Water-resistant iPhone 6 concept envisions wireless charging, notification LEDs and more

By Christian Zibreg on May 21, 2013

Here’s another next-generation iPhone concept, one that envisions a number of features unlikely to make their way into the handset. That of course didn’t prevent designers Uygar Kaya and Ran Avni from dreaming up the ultimate water and dust-resistant smartphone with notification LEDs, a full HD 1,920-by-1,080 widescreen display, 13-megapixel camera, touch-sensitive volume rocker, wireless charging and front-facing stereo speakers – all encases in an ultra-slim aluminum shell… Read More

Another concept imagines iOS 7 running on next-gen iPhone

By Christian Zibreg on May 16, 2013

Following recent budget iPhone concept by Martin Hajek (itself based on nice iOS 7 mockups by 3D artist Dámaso Benítez), German blog Apfellike.de yesterday shared a similar rendition by Jürgen Ulbrich. Like many 3D artists before him, Dámaso is striving to envision what iOS 7 running on the next iPhone might look like. I’m liking his work a lot and have included a few images and a nice video mockup right after the break… Read More

Martin Hajek’s new concept pictures budget iPhone running revamped iOS 7

By Christian Zibreg on May 14, 2013

The renderings use Hajek’s past budget iPhone concepts as the basis for the hardware. As for the software, he incorporated a round of nice concepts by 3D artist Dámaso Benítez, picturing a flattened iOS 7 user interface that Apple’s design head Jony Ive and his team are widely believed to be working on.

His mockups, Hajek explains on his personal blog, serve to illustrate “how Apple might introduce the new, cheap iPhone.” More awesomeness can be found right past the fold… Read More

New iOS 7 concept depicts Zen-like simplicity

By Christian Zibreg on May 10, 2013

Another day, another iOS 7 concept. In an attempt to depict what Jony Ive-ified, flattened user interface in iOS 7 might look like, digital agency Simply Zesty created this elaborate concept.

The video focuses on a clean look UI and pictures Lock screen widgets, a revamped Notification Center as well as a beautiful new Windows Phone ‘Metro’-fied stock apps like Calendar, Music, Siri and Camera.

I love the cleaner Notification Center with animated widgets. If that’s the future of iOS 7, then I’m very much looking forward to it… Read More

New iOS 7 concept features flat UI, Dashboard and more

By Cody Lee on May 4, 2013

There’s been no shortage of iOS 7 mockups over the past few months, as folks try to guess what Apple’s next generation mobile OS will look like. And recent reports that Jony Ive is leading a massive UI overhaul has given designers even more fodder.

But one concept in particular, by Mohamed Kerroudj, seems to be getting a little more attention than others. We showed you two videos from the series last month, and this weekend he’s uploaded a third one that involves a new Dashboard feature… Read More

New iOS 7 concept shows off quick reply, widgets and other features

By Cody Lee on Apr 5, 2013

Word has it that iOS 7 is going be receiving a system-wide makeover, courtesy of the human interface team’s new leader Jony Ive. The changes are reportedly so big that developers with ‘carry’ privileges have a filter on their devices to conceal them.

Of course, we won’t know what iOS 7 really looks like until Apple unveils it this summer. But that’s not going to stop designers from creating concepts that illustrate what they think it could look like. And we’ve got another great one for you today… Read More

webOS-inspired iOS 7 multitasking concept

By Christian Zibreg on Mar 25, 2013

Remember webOS? Say what you will about Palm, but the HP-acquired firm has pioneered what’s arguably the most efficient implementation of multitasking on a mobile device to this date (no jailbreak required, of course). For those not in the know, the webOS multitasking metaphor is a stack of cards which represents your running tasks.

Each card can be moved around, dismissed and manipulated with a flick of your finger. It’s a remarkably fun and engaging solution to efficiently interact with your apps, one which gets the job done while moving out of the way. Designer Jesse Head took that idea and applied it to the problematic iOS multitasking tray, replacing the boring grid of icons with app tiles sporting nearly full-screen live previews. It appears as useful as it’s gorgeous to look at, no? Read More

iOS 7 concept visualizes all-new UI for Lock screen, notifications and more

By Cody Lee on Mar 20, 2013

Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference is coming up in a few months, and with new leadership in place, a lot of folks are hoping to see some major changes in iOS 7. Many critics feel like the platform is long overdue for a makeover.

