Tizi Turns an iPhone into a Siri-Powered iPad Remote

Some things still blow our minds, even with so much great technology and gadgetry being released every day. It takes a lot, but sometimes we just can't help bit sit there and say "wow, that's pretty cool." Tizi and the Tizi Remote app is one such situation.

Tizi is Germany's answer to Slingbox, allowing over-the-air content to be streamed to just about anything, including an iPad using the Tizi accessory. As if that wasn't cool enough, the company has now also released an app that allows an iPhone to act as a remote control for the iPad app, complete with Siri-powered voice control.

More Evidence Points to February iPad 3 Launch

We've been hearing rumors over the past few weeks that Apple is looking to launch its next-generation tablet in February of next year. The most recent chatter even points to a specific date — February 24 (Steve Jobs' birthday).

A February iPad 3 release is certainly feasible. The original iPad launched in April of 2010, and the iPad 2 debuted in March 2011. We've just uncovered more evidence that lends weight to the theory that the next iPad is coming in two months...

Top Jailbreak Tweaks of the Week

Welcome to our tweaks of the week. Last week you probably saw that the iPhone Dev Team released an unlock for iOS 5.0.1. That was perhaps the biggest news warranting a video, along with the Home button recalibration trick that seemed to be massively popular amongst viewers and readers.

As usual, please make sure to spread our iPhone, iPad, and iOS video instruction by sharing our posts on Twitter and Facebook.

We are so close to Christmas day now that we can almost smell the ham, but that isn't always good news. What if you haven't yet managed to pick up the perfect gift for that Apple-lovin' family member?

If you're all out of ideas, then how about giving the gift of apps?

LogMeIn Remote Desktop App for iOS Goes Free

If you are the kind of person that finds yourself needing to access your computers from obscure, remote locations, then you are in for a spot of pre-Christmas luck. Especially if you like to be able to access said computers from your iOS devices.

LogMeIn Ignition, the beloved remote desktop app for the iPhone and iPad, has been released as a free app, now simply called LogMeIn. The app works as expected, and offers remote desktop functionality for those that need it.

But how will LogMeIn generate money, we hear you cry. Well, it's technically gone freemium ...

Use Your iOS Device as the Controller for Real Racing on the Mac

If you know anything about iOS games, chances are that you've heard of Firemint's Real Racing. The two-game racing series is one of the most popular franchises on Apple's mobile platform.

The developers have really pushed the technological envelop with the title, making it one of the first apps to work cohesively with iOS 5's AirPlay mirroring feature. And now they're taking the game to a whole new level.

Popular Science Sees Readership Boost Thanks to Apple’s Newsstand

Apple's Newsstand is proving to be a big hit, both with those who own iPads and iPhones and with those behind the magazines and newspapers themselves.

New figures released by the people behind Popular Science show just how big a difference to subscriber numbers Newsstand has made. In the wake of iOS 5 and Newsstand's release, Popular Science has seen its subscribers jump by around 4,000, and its customer base continues to grow...

Apple Pulls iMAME Arcade Game Emulator From the App Store

No surprise here. It appears that Apple has just pulled iMAME, the arcade game emulator we told you about a few days ago, shortly after it surfaced in the App Store.

Judging by Apple's history with controversial apps, we figured it was only a matter of time before Apple removed it. Especially since iMAME can play illegally-downloaded arcade games...

iPad Receives 84% Approval Rating with Huge App Install Base

We love surveys here at iDB. Sometimes we get results that surprise us, and other times – and this is a prime example – we are mildly amused, but far, far from surprised.

The survey we are speaking about was done by the Software Usability Research Laboratory and shows that 84% of iPad owners are satisfied with their choice of tablet – a stat that should take few by surprise.

After asking users how happy they are with their iPads, the survey also asked how they use their tablets, probing the use of apps and the location where people use those apps the most. The results are just as predictable here, too...

Don’t Expect a 7-inch iPad in 2012

With the success of Amazon's Kindle Fire, 7-inch tablets have become all the rage these days. Rumors and analysts have suggested over the last few months that Apple is looking to introduce its own 7-inch iPad in 2012 to compete with the new tablets on the market.

While there seems to be supply chain evidence that Apple is gathering 7.85-inch displays for its next-generation iPad, a new report says that Apple has no plans to introduce such a tablet in 2012. Instead, the iPad 2 is expected to remain available at a reduced price when the iPad 3 is announced.

Skitch Image Editor Now Available on the iPad

I used Skitch on my Mac about a year ago when it was really popular, but the image editing tool fell off my radar after I started using more robust apps, like Pixelmator. A lot has happened to Skitch in the past year. The app has actually been bought by Evernote.

Skitch has entered the iOS world today with an official iPad app. The tool lets you edit and annotate images on the iPad with your finger.

pod2g Enlists Chronic Dev Team’s Help to Expedite Untethered Jailbreaks

pod2g has handed over the keys to his iOS 5 untethered jailbreak for A4 devices (which includes the iPhone 4) to the Chronic Dev Team. In doing so, he hopes to focus primarily on the A5 jailbreak, which covers the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

Since the untethered jailbreak for pre-A5 chip devices is basically finished, this will allow pod2g to get the iPhone 4S jailbreak back up to speed. This is very good news for owners of both A4 and A5 devices, because that means that both are being heavily worked on simultaneously...
