to their servers for processing. The in-app policy states that uploaded files will be deleted automatically after 24 hours or 10 downloads, whichever happens first. So, if this is a concern to you, you may want to go with one of the other image converters on our list.

  • Availability: iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web
  • Cost: Free
