In this step-by-step tutorial, we explain how you can get the recently announced smart Siri and the new Siri app on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac running iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 Golden Gate.
The new Siri runs on Google’s Gemini foundation model and is a lot smarter now. Improvements to Siri were one of the major highlights of this year’s WWDC, where Apple showcased what it can do.
Siri now has on-screen awareness. As a result, you can be in any app and ask Siri about the contents on your iPhone screen.
Siri can now also handle complex multi-level tasks, and there is even a new Siri app that functions much like ChatGPT, Grok, and other AI chatbots.
Here’s how to try it out before it’s available for the general public later in the fall (~September 2026).
Step 1: Make sure you have a supported device
The new Siri and Siri AI are only supported on devices that support Apple Intelligence.
- iPhone: 15 Pro and all later models
- iPad: All iPads with an Apple silicon chip + iPad mini with A17 Pro chip
- Mac: All Mac models with an Apple silicon chip (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5)
Step 2: Check language and region settings beforehand
You can follow this tip now, or do it in case the new Siri doesn’t work for you later.
- Go to device Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Language and set it to English, preferably English (United States).
- Go to device Settings > General > Language & Region and set your region to United States.
Step 3: Update to OS 27
The next step is to get iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 Golden Gate on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. All these are currently in developer beta phase, with public beta expected in July, and the general release sometime in September.
We have a full tutorial explaining how to install iOS 27 on your iPhone if you’re willing to try the developer beta and live with the bugs, glitches, and issues that usually come with beta software.
Step 4: Join the waitlist and wait
After booting into iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27, go to Settings / System Settings > Siri > and tap Try New Siri.
You’ll now see a Siri with Apple Intelligence splash screen; tap Join Waitlist > Continue.
You have now joined the waitlist. All you have to do now is wait. Some people were let in after a few minutes, while others, like me, had to wait more than a day.
An important thing to note is that you have to join the new Siri waitlist only on one of your devices. After I joined on my iPad, I saw the “Joined Waitlist” message in Siri settings on my iPhone and Mac. Of course, it goes without saying that all three of my devices have the same Apple Account.
Step 5: Try New Siri
Once you’re past the waitlist, you’ll get a notification from Apple informing you of this. You may also see a banner at the top of the Settings app. Even if you don’t get a notification or banner, periodically go to your device Settings > Siri, and when you’re past the waitlist, you’ll see a Try New Siri option; tap it.
Now tap Continue > Continue on the Siri with Apple Intelligence splash screens.
You’ll now see a ‘Siri (Beta). Powered by Apple Intelligence…’ screen. You’re ready to use the refreshed version of Siri with an all-new animation and the new Siri app.
Invoke the new Siri using how you did in the past or by swiping down from the top of the Dynamic Island. Speak or type your query to use the new Siri.
You’ll also find the new Siri app on the Home Screen. Open it and tap the new chat button to use it like an AI chatbot.