And this prospect has led to the creation of several impressive mockups and renderings of what some hope to see from Apple in the future. Today’s concept is no different, as it visualizes some beautiful, all-new UI components for iOS… Read More

Polycarbonate budget iPhone renderings to die for

By Christian Zibreg on Mar 18, 2013

Another publication has commissioned Dutch concept artist Martin Hajek to bundle all the less-pricey iPhone rumors together in some plausible renderings. The 3D designer’s fresh batch of conceptual renderings imagine the rumored device in two flavors, one with a screen measuring four inches diagonally and the other sporting a larger 4.5-inch display.

Hajek took into account credible talk of the budget iPhone adopting a polycarbonate shell, having combined that rumor with analysts speculating about some vivid colors, too. If you ever though using plastics would ruin the iPhone brand with unwanted and cheap feel to it, have a look at the images and think again… Read More

New iOS 7 concepts: actionable Notification Center, better Safari

By Christian Zibreg on Mar 15, 2013

What better way to sign off as my weekend starts than a fresh batch of iOS concepts which imagine the capabilities Apple should have long implemented? Above is Shaik Imaduddin’s mockup of a more interactive iOS Notification Center with actionable alerts where you could, say, delete email messages, mark them as read and send new ones, all without ever leaving your iPhone’s Notification Center.

Very doable and frankly, even Android isn’t currently doing that. He’s also envisioning making phone calls, responding to text messages (existing tweaks address this) and setting alerts in Reminders to call back a person. The latter makes me wonder how on Earth Apple missed combining Reminders with the Phone app. I’ve also included a nice iOS 7 Safari mockup right past the fold… Read More

Here’s an iTV concept Jony Ive would approve of

By Christian Zibreg on Mar 13, 2013

Resident Apple mockup artist Martin Hajek is on a roll lately. Just a day following his publication of the traditional iWatch concept which adorns the April 2013 cover of the MacUser magazine, he’s back at it with a new Apple television mockup that has Jony Ive written all over it. The beautiful renderings are based on the familiar iMac look and sport the sinister black design, with details reminiscent of the iPhone 5. Go past the fold for the full awesomeness… Read More

Fresh iPhone 6 mockups call for a 4.6-inch edge-to-edge display

By Christian Zibreg on Mar 4, 2013

Martin Hajek, a 3D artist well-regarded for his mockups of future gadgets, is back at it again, this time with a fresh batch of renditions depicting what an iPhone 6 with a 4.6-inch screen might look like. He’s calling for an edge-to-edge screen assembly – which in his vision looks just stellar – and the aluminum Unibody chassis with anodized black and silver back.

It’s kinda like a cross between the iPad’s back shell and the iPhone 5′s two-tone design. Notice the ultra thin bezels and the lack of the Home button… Read More

New iWatch concept takes a more traditional approach

By Cody Lee on Feb 20, 2013

As reports claiming that Apple is working on a wristwatch-like device continue to swirl, and subsequent speculation grows, concept artists have taken to their digital palettes to create their own versions of the so-called ‘iWatch.’

We’ve already seen a handful of these Apple-watch mockups—most of which feature curved glass displays and futuristic designs. But today, we’ve come across a concept that takes a far more traditional wristwatch approach… Read More

Papercraft mockup makes the case for iPhablet

By Christian Zibreg on Feb 19, 2013

Conflicting rumors signify an iPhablet, a nearly five-inch iPhone, may be released either some time in 2013 or during the summer of 2014. Speculation of a new form factor brings along a theory that Apple could simply blow up the display while keeping the iPhone 5′s 1,136-by-640 pixel resolution, presumably making developers’ life easier. But there’s a catch to enlarging the display without boosting its resolution: density of the pixels would drop from the Retina iPhone 326ppi to just 264ppi.

