Apple’s Phil Schiller Endorses Flipboard for iPhone, App Already Installed on 1 in 10 iPads

We told you about the release of Flipboard's highly-anticpated iPhone app last night, and the release has been rocking the blogosphere this morning. Flipboard is such a big deal that even Apple's own Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Phil Schiller, has endorsed the app on his public Twitter account.

Flipboard's success on the iPad is also phenomenal, as the app has already been download 4.5 million times and is currently installed on 1 in every 10 iPads.

FireCore Releases Major Update for aTV Flash

Even though jailbreaking hasn't done much for the Apple TV what it has for the other iDevices, it still has made quite an impact. FireCore's aTV Flash (Black) application is a perfect example of that, adding several features to the popular media hub.

For those not familiar with the software, aTV Flash is a jailbreak application for the Apple TV 2 that includes a web browser and support for streaming dozens of file formats. It is the app for Apple TV jailbreakers, and it just received a major update...

Ac1dSn0w Beta 2 Jailbreak Tool Released, Fixes Copyright Infringement Issues

The Pwn Dev Team has released a major update to their jailbreak tool, Ac1dSn0w. The tool was made available to the world a couple of weeks ago as an alternative to other apps for jailbreaking, like RedSn0w and PwnageTool.

Ac1dSn0w Beta 2 supposedly fixes the copyright infringement issues that the original beta possessed. The download file size has also been significantly reduced from over 100MB to about 11MB.

iFaith SHSH Tool Receives Major Update

Infamous iOS hacker and Sn0wBreeze creator iH8sn0w just released a major update for his iFaith application. Like TinyUmbrella, iFaith allows you to save your device's SHSH blobs, which are needed to preserve your ability to downgrade firmware in the future.

The update supports iOS versions up to 5.0.1, but isn't yet compatible with A5 iDevices. There also doesn't seem to be a Mac version available. But if you own an A4 device and have access to a Windows computer, we highly recommend you download the new iFaith...

Chronic Dev Team: We’ve Already Received Over 10 Million Crash Reports From Jailbreak Supporters

Front man for the Chronic Dev Team, Joshua Hill (also known as p0sixninja), has announced a landmark number of crash reports that have already been submitted to his team. The Chronic Dev Team recently released an app that collects iOS crash reports in iTunes and sends them to the team's private servers to help find exploits for the future iOS 5 untethered jailbreak.

After only one week, the team of hackers has collected over 10 million crash reports from jailbreak supporters worldwide. Joshua and the rest of the Chronic Dev Team are working to parse the crash report data to help create a stable untethered jailbreak for Apple's iOS 5.

TinyUmbrella Updated With Support For iOS 5.1 Beta

TinyUmbrella, the utility used to save your iOS device's SHSH blobs for future firmware downgrades, has just been updated to support the recently released iOS 5.1 beta.

Even though we've warned jailbreakers not to update past iOS 5.0, and there's currently no way to downgrade, it's always a good idea to have your iDevices' SHSH blobs on file...

iOS 5.1 Disables Home Screen Settings Shortcuts

Earlier this month, we showed you how to create home screen shortcuts for Settings toggles without jailbreaking. The method has become quite popular over the last few weeks, catching the attention of UI designers like Jeff Broderick.

Given that there's no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5, and no jailbreak for the new iPhone 4S at all, a lot of folks have started using these shortcuts as a temporary replacement for SBSettings. And if you're one of those users, you may not want to update to iOS 5.1...

Siri0us Removed From Cydia While Developer Finds Another Voice Recognition Service

Siri0us, the jailbreak tweak that allows iPhone 4, 3GS, and iPod touch owners to use Siri dictation, has been pulled from the Cydia store. We exclusively showed you Siri0us in action a couple of days ago, and many have started using the hack to use a Nuance-flavored version of Siri's dictation feature on older iDevices.

After the Siri0us servers experienced several outages due to high traffic over the last 48 hours, the developer, Eric Day, has removed Siri0us from Cydia. Eric is looking for a different voice recognition service that he can use legally in his tweak.

“Change Package Settings” – An Overlooked Feature in Cydia

Have you ever uninstalled a tweak from Cydia, but still found yourself interested in any updates it might receive in the future? Perhaps it's a tweak that has potential, but it's just not finished baking yet.

By default, Cydia does not announce changes for a package that isn't installed on your device. That's a good thing, because it prevents you from being harassed by tweaks and apps that you have no interest in.

If you've found yourself in that scenario, the best thing you can do is to enable a little talked about option that announces updates to a package, regardless of whether or not you have it installed...

Apple Seeds iOS 5.1 Beta to Developers

Apple has just seeded the iOS 5.1 beta to developers a little over a month after releasing iOS 5. As most of you are aware, the software was crippled right out of the gate with a number of issues, including poor battery performance and Wi-Fi problems.

Two weeks ago, Apple finally released iOS 5.0.1 to the public after multiple developer betas. The new software was supposed to patch the battery bug, but the company later admitted that it didn't completely resolve the issue. Will iOS 5.1 finally fix these flaws?

Ac1dSn0w Jailbreak Tool Contains Copyrighted Code [Updated]

Earlier today we reported on the recently released iOS 5 jailbreak tool called Ac1dSn0w. The Mac-only utility came from the Pwn Dev Team, who aren't as highly regarded as the Dev and Chronic Dev teams, but they're well-known.

With that in mind, we posted a tutorial, as we always do, on how to jailbreak your iOS 5 device using the new software. We've since learned that Ac1dSn0w contains Apple's copyrighted code, so therefore it's illegal to use...

Dev Team Working on “Very Promising” iPhone 4S Unlock

Dev Team frontman and unlock guru MuscleNerd has given an update on a new unlock for the newly-released iPhone 4S. According to MuscleNerd, a "very promising" unlock for the new handset is "in the works."

While iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 owners with older basebands have been able to unlock after jailbreaking for awhile now, there's a whole set of newer basebands waiting for an UltraSn0w update.
