How to Install XBMC on iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch

At iDB we're big proponents of XBMC on the Apple TV, but what's to stop one from doing the same thing on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? In a word, nothing.

Inside we'll show you how to get XBMC on your mobile iOS device, and we'll give you a sneak peak at some of its awesome benefits...

How to Use Prompt as a Mobile Terminal Alternative

Okay, so I'm switching gears a bit here and talking about an app that you can download from the App Store.

Make no mistake, while I love jailbreak apps and tweaks, I also have love for many apps that can be found in the App Store.

The App Store is loaded with myriads of quality apps, and Panic's Prompt is one of them. Prompt is an SSH client, and a perfect alternative to Mobile Terminal for hardcore terminal users.

Did you know It also allows you to browse the root structure of your iDevice's file system if you're jailbroken and have OpenSSH installed?

36% of iPhone 4S Buyers Came From Another Platform

Apple's iPhone 4S launch was a resounding success by all accounts, and it even proved popular amongst those who already had a competing smartphone according to a new report.

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners today released information on a study it conducted of those who bought Apple's flagship smartphone. Two of the most interesting statistics show just how many new iPhone 4S owners moved away from competing platforms as well as how many plumped for the most expensive model in the range.

36% of new iPhone 4S owners apparently moved away from another smartphone platform, while 21% stumped up the cash for Apple's 64GB model...

Cydia Was Installed on 953,232 Devices Over the Weekend

Earlier today, we told you that the Chronic Dev Team was reporting that Absinthe, the first iPhone 4S-compatible jailbreaking utility, was downloaded more than 1 million times last Friday. That's huge.

And the Dev Team seems to back up that theory with a new blog post entitled "Welcome new A5 jailbreakers!" The post breaks down how many people installed Cydia over the weekend, and on what devices...

Evi is Siri for People Who Don’t Have Siri

Apple's Siri is certainly not alone in trying to be our digital assistant that knows everything and can help us in any way we ask. Quite how successful Siri is in its quest will depend on how you use it and whether your accent fits, but that's something we've already discussed to exhaustion.

One new app which is aiming to take on Siri goes by the name of Evi, which we're sure was chosen for one reason and one reason only – it sounds just like its competition.

Evi is available for both iOS and Android, with the latter being free and the former towing a $0.99 price tag. The discrepancy is apparently down to the need to pay Nuance for the voice recognition engine – an engine that is not used in the Android version. At less than a dollar we'll not complain too much...

Absinthe Downloaded More than 1 Million Times on Launch Day

Those of you who were wondering whether or not the 200+ new features Apple added in iOS 5 would make an impact on the jailbreak community got your answer this weekend.

In conjunction with pod2g and several other hackers, the Chronic Dev Team released the first iPhone 4S-compatible jailbreaking utility, Absinthe, to staggering numbers...

Rumor: More Claims of a 4-inch Screen for the iPhone 5

Rumors are very much part of the Apple culture, and nothing garners more speculation than the iPhone. We're only a few months into the life cycle of the iPhone 4S, but we are already in the realms of both the sublime and the ridiculous when it comes to rumors for what will become of the iPhone 5.

The biggest rumor that just will not die is one that suggests the next generation iPhone will come with a new, larger screen. With a 4-inch part being rumored strongly, a new analyst has joined the discussion, although they are apparently unwilling to share who their sources are.

Pinch of salt in hand with this one then...

This is Why iPhones Are Made in China

In a recent report from the New York Times, the newspaper gives us great detail about why Apple outsources iPhone manufacturing to China, and how Steve Jobs changed the iPhone 2G weeks before the release.

The report features many short stories from Apple employees who give first-hand accounts of why Apple decided to move their manufacturing overseas. The article also gives a very interesting look of President Obama's Silicon Valley Dinner back in February of last year . At the dinner, many Silicon Valley executives attended, including Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg.

Many executives were able to ask President Obama questions. While Steve Jobs was talking, President Obama interrupted him and asked him "what would it take to make iPhones in the United States?" Steve Jobs simply replied with "Those jobs aren’t coming back".

Apple Goes After Galaxy Nexus With Slide to Unlock Patent

A few months ago, Samsung's mobile president Shin Jong-kyun told reporters that Apple would have a hard time finding any of their intellectual property in his company's new Galaxy Nexus handset.

He obviously underestimated Apple's legal team. Reports are coming in that Apple has just filed another lawsuit in Germany against Samsung for the use of — get this — its patented 'Slide to Unlock' feature...

Photo Booth Ported to the iPhone 4S

When Apple released the iPad 2 last year, the company boasted its new dual-core processor and front and rear-facing cameras. These improvements to the iPad 2 meant that App Store developers could release more elaborate and intensive applications for the tablet. Apple also took advantage of the opportunity themselves by launching a native Photo Booth application for the iPad 2.

Despite having nearly the same specifications as the iPad 2, including a dual-core processor and higher megapixel cameras, Apple chose not to include an iPhone version of Photo Booth on the iPhone 4S. But, that's all about to change...

Absinthe for Mac Updated to Fix VPN and White Icon Errors

Those of you who have been having trouble jailbreaking your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 with the Absinthe app will be happy to hear that the Chronic Dev Team has just released an update for the Mac version of the utility.

The update, which brings Absinthe to version 0.2, is in response to a couple of reported issues with the app, including devices not rebooting after activating its VPN setting, and mysterious white icons...

Absinthe For Windows Now Available for Download

Absinthe – the graphical user interface jailbreak tool is now available for Windows machines. Previously only available for the Mac, the jailbreak tool makes it extremely easy to jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 in a matter of minutes.

Windows users have had another option to hold them over in the meantime; the iPhone Dev Team released a command line utility that worked well, but could prove to be daunting for some users. Thankfully that is no longer an issue. Check inside for more information and download locations for Absinthe for Windows...
