Rumor: Updated Time Capsules to Become Personal iCloud Servers

By Alex Heath on Jun 5, 2011

An interesting rumor is claiming that Apple will update their Time Capsule at WWDC in conjunction with the announcement of iCloud. Specifically, it’s rumored that the new Time Capsule will act as a personal server for media to be stored on a specific iCloud account.

Apple’s Time Capsule currently acts as a wireless backup/router utility for Macs on a home network. After tomorrow’s keynote, a new version of the Time Capsule could allow you to archive and store files on iCloud for storage. The Time Capsule’s iCloud archives would be available for access on iOS devices… Read More

Apple Paid the Labels $150 Million to Make iCloud Happen

By Guest Author on Jun 3, 2011

Ever wondered what it’s going to cost Apple to bring your iCloud dreams to life? Well, according to the New York Post, Apple is paying the record labels a combined total of around $150 million for the rights to stream their music through the iCloud service – add that to the price of its new North Carolina data center and you have a pretty hefty sum.

Apple finalized its iCloud negotiations earlier this week after it struck a deal with Universal Music Group – the last of the four major record labels to sign up to the iCloud service. It has now also secured deals with the corresponding publishers just in time for its unveiling – and possible launch – at WWDC on Monday… Read More

AT&T Running Out of Black iPhone 4, iPhone 5 Coming Out Soon?

By Sebastien Page on Jun 2, 2011

Wow oh oh. This is probably the most exciting news of the day, even though it doesn’t look like much on the surface. If you look at AT&T’s website right now, you’ll see that they are running out of black iPhone 4s.

They do have the white iPhone 4, and they even have refurbished black iPhone 4, but no new ones. What can that possibly mean? Maybe a new iPhone 5 coming out real soon? Read More

Universal Music Joins Apple’s iCloud Gang

By Guest Author on Jun 2, 2011

Well, that makes four, folks! Apple has now secured a deal with Universal Music Group that grants access to the company’s music through Apple’s upcoming iCloud service. Universal is the last of the four major labels to sign up, with EMI, Sony and Warner joining the gang over the last few weeks.

Although it did not mention that music features would be part of the service, Apple did confirm that the iCloud service would be announced at WWDC on Monday, and if recent speculation is correct, we may soon be able to say goodbye to all the music files that take up valuable storage on our iOS devices and stream our favorite tracks from the cloud instead… Read More

Apple Takes Over iCloud.com, Big Things Coming Monday

By Alex Heath on Jun 2, 2011

Apple has taken complete ownership of the domain iCloud.com. After announcing that Steve Jobs would unveil Apple’s “upcoming cloud services offering” Monday at WWDC, Cupertino has sealed the deal by totally taking over the new service’s web address.

The media jumped on the name “iCloud” awhile ago when it was discovered that Apple was looking to buy the iCloud.com domain. Now the deal is done, and iCloud is almost a reality. Read More

Silverback iPhone 4S Travelling Around Australia?

By Guest Author on Jun 1, 2011

If you’re determined not to give up hope on Steve Jobs announcing a swanky new iPhone at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference next week, then we’ve got something to keep your dream alive.

Twitter user Sebastien Peek (@SebastienPeek) posted a message earlier today claiming “a contact” had seen a truck containing iPhone 4S prototypes making its way to Sydney, Australia. How did he know they weren’t the iPhone 4? Because instead of black or white glass rear panels, they had silver backs similar to the iPod touch…

Twitter Integration Coming to iOS 5

By Alex Heath on May 31, 2011

With WWDC and iOS 5 right around the corner, it appears that Apple will be focusing more on social integration. We’ve heard rumors of a ‘MediaStream‘ service from Apple that would allow you to view and share photos with your friends, and now it appears that Twitter will be integrated in iOS 5.

Instead of opening your favorite Twitter client to upload and share a photo, you could send a photo to Twitter directly from the iPhone’s Camera app… Read More

Everything You Need to Know About the Mysterious iCloud

By Alex Heath on May 31, 2011

Apple issued a very unusual press release earlier today that outlined what would be announced at the World Wide Developer’s Conference next Monday, June 6th. Steve Jobs will be speaking and talking about Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5, and the newly-confirmed ‘iCloud service.

