Apple Engineers Contacting iPhone 4S Users About Battery Issues

If you've been experiencing issues with the battery on your new iPhone 4S, you're not alone. The problem has spawned a thread in Apple's Support forums that has seen over 100,000 visitors in the last two weeks.

Even with all of the evidence, Apple has yet to officially comment on the issue, but they're very much aware of it. According to a report by The Next Web, Apple's engineers have started contacting customers regarding the complaint...

Sprint: Android Phones Hog More Data Than the iPhone

Sprint CEO Dan Hesse recently made a few interesting comments about the iPhone on his network. Namely, Hesse noted that Android users put more of a strain on Sprint's network than new iPhone owners.

Android apps are "more chatty" with the network, and iPhone apps do a better job of handling data via W-Fi networks and offloading information.  Due to the iPhone's light footprint on Sprint's network, the carrier plans to continue offering an unlimited data plan for the indefinite future.

Apple Giving Away Free Copies of JetPack Joyride

Apart from the weekly app sales we see from developers, there are other ways to get good deals on games. One way, for instance, is to go to Starbucks. If you don't mind their coffee, the retailer gives away free apps to their customers.

But what if you don't like coffee? Well then you could check Apple's App Store Facebook site. According to TouchArcade, the company has started giving away free app promo codes to Facebook users that "Like" the App Store's page...

How to Get Your iPod App Back on iOS 5

I never understood why Apple decided to make the iPhone like the iPod touch — separating the iPod app into Music and Videos — but I guess they are wanting to move away from the "iPod" moniker.

If you hate having separate Music and Video apps as much as I do, then you'll certainly be interested in Unified iPod for iOS 5 — a jailbreak tweak that brings the iPod app back in style on iOS 5...

Sprint Had to Cough Up $15.5 Billion to Get The iPhone

Sprint has revealed that its deal to carry Apple's iPhone will run for four years, costing a whopping $15.5 billion.

The carrier has been criticised for the money it had to pay Apple to get the iPhone on its network, although, with AT&T and Verizon already sporting the iPhone on their networks, it's debatable whether Sprint really had any choice but to cough up the cash.

Fear not, Sprint shareholders, for your man in charge is confident that they can bleed customers dry, and ultimately, turn a profit...

MobileMount Stand Makes Suction Cups Cool

We've covered a few KickStarter projects in the past, mainly because we think some of the best iPhone and iPad accessories come from the little guy, rather than the big companies knocking out forty different iPhone stands in ten different colors. We also like to help those same little guys get off the ground, as long as their project is good enough.

The latest to come across our radar is MobileMount, which can serve as both a kickstand and a suction cup mount for iPhones, iPads, or pretty much anything else that has a flat surface...

SmartFolders Lets you Create Folders and Rules for Mail App

Even with all the improvements Apple has made to the iPhone's Mail app in iOS 5, there are still some glaring omissions, especially if you're the kind of person who likes to create folders and have them populated based on a selection of rules.

Smart folders are something that Apple has embraced on the desktop, with Mail on OS X featuring them heavily, which makes it all the more surprising that they haven't brought them to its mobile platforms.

As always, the jailbreak community has some to the rescue, and SmartFolders is just what the doctor ordered...

This Tip Could Cure Your iPhone 4S Battery

As someone who has been lucky enough to spend the last few months testing iOS 5 in various beta stages, it has to be said that the version we're all currently enjoying has come a long way since the early days.

When Apple released the iOS 5 GM not that long ago, I instantly noticed that my iPhone 4's battery life was lasting roughly half of what it was before. A coincidence, I thought. It'll sort itself out, I presumed. After getting the iPhone 4S, the problem persisted. Twitter and forums on the web over lit up with similar problems, and a few fixes were suggested, mostly to no avail.

There may be light at the end of the tunnel. Switching one little toggle in iOS 5's Settings app may hold the key to curing your iPhone 4S battery...

iPhone 4S Causes Record Number of Blackberry Trade-ins

Popular gadget reseller Gazelle has reported that it has seen a record-number of Blackberry trade-ins since the iPhone 4S launch. As of last week, Gazelle has seen a 80% increase in Blackberry submissions.

RIM's e-mail and messaging services underwent serious outages recently, which could also be directly affecting the increased number of Blackberry trade-ins. Android trade-ins also jumped 72% during the past month, with the majority of sales reportedly coming from Sprint customers.

Nokia Unveils the Lumia 800 Running Windows Phone 7

You don't hear this often at iDB, but Nokia just released an interesting smartphone line. The Lumia 800 and Lumina 710 were announced today, and both phones demonstrate Nokia's attempt at getting back into the smartphone game with the Windows Phone 7 OS.

Focusing on the flagship Lumina 800 handset, Nokia is making some very interesting choices to distinguish itself from the likes of Apple and the iPhone. It's nice to see some attractive handsets out there that may end up offering the iPhone some competition...

Quickly Send Emails and iMessages From Notification Center with WeeCompose

As time goes on, and as more people get their hands on iOS 5, Notification Center is fast becoming the next big thing in the world of jailbreaking.

Originally designed by Apple to offer a new home for push notifications, emails, messages, and anything else that pops up on-screen, Notification Center is also home to the Stocks and Weather widget. The jailbreak community clearly thinks that's a waste, and has set about releasing new and interesting widgets at an alarming rate.

The latest widget to catch our eye is WeeCompose – a handy widget that offers a quick way of sending new emails, iMessages, and texts...
