Verizon Just a “Small Bang” in Overall iPhone Growth

When Apple unveiled the iPhone 4 on Verizon in February, everyone thought that the iPhone's cross-carrier distribution in the US would be the end of Android and other competitors. That hasn't been the case, as Verizon's adoption of the iPhone hasn't slowed AT&T sales of Apple's smartphone at all. Also, overall iPhone market share hasn't seen that impressive of an increase since Verizon picked up the iPhone 4.

A new report from Asymco details how Verizon is just a "small bang" in iPhone sales, and how the "big bang" is actually happening overseas.

Skyfire, most famous for its mobile web browsers, has announced a new iOS app that promises to finally bring Flash to Apple's mobile devices.

In bringing functionality to the App Store that Apple has been adamant that it doesn't want, the Skyfire VideoQ app is available in just the United States and Canada for now, with both the iPad and iPhone app expected to be released internationally at a later date...

Apple is Number One Smartphone Manufacturer in US

A new report from Nielsen says that Apple is the number one smartphone vendor in the US, while Android remains the most popular mobile operating system. This research follows Apple's last earnings call, in which it was announced that 20 million iPhones were sold in the last business quarter.

Following Apple's dominance in the US is, surprisingly, Motorola. Samsung actually placed third, with both Motorola and Samsung owning a huge percentage of the Android market. Essentially, Apple moves more hardware while Android gets installed on more handsets.

iPhone 5 Launch in Second Week of September, iPad 3 to Follow Shortly After

According to China Times, the iPhone 5 is set to be released in the second week of September with an opening order of 4 million units. This speculation lines up with current predictions.

While it's generally accepted that Android smartphones sell like hot cakes, it might not all be good news for the platform. According to one report, the strong sales figures may mask an underlying problem that Android-packing smartphones face— keeping the sale.

TechCrunch has reported today that Android return rates could be as high as 30-40%. For comparison, Apple's iPhone sees a return rate in the single digits....

Gevey SIM Unlocks iOS 4.3.5

Yesterday, Apple released iOS 4.3.5. The update fixed a security vulnerability with certificate validation. If you jailbreak and use UltraSn0w, stay away from this update. But if you are a Gevey SIM user, we have some good news.

Even though we previously reported that Apple blocked the Gevey SIM in iOS 5 Beta 2 and above, the Gevey SIM works with iOS 4.3.5...

Hot on the heels of reports that Apple Retail UK has been recruiting new staff for an unknown event in the next couple months, new claims have surfaced that Apple is undergoing a similar recruitment drive in the United States.