Apple’s press release was unusual because it was oddly descriptive. Even though nothing was actually said about iCloud, Apple still bothered to state that iCloud, an unreleased product, would be part of the WWDC lineup.

When has Apple ever stated the name of an unreleased product in a press release? Why would the company do so? Read More

Wait Until After WWDC to Renew Your MobileMe Subscription

By Alex Heath on May 31, 2011

If you’ve been contemplating the $99/year renewal of your MobileMe account, you should probably hold off for a little while longer. Unless you’re totally reliant on MobileMe and your account is about to expire, wait until after WWDC next week.

Apple is planning on doing something big with its cloud services, and MobileMe will most definitely be a piece of the puzzle. The MobileMe features that you use now (email services, calendar sync, etc.) will most likely be free services from Apple very soon… Read More

Rumor: iPhone 4S This Summer With A5 Chip, 8MP Camera, GSM/CDMA Support, Integrated SIM

By Alex Heath on May 31, 2011

With WWDC right around the corner, the last, pre-summer iPhone rumors are coming in fast and strong. The latest one seems a little far fetched, but it does make some interesting claims about hardware announcements we’ll see from Apple this year.

Instead of an iPhone release this fall, Macotakara claims that the ‘iPhone 4S‘ will be released this summer, and that the iPhone 5 will be released in spring of 2012. The iPhone 4S will supposedly be a minor upgrade from the iPhone 4 (like the 3G/3GS), while the iPhone 5 will be a complete revamp. Sound crazy to you? Read More

Will the iPhone Nano Look Like This?

By Alex Heath on May 28, 2011

Talk of a cheaper, perhaps contract-free ‘iPhone Nano‘ has been circulating for several months now. With WWDC on the near horizon, and an iPhone announcement expected this fall, there’s plenty of speculation surrounding Apple’s next gen iPhone.

Will Apple release the typical, evolutionary upgrade to the current iPhone 4? Or will things get changed up with two new iPhone models released at once? Read More

Now tech blogs are reporting that media members from down under have just received similar last-minute invitations. While Apple has made some huge announcements at the conference in the past, this year was expected to be less spectacular… Read More

Apple’s Cloud Server May Mirror User Libraries, no Uploading Needed

By Cody Lee on May 27, 2011

There has been a huge increase in iCloud gossip over the last month or so. The music industry has been a fairly leaky faucet throughout these final weeks of Apple’s rumored negotiations. We’ve now heard that 3 out of the 4 major music labels have agreed to Apple’s iCloud conditions.

Though these extended talks have kept the Cupertino company from being the first to market, it’s reported that their choice of acquiring the proper music licenses could take them to the top. If that’s the case, then what could be so special about Apple’s cloud service? Read More

Maybe that’s just what Apple wants you to think. Rumor or not, this is the first bit of speculation we’ve seen in a while that points to a hardware announcement at Apple’s WWDC event next month. Could it be true? Read More

iOS 5 May Not Support iPhone 3GS

By Guest Author on May 24, 2011

As Apple continues to improve upon its iPhone with speedy processors and powerful software, it’s only natural that at some point older devices will get left behind. The iPhone 3G had its nose pushed out with the release of iOS 4.3 earlier this year, and with iOS 5 just around the corner, the iPhone 3GS could be next.

According to Eldar Murtazin, the editor-in-chief of the Russian blog Mobile-Review, iOS 5 will not be compatible with devices released before the iPhone 4… Read More

Expect iPhone 5 to Ship in September

By Alex Heath on May 23, 2011

As the industry tries to reach some sort of consensus on when Apple will release the next generation iPhone 5, another report affirms the growing possibility of a September launch.

Famed analyst, Gene Munster, has offered the most logical explanation to date for an iPhone 5 announcement this fall. We’ve already heard analyst after analyst claim varying ship dates and reasons for a certain time frame, but Munster’s reasoning seems the most legitimate… Read More
