DOJ could sue Apple as early as Wednesday over eBook pricing

Reuters is reporting tonight that the US Department of Justice could file a lawsuit against Apple as early as tomorrow morning over its iBook Store. The store utilizes an 'agency' model, which allows publishers to name their own eBook prices.

The DOJ believes that Apple is acting in concert with a number of publishers, who have recently raised their eBook prices across multiple platforms, to raise prices across the industry — which happens to be a violation of federal antirust laws...

Four-inch iPhone concept gets mocked up

Earlier today we shared an interesting theory with you regarding the argument for a four-inch iPhone. The case for the larger-screened device was laid out by a Verge forum member, and has since garnered some serious attention around the web.

So much in fact, that a mock-up of the conceptualized handset has already surfaced. 9to5Mac reader Spencer Caldwell created the image you see above, which gives us a good idea of what an iPhone with a 1152x640 display could look like...

Stride: unlock your iPhone with impeccable style

Stride is a brand new jailbreak tweak from excellent jailbreak developer and designer Adam Bell. It allows you to unlock your iPhone using an 8-bit styled drawing for security, in lieu of iOS’ boring passcode option.

When you try out the tweak for yourself, it's immediately obvious that there's some highly calculated design behind this effort. Indeed, Stride allows you to unlock your iPhone with impeccable style...

Turn your iPad into a laptop with the NoteBookCase

9to5Mac spotlights an interesting iPad accessory that appears to turn the popular tablet into a miniature MacBook Pro. The NoteBookCase houses your iPad in a clamshell-like case with an Apple-style keyboard.

Of course, there is no shortage of keyboard-packing iPad cases on the market — both Zagg and Kensington make some pretty popular models. But none of them pack near the amount of features as the NoteBookCase...

Siri speaks Hindi with a little help from a proxy server

Last month, Apple released iOS 5.1 to the masses. The update included few new features, but it did bring Japanese Siri support. This brought the digital assistant's number of compatible languages up to a whopping... four.

But if Siri doesn't currently support your language, that doesn't mean you're out of luck. Developer Kunal Kaul took matters into his own hands and taught Siri to speak Hindi — with a little help from his proxy server...

A scenario for an iPhone with a 4-inch display

Even though we are likely a good 6 months away from seeing Apple's next iPhone in the flesh, we are already hearing tons of gossip regarding possible new features. One rumor in particular, an all-new 4-inch display, seems to be surfacing rather consistently.

Folks in the Apple community have been postulating the existence of a 4-inch iPhone for more than a year now. And after more than two years with the iPhone 4 design, and over 5 years with the 3.5-inch form factor, many think the handset is ripe for a change...

Adobe updates iOS Reader with sticky notes, PDF forms, digital signing

Adobe ported its PDF reader app to the iOS platform last October, but the software's been slow to catch on with users as iOS already sports basic built-in PDF support and Adobe's app did little to build on this foundation with new capabilities.

An update that just went live on the App Store aims to rectify this with the ability to digitally sign PDF documents using your finger, comment stuff with sticky notes, underscore parts of the document with new highlight tools and more...

New iPad already accounts for 10% of all US iPad traffic

Chitika, an online ad network and data analytics firm, has just released a report regarding recent iPad usage in the United States. The company serves up around 4 billion ads a month and uses that network to track mobile traffic.

According to the report, Apple's new tablet now accounts for more than 10% of all iPad traffic the ad company tracks here in the United States. Not bad for a product that was released just under a month ago...

Carriers to curb cellphone theft with joint database of stolen devices

Apple's own Find My iPhone service is great for finding your misplaced device, but it usually isn't much of a help when someone steals your brand spanking new iPhone to make a quick buck by reselling it.

Looking to contain an explosion of smartphone-related theft, major United States carriers have joined forces on an interesting nationwide initiative. They teamed up with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to create a joint database that would keep track of stolen handsets and those reported as lost.

This should drastically reduce resale value of stolen devices as those would be denied voice and data services...
