Tweaks of the week: Multiplexer, PhotosLive, Seng, and more

Some of us got to play around with a new iPhone 6s this weekend, and surely, some ideas must have popped up in people's brains on how cool a jailbreak could be on this new device. Imagine the possibilities if Activator met 3D Touch for example! We're still left longing for such a treat, so in the meantime, lets just enjoy what we have now.

New tweak brings Live Photos to older iPhones running iOS 8

Live Photos is a new iPhone 6s exclusive feature that breathes new life into static photography. It works by shoehorning the photo in between video captured just prior and just after the photo is taken. The resulting effect is a "live" photo that moves on your screen, lending context to the photo at hand.

The new 3D Touch feature is used to activate Live Photos in the Photos app, and doubtlessly the iPhone 6s and Live Photos were made with each other in mind. That said, it doesn't mean that it's not possible to have a similar iteration of Live Photos on older hardware, as has just been proven by a new Cydia tweak.

Elias Limneos, a well known tweak developer who has releases like CallBar and BioProtect under his belt, just released PhotosLive—an impressive rendition of Apple's Live Photos for older jailbroken devices. The question is, how well does PhotosLive work?

Rumors swirl about a potential iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak

Over the last few hours, rumors have swirled on reddit and other places that we could see a jailbreak released for iOS 8.4.1. While I certainly can't vouch for the validity of these rumors, I am nonetheless intrigued by such a prospect.

Although the great new features found in iOS 9 would make it hard for me to personally backtrack to iOS 8, I understand that some of you would jump at the chance if it meant being able to jailbreak.

The good news is that if a jailbreak is released for iOS 8.4.1, everyone, at least as of this writing, can enjoy it. That's because Apple is still signing the iOS 8.4.1 firmware for all devices. When this will change is anyone's guess, but Apple usually closes its signing window for older firmware in relatively short order.

Seng: a new Auxo alternative now available on Cydia

It's been a big day for jailbreak releases. First, we had the highly anticipated Multiplexer land on Cydia, and now, we have Seng, another much-anticipated tweak, albeit less so than Multiplexer.

Seng, as we discussed back in in August, is a jailbreak tweak that's inspired by Auxo. Actually, just calling it "inspired" would be doing it a disservice; Seng is heavily influenced by Auxo.

After being in beta for nearly two months, Seng is now available for purchase on Cydia for $2.50. Should you consider taking a look at it?

Multiplexer, one of the deepest jailbreak tweaks ever, is now available on Cydia

Multiplexer, the six-in-one multitasking jailbreak tweak that we previewed back in August, is now available for purchase on Cydia.

Multiplexer brings six different jailbreak tweaks together as one, and each tweak could rightfully stand on its own as a separate download. In the package, you'll find Aura, Empoleon, Mission Control, Quick Access, Swipe Over, and the already well-know jailbreak tweak, Reach App.

All six of the tweaks join together to form one insanely deep package for multitasking on a jailbroken iPhone. Watch our video inside to get a preview of what to expect.

New tweak lets older iPhone hardware mimic 3D Touch

A new jailbreak tweak called Force Touch Activator was recently released on Cydia's BigBoss repo, and it lets users on older hardware running iOS 8 mimic the 3D Touch effect that's headlining the launch of the iPhone 6s.

Real 3D Touch requires a pressure sensitive screen, which is a part of the new hardware found in the new iPhone 6s. Older hardware, like the iPhone 6, lacks the pressure sensitive screen, so jailbreak tweak developers have to look for unique ways to try to bring similar functionality to older devices.

I'll be honest and say that Force Touch Activator is pretty much nothing like 3D Touch—you don't have the nuanced sensitivity levels, you don't have haptic feedback, and most importantly, you lack a true pressure sensitive screen—but it's an interesting tweak for jailbreakers to try nonetheless. Watch our hands-on video walkthrough inside, and see for yourself.

ForceTouchActivator, Phone++, and other jailbreak tweaks to check out today

Earlier this week we published a couple interviews featuring representatives of the BigBoss and ModMyi repo, talking about how they handle security once a tweak is submitted to them for review. If you haven't read these yet, we really suggest you take the time to peruse them as they provide details about how these repos work and do their best to make sure the tweaks you download are safe.

And speaking of tweaks, this week saw the release of a dozen or so tweaks. As always, some are more worthy of your interested than others. If you haven't refreshed Cydia all week, we save you time by listing all the new tweaks in one convenient place.
