Apple Seeds Updates for the Apple TV and iPhone 4S

Apple has been on a roll this week with software updates, seeding iOS 5.1 beta 2 to developers and iTunes 10.5.2 to the masses. Now the company has just released two more software updates for iOS devices.

The first is for the Apple TV 2, bringing the device to iOS 4.4.4. The update appears to just contain minor improvements, as no new features have been discovered yet. And the second is for the iPhone 4S.

iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak Done For All A4 Devices

The entire jailbreak community has its eyes on pod2g right now. The Chronic Dev Team-affiliated iOS hacker has shown a lot of progress over the last few weeks in his efforts to create an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak.

Pod2g has demonstrated a working untethered jailbreak on a third-generation iPod touch running the latest iOS software, and recently confirmed it to work on the iPhone 4. Now he's added several more devices to the list.

Apple Releases iTunes 10.5.2 With iTunes Match Fixes

Apple released iTunes 10.5.1 alongside its long-awaited iTunes Match service last month. And even though the company gave itself an extra two weeks to work on the product, a lot of users have complained that iTunes Match is still rather buggy.

Apple is obviously aware of the issue and has just released an update to the service by way of iTunes 10.5.2. The new software claims that it contains fixes for both iTunes Match and a known CD-related audio distortion problem.

Apple Seeds iOS 5.1 Beta 2 to Developers

Apple has released iOS 5.1 beta 2 to developers. The update comes exactly two weeks after the company seeded the original version of the iOS 5.1 beta.

The new software is expected to feature a number of bug fixes and additions, including a sufficient patch for the long-time running battery bug and a rumored Siri enhancement. We've got the full change log...

We've received more information regarding the current status of the iOS 5 jailbreak. Famous hacker pod2g has just announced that he has successfully jailbroken his iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1.

More importantly, the jailbreak is untethered — something we were previously concerned about regarding 5.0.1. We found out that an untethered jailbreak was possible a few days ago, and now it's been confirmed as working on the iPhone 4.

Apple Opens Up Apple TV Show Streaming to Canada, Australia, and UK

Earlier this year, Apple seeded iOS 4.3 for Apple TV owners. Among the update's new features was the ability to stream previously-purchased TV shows from iTunes to the living room via Apple's new iCloud service.

For some reason though the feature has been limited to folks inside the US... until now. Reports are coming in that Apple has finally opened up pre-purchased TV show streaming to Apple TV owners in other countries...