Though likely insufficient for the Retina moniker, that particular pixel density conveniently matches up with the the full-sized iPad’s 264ppi Retina display. In order to better illustrate what an iPhone with a display this large would feel in your hand, MacRumors has enlisted the creative talent of CiccareseDesign to come up with a papercraft five-inch iPhone mockup… Read More

How hi-tech curved glass could be used for an iWatch

By Christian Zibreg on Feb 18, 2013

Even though there certainly is no shortage of iWatch rumors these days, we’re kinda short on new mockups. Thanks to the United Kingdom’s The Guardian newspaper which yesterday published this detailed mockup, there’s something to chew on on this slow news Monday (it’s Presidential’s Day holiday in the United States).

We already reported on how former Apple exec Jean-Louis Gassée thinks the iWatch is an intimate computer rather than a smart watch with a twist. We also know from Bloomberg that Apple reportedly has a 100-engineer strong team working on the project. Taking it all in, The Guardian newspaper thinks Apple’s take on the Dick Tracy watch takes advantage of recent developments in hi-tech curved glass, cheaper sensors and better voice recognition software… Read More

New theory makes a case for a larger iPhone

By Cody Lee on Feb 1, 2013

It’s easy to write off the recent rumors of the iPhone Plus (English translation of ‘iPhone Math’) as ‘crazy.’ After all, Apple just increased the iPhone’s screen size to 4-inches last year, why would they go to 4.9-inches now and force developers to redesign their apps again?

Well according to the latest theory to make its way around the blogosphere, they wouldn’t necessarily have to. Apple could theoretically make an iPhone with a 4.94-inch display, while keeping the iPhone 5′s resolution, and developers wouldn’t have to change a thing… Read More

New concept spices up Lockscreen with widgets and new unlock action

By Cody Lee on Jan 23, 2013

Users have been voicing their disdain for Apple’s decision to stay the course with iOS for years. The operating system, albeit the addition of the App Store and a few new features, has remained largely unchanged since its introduction.

That disdain has sparked a number of iOS-related concepts, and we’ve just come across a new mockup. In an effort to change things up a bit, it adds widgets, toggles and a new unlocking mechanism to your iPhone’s Lockscreen… Read More

Concept video shows what a 4.8-inch iPhone could look like

By Cody Lee on Jan 22, 2013

Amidst growing speculation that Apple is working on a larger handset, a Russian site has created this mockup of what it believes a bigger iPhone could look like. Created from details in the recent ‘iPhone Math’ rumor, the device has a 4.8-inch display and 12MP camera.

Contrary to other iPhone concepts, which typically travel outside the realm of possibility, this one opts to stay within the lines of Apple’s current design schemes. It looks like the iPhone 5, but its footprint has been both lengthened and widened to support the larger display… Read More

Here’s a budget iPhone concept with a 3.5-inch display

By Cody Lee on Jan 16, 2013

Apple is expected to make a few changes to its mobile lineup this year. For the iPad, it’s expected to revamp the 9.7-inch model making it thinner and lighter, with smaller bezels. On the iPhone side, it’s expected to release a new budget model.

As with all new product rumors, artists are using their skills and creativity to create mockups of what these things could possibly look like. We showed you some earlier today of the next-gen iPad, and now we have some of the rumored ‘iPhone mini.’ Read More

Mockup time: iPad 5 with iPad mini style skinnier side bezels

By Christian Zibreg on Jan 16, 2013

Remember ahead of last September’s iPad mini introduction, when a great deal of shabby renderings tried to depict what the device might look like?

It wasn’t until designer Martin uit Utrecht set out to create some beautiful mockups that we started believing that the iPad mini would indeed become a smash hit for the Cupertino, California firm.

Also behind some pretty darn accurate renderings of the then-unreleased iPhone 5, Martin’s now back at it with a bunch of new renderings done in Rhinoceros 3D, depicting what a full-size iPad 5 with the reportedly skinnier side bezels might look like. Go right past the fold for some more beautiful mockups… Read More
