How to background the Mobile Terminal app

MobileTerm Backgrounder is a brand new jailbreak tweak that allows you to maintain a persistent connection to the Mobile Terminal app. If you've used Mobile Terminal in the past, then you know how frustrating it can be to close out of the app, return, and all of your previous data disappears. MobileTerm Backgrounder is a tweak that works with the jailbroken Mobile Terminal app, and it makes it much easier to continue where you left off when switching between apps. Have a look at our video walkthrough inside to see its ins and outs.

Thor: The Dark World coming to iOS this fall

Gameloft and Marvel announced the official tie-in game for the upcoming Thor sequel this weekend. It's called 'Thor: The Dark World - The Official Game' (that's it's real name), and it will be arriving on iOS and Android platforms this November.

We don't know much about the game, outside of its title. But judging by this trailer Gameloft posted this afternoon, it looks like it's going to feature gorgeous graphics, and the usual hack-and-slash gameplay. We've posted the clip after the fold...

‘SmartSearch’ places Google results directly within Spotlight

What would it be like to receive instant query results from Google directly from within iOS's stock Spotlight search? A new tweak entitled SmartSearch provides a few clues as to what that might be like. It's far from a perfect execution of the idea, but it's an interesting idea nonetheless. Have a look at our video walkthrough, which shows SmartSearch in action.

Add album art to your iPhone’s wallpaper with ‘HomeArtwork’

HomeArtwork is a newly released jailbreak tweak, which takes the "now playing" album artwork and uses it as wallpaper for the Home screen background. The tweak works with the stock Music app, but I'm also happy to report that it plays nice with streaming services like Spotify. HomeArtwork is a great tweak that allows you to constantly switch up the look of your Home screen wallpaper. Check out our video coverage inside...

Researcher claims he alerted Apple of developer center vulnerability

As you've probably heard by now, Apple's developer center was hacked. The portal has been down for over 4 days now, as the company says it is completely overhauling its systems, updating its server software, and rebuilding its entire database.

A statement from Apple claims ‘an intruder’ attempted to secure personal information about developers from the site, but it provided no further details about the incident. Now, a security researcher is claiming responsibility for the attack...

Screen recording app xRec hits App Store, works on non-jailbroken devices

Capturing a video of whatever is on the screen of your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad in real-time normally requires a jailbroken device and one of useful Cydia apps such as ScreenRecorder or Display Recorder by Ryan Petrich.

Official App Store solutions are unfortunately far and few between. And even when such an app does slip past the App Store approval team, it's only briefly.

Tapping iOS video recording APIs, xRec by developer Akın Öğünç lets you easily capture contents of your iDevice's screen, without having to jailbreak or cheat by hooking up your device to a computer to use a desktop screen capture software instead...

Preview: Auxo’s new Slim Mode

If you know me, then you know that I love Auxo; it's one of my favorite jailbreak tweaks and I use it on my daily driver. Auxo is great, because it offers a redesigned app switcher, toggles, and the ability to easily kill apps using gestures. Perhaps the biggest feature of Auxo is its ability to present full previews of apps in the app switcher.

While most users enjoy the privilege of having full app previews, due to the ability to gain context as to what's running on the device, some have balked at the feature. Their beef stems from the fact that the app switcher takes up too much space with Auxo installed, or that it's difficult to quickly identify what's running. Well, folks; the creators behind Auxo have a solution to what ails you. Introducing Auxo's brand new Slim Mode.

Forgetting about Surface disaster, Microsoft’s ad people take another jab at iPad

Microsoft just doesn't skip a beat when it comes to its fantasy that the Surface rivals Apple's iPad. Never mind the software giant had to reduce prices on its tablet because no one is buying the device. Never mind Thursday the company took a $900M writedown on those cheaper Surfaces that no one wants.

To mark all the features the Surface has (which no one except paid actors apparently want), the Redmond-based Windows giant has released another sneering ad pitting its tablet against Apple's. This is what lesser-known brands quite often do as they strive to piggy-back on the popularity of the Apple brand...

Fruit Ninja creators tease new game ‘Colossatron: Massive World Threat’

Gamers will be happy to hear that Halfbrick, the creators of popular iOS titles like Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, have a new game coming out. The studio made quite a bit of commotion when it made the announcement yesterday at PAX Australia.

The game is called Colossatron: Massive World Threat, and it's a tower defense-esque title that has you managing a massive robotic snake known as the—you guessed it—Colossatron. And you essentially have one goal: destroy as much stuff as you can...

VLC media player makes a comeback, following a 2-year App Store hiatus

Following a range of issues with copyright holders that had forced the team to pull it from the App Store some two years ago, the popular video player VLC has returned to Apple's platform as a brand new iPhone and iPad app.

Re-written from the ground up to take advantage of modern technologies, the new VLC brings with it a refined user interface that's reminiscent of the original release and features such as subtitles and support for multi-core decoding and a bunch of iOS-unfriendly media formats, including .mkv files.
