LinkedIn app updated with new search and discovery features

LinkedIn has updated its native iOS app this afternoon, bringing it to version 6.1. This is the first substantial update the social network has posted for its mobile client since it was completely overhauled back in April.

Today's release includes a number of improvements, but perhaps the biggest change is the new search feature. Users can now use the app to find and discover people, jobs, companies and groups. More after the fold...

Activator gains scheduled actions in 1.8 RC release

Jailbreak developer Ryan Petrich has been extremely busy lately, adding new features to his Activator tweak. In this month alone, he's seeded beta updates that add flick icon gestures, custom email events and shutter actions, and collapsible menus.

And as you've probably guessed by now, Petrich posted another new version of Activator this weekend. This time the update, which brings the tweak to version 1.8 RC, includes the ability to schedule standard actions in iOS to occur at certain times...

Flipboard updated with support for Instagram video

Flipboard users will be happy to hear that the app has just been updated with support for Instagram's new video feature. Facebook's popular video sharing service can now capture and post video clips up to 15-seconds in length.

And with the latest Flipboard update, which brings the app to version 2.0.4, you can now open and view these videos within the application. The update also includes new ways to share magazines, and the usual array of bug fixes...

GV Mobile + updated with Google Voice VoIP calling and new interface

Good news Google Voice users. One of the more popular clients for the service, GV Mobile +, has just received a significant update with several new features and improvements, including an all new interface and support for making free VoIP calls.

The GV client has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, bringing the app to version 3.0, with a new UI that appears to be designed to fit in with the new iOS 7 aesthetic, and the ability to make free phone calls that won't use your minutes...

Tweetbot updated with support for Instagram video

Facebook caused quite a commotion last week when they unveiled a new Instagram feature that allows you to capture and post 15-second videos. It was an instant hit, prompting users to upload more than 5 million clips in just 24 hours.

My Twitter stream has since been flooded with Instagram videos, posted by everyone from celebrities to tech pundits. And unfortunately, because I use Tweetbot, I haven't been able to watch them in-app. But that changed this afternoon...

Twitter updates #music app with new discovery charts and options

Twitter has been relatively quiet about its #music app since it launched back in April. But now that Apple is getting into the music discovery business, and companies like Rdio are following suit, it felt it had to step up its game.

And it starts today, with an update to its iOS #music app that adds new dimensions to its popular discovery engine. You can now browse for new music via genre, like hip hop or country, and there are new 'top charts' to explore...

Digg app updated with support for new Google Reader replacement

Shortly after Google announced that it would be shutting down Google Reader, social news site Digg announced that it would be building a replacement RSS aggregator that would utilize the best of Reader's features and sync with existing 3rd party clients.

Then, earlier this month, the Digg team announced that it was finishing up work on the first version of its Reader replacement, and that it would start rolling out to users on June 26. And last night, it made good on its promise via an update to its iOS app...

Mailbox app updated with landscape mode for iPhone, Gmail alias support

A little over a week ago, the Mailbox team pushed out an app update that added support for portrait orientation mode on the iPad. It was a welcomed addition, but it left a lot of users wondering when the iPhone version would receive support for landscape mode.

The team promised that the feature was in the works, and last night it delivered on that promise by posting a new version of Mailbox to the App Store. The update, which brings the app to 1.3.2, includes support for iPhone landscape mode and other enhancements...

Google has posted a significant update for the iOS version of its Google Earth app today, bringing it to version 7.1.1. The update features a number of enhancements, including a revamped UI, improved directions and Street View.

Dropbox for iOS updated with new swipe actions and enhanced sharing

Since Dropbox gave its iOS app a huge makeover in December, the team has seeded a number of updates for the cloud-based client that enhances its abilities to manage and share user photos, videos and other content.

Foursquare app updated with the ability to check friends in and more

Good news this afternoon for all of you Foursquare users out there. The iOS app was updated today with a handful of new features and improvements. Users can now check in their friends (only with their permission of course) and there have been some handy adjustments made to the Explore tab, making it easier to discover new places...

Sony adds 320kbps streams and offline mode to Music Unlimited app

Sony's Music Unlimited is still relatively new to iOS. The app, which requires a subscription to the like-named service, just launched on the iPhone last year, giving similar streaming offerings like Spotify and Rdio at least a two year head start on the platform.
