T-Mobile customers hoping for a chance to carry the iPhone have had a rough last couple of months. First of all, rumors that the carrier would be offering Apple's handset this year have been effectively debunked. And then there was that whole AT&T takeover debacle.

So it looks like T-Mobile subscribers will have to stick to carrying unlocked iPhones. This has been possible for years, but due to the lack of 3G data, it's kind of unpopular. However, a recent report says that 3G data is actually possible on an unlocked T-Mobile iPhone...

AT&T Withdraws T-Mobile Merger Application from FCC

Big news coming out of the Lone Star state today as Dallas-based wireless carrier AT&T has announced that it has withdrawn its T-Mobile merger application from the FCC. The operator was looking to buy the Deutsche Telekom-owned carrier for close to $40 billion dollars.

The merger deal has hit some major roadblocks over the last few months. In August, the Department of Justice filed a court complaint to block the buyout. Then yesterday, the FCC sided with the DOJ, requesting a formal administrative hearing into AT&T's proposal...

The AT&T/T-Mobile Merger Ain’t Looking Good

Besides Verizon, it looks like no one is in favor of the $39 billion AT&T/T-Mobile merger. According to AllThingsD's Ina Fried:

You can add the chairman and staff of the Federal Communications Commission to the list of those who believe AT&T’s deal to acquire T-Mobile USA would hurt competition. [...] FCC officials said on Tuesday that the agency found in its review not only that the deal would hurt competition, but also that it represents an unprecedented reduction in competition. In every market except Omaha (where T-Mobile does not offer service), the agency found that the merger would reduce competition to a meaningful degree.

Obviously AT&T is not giving up and they'll use every possible mean to have the deal go through. Some lawyer firms are about to make a lot of money!

T-Mobile Forecasts Low 4th Quarter Due to Lack of iPhone

In the months leading up to Apple's iPhone 4S announcement, the rumor mill had T-Mobile pegged as getting the handset. And with the country's number three carrier slated to receive the device, it made sense that number 4 would as well.

But on October 4, when Apple unveiled its latest smartphone, there was no mention of the operator. It isn't that T-Mobile isn't interested in carrying the smartphone, it's that Apple has yet to extend the offer. And the carrier will bleed customers because of it...

AT&T Expected to Merge With T-Mobile in “First Half” of Next Year

AT&T has leaked its estimation for when the T-Mobile merger will close in a recent filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Spotted by Electronista, the filing says that AT&T expects the merger to take place in the "first half" of 2012.

Several organizations, including the US Justice Department, have kept AT&T and T-Mobile battling with the courts since AT&T announced the acquisition back in March. If all goes according to plan, T-Mobile will be owned by AT&T before Spring of next year...

T-Mobile is the only main US carrier that doesn't carry the iPhone. It's currently unclear as to why Apple hasn't partnered with T-Mobile to sell the iPhone, but the most logical assumption would be that it has something to do with the AT&T/T-Mobile acquisition that is currently being reviewed by the FCC.

Meet the Fourth US Carrier for the iPhone 4S

It's just been announced that the iPhone 4S will be available on a fourth US carrier, and no, it's not T-Mobile. Oddly enough, C Spire Wireless, formerly known as Cellular South, will be launching Apple's next smartphone soon.

C Spire will join AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint as an iPhone partner in the US. T-Mobile remains left out in the cold...

Just like Verizon did last week, T-Mobile has submitted an amicus curiae to the court, officially siding with Samsung in its ongoing litigation against Apple. For the non-lawyers, an amicus curiae is when someone volunteers to offer information to assist a court in deciding on an issue.

T-Mobile's argument is similar to Verizon's. Both company don't want to see any of their best-selling 4G devices banned during the holiday season. Obviously, it would be a huge loss for the carriers, who generate a big chunk of revenue from this time of the year...

For the second time in one week, T-Mobile has made it pretty clear they it is not getting the iPhone this year.

With Sprint now rumored to get the iPhone, T-Mobile would be the last US carrier to not have a relationship with Apple. And it's not because they don't want it, as T-Mobile Chief Marketing Officer Cole Brodman said in an interview today...
