Sileo Team releases Sileo v1.0.9 with improvements to source handling

The Electra Team released an updated version of the Chimera jailbreak tool for iOS 12.0-12.1.2 just this morning with significant speed improvements regarding the jailbreak process (the point where the tool exploits your device); but the fun isn’t stopping there.

Shortly after releasing the latest version of Chimera, the CoolStar-led Sileo Team launched an updated iteration of the Sileo Package manager with bug fixes and improvements.

Electra Team releases Chimera v1.0.7 with a faster jailbreak process

Chimera jailbreak users are in for a treat this morning, as the CoolStar-led Electra Team has just released an updated version of the iOS 12.0-12.1.2-centric Chimera jailbreak tool with significant speed improvements to the jailbreak process.

The Electra Team shared the news of the updated Chimera jailbreak tool early this morning via Twitter, noting that version 1.0.7 was now the latest release:

Pwn20wnd updates unc0ver jailbreak to version 3.1.2 with more bug fixes

It was only yesterday that Pwn20wnd released unc0ver version 3.1.0 to the general public as “the biggest update to unc0ver yet,” but as it would seem, a few loose ends were found that needed tying.

Pwn20wnd followed up with two consecutive updates to the unc0ver jailbreak tool on Friday, subtly named version 3.1.1 and version 3.1.2. Each update purportedly incorporates bug fixes to stabilize some of the jailbreak’s app-centric features.

Apple stops signing iOS 12.2, preventing firmware downgrades from iOS 12.3

In a routine move by Apple on Thursday, the Cupertino-based tech company stopped signing the iOS 12.2 firmware for its mobile lineup of devices, a move that hinders the iTunes-centric downgrade process to any firmware older than the recently-released iOS 12.3 update.

Apple first released iOS 12.2 nearly two months ago, and iOS 12.3 has been publicly available for a little longer than a week at the time of this writing. Given the circumstances, Apple’s decision to discontinue downgrades to iOS 12.2 isn’t particularly surprising.

RememBear is the highly-rated app that solves your password problems

In a world where shopping, banking, subscriptions, takeout, and pretty much everything else has been taken over by the Internet, the idea of remembering dozens of passwords at any given moment is exhausting. What's worse, clicking the "I forgot my password" button at login and going through the motions of resetting it is tedious if not frustrating. Luckily, there's an app that can help.

Pwn20wnd says major unc0ver update will be released “within a few days”

It’s been approximately one month since hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd released unc0ver v3.0.1 to the general public, and there’ve been no subsequent updates to the jailbreak tool since. But that’s all about to change.

As we reported just last week, Pwn20wnd is planning to release a substantial update for unc0ver with a plethora of bug fixes and stability improvements. At the time, we knew very little about the upcoming update; but Pwn20wnd has been somewhat vocal as of late regarding what we can expect:

Sileo to remove support for webview-based depictions by December 2019

The Cydia vs. Sileo debate rages on, especially as there are now two competing jailbreaks for iOS 12 in addition to iOS 11 – the Electra Team’s Chimera jailbreak and Pwn20wnd’s unc0ver jailbreak.

While Chimera is the only jailbreak to offer full-fledged support for A12(X) devices out of the box, with unc0ver only ‘partially’ supporting A12(X) at the time of this writing, one significant caveat for many jailbreakers is that Chimera installs Sileo as the default package manager instead of Cydia.

Chimera v1.0.5 temporarily pulled by Electra Team due to issues

The Electra Team released an updated version of the iOS 12-centric Chimera jailbreak tool on Friday, bringing it up from version 1.0.4, which was released last week, to version 1.0.5 with some notable bug fixes and improvements.

Update: There've been several reports that this update causes a problem with A12(X) devices. We recommend holding off until this is addressed. The update was pulled shortly after release due to these circumstances. We expect that this will change soon after the problem is addressed.

A Tweet was shared via the Electra Team’s official Twitter account early this morning to announce the update:

KeenLab demos jailbreak on iPhone XS Max running iOS 12.2

The talented Liang Chen of security research group KeenLab has once again flexed his hacking prowess this week after showing off what is believed to be the first-known jailbreak demonstration to support iOS 12.2.

Chen’s video demonstration, which has been published on YouTube, demonstrates what appears to be an iPhone XS Max running iOS 12.2:

Sileo Team launches Sileo v1.0.3 with more speed improvements

If you’ve jailbroken your iOS 12.0-12.1.2 handset with the Electra Team’s all-new Chimera jailbreak tool and have been experiencing baffling sluggishness while using the Sileo app, then you might want to pay particular attention to the package manager’s latest update.

The Sileo Team has announced the release Sileo version 1.0.3 for both Chimera and Electra users just this evening via Twitter, an update that strives to boost Sileo’s performance by up to ten times for those who might be using more than 12 repositories at a time:

Should I jailbreak with Chimera, Electra, or unc0ver?

In case you’ve been living under a rock, there are now three major full-fledged jailbreak tools floating around in the wild: Chimera, Electra, and unc0ver. So which one should you be using?

Answering this question is challenging, and given the seemingly volatile state of the jailbreak community at the time of this writing, I’ve been hesitant to answer it; but I think it’s finally time, especially since folks now have more choices to pick from than ever before.
