Fieldrunners 2 HD now available for the iPad

Amidst all of the iPhone 5 excitement around here, we almost forgot to mention that Subatomic Studios released Fieldrunners 2 HD for the iPad last night.

The long-awaited sequel to the popular tower defense game hit the iPhone back in July, and now it's available for Apple's tablet with Retina graphics in tow...

Apple just scrapes past Amazon in JD Power’s tablet satisfaction survey

Apple's iPad is once again ranked as the No. 1 tablet in the United States. However, the company's lead over Amazon's Kindle Fire is as razor-thin as its products. According to customer satisfaction researcher JD Power, Apple scored 848 points with Amazon close behind with 842 out of 1,000.

The Cupertino, Calif. firm can be thankful that US consumers found the iPad tops for performance and ease of use -- categories heavily weighed in the survey -- while Amazon hit it out of the ballpark in price, an area carrying just 16 percent of the final score...

Everything you need to know about today’s iPhone 5 event

The iPhone 5 is finally here.

After Apple in 2011 unveiled the iPhone 4S -- when everyone and his mother expected the iPhone 5 -- the wizards of Cupertino introduced a smartphone for everyone. Want something smaller? Check. How about a big screen? Got you covered. Need power? No problem. Although this was the first post-Steve Jobs iPhone rollout, there was enough technology and geekitude on display today that even the Man in Black would have had a tough time fitting in just one more thing.

Most of the rumors about the iPhone were confirmed. The iPhone 5 sports a 4-inch (1136 x 640) display enclosed in an aluminum and glass shell. That larger display is becoming defacto on smartphones. Not to be outdone designwise by Android, Apple pushed suppliers to use an in-cell manufacturing technique that embeds the technology used in an edge-to-edge touchscreen, eliminating the need for a separate layer.

iTunes 10.7 is out, get downloading

Hot on the heels of today's presser that brought us the new iPhone 5, revamped iPod nano, improved and redesigned iPod touch, the new EarPods and other tidbits, Apple has also just released iTunes 10.7. This release represents a minor update to the jukebox software, designed to provide support for iOS 6 (when it goes live a week from today) running on iPods, iPads and iPhones. This isn't the completely re-written, buttery smooth iTunes 11 that Apple mentioned during the announcement - that one is officially due in October...

Meet EarPods, Apple’s new in-ear headphones

It is no secret that Apple's in-ear headphones that ship with iPhones and iPods leave a lot to be desired. Sound quality is average, at best, bass is non-existent and highs sound a little too robotic. Of course, we knew Apple would be introducing a brand new headset today. What we haven't known is that the company spent three years designing the new headphones, dubbed EarPods. Yes, three years...

Report: iPod touch upgrade to include new colors, GPS and enhanced camera

Not all of today's news centers on Apple's much-awaited next-gen iPhone. The iPod touch, seen as the 'gateway drug' for the iPhone, is also expected to debut with a wider palette of colors, global positioning and a better camera. Indeed, one analyst is calling the 2012 iPod touch the "biggest upgrade ever."

According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the most noticeable change will be an expanded choice of colors beyond the current black or white.

Expect sleeker, faster iTunes 11 today as well

iTunes, Apple's more than a decade old jukebox and digital content management software, could be updated today alongside the iPhone, iPod and possibly iMac and the AirPort wireless base station lineup.

This comes by way of search engine queries that also revealed the iPhone 5 name earlier today alongside LTE, new iPod touches and revamped nanos.

This information aligns nicely with a Bloomberg report earlier in the summer which claimed iTunes would receive a substantial makeover by year's end...

Nicely done mini iPad dummy in hand

As an avid reader of this blog, you must have read all there is about purported iPad mini cases, the device's rumored shrunken down shell and other leaked parts. You've also seen mockups depicting its skinner side bezels and thin design and marveled at the nicely done interactive three-dimensional model.

All of the above, of course, is based on what the rumor-mill thinks it knows so far about Apple's purportedly inexpensive, smaller iPad. It was only a matter of time before someone envisioned what an iPad mini held in your hand would look like, right as we're approaching its rumored October launch...

Photo shows iPad mini and iPhone 5 cases compared to an iPhone 4S

Just one more day to go until Apple's highly-anticpated iPhone event, and surprise surprise, we have more purported case leaks. This time, it's a photo of an iPad mini and iPhone 5 case, among a 4S and others.

The purpose of the image is to give us an idea of how the unannounced devices measure up to their predecessors. And it's actually really interesting to see how the iPad mini compares to the third-gen iPad...

Powerleft shows how much usage time remains on the iPad’s battery

The usage time remaining statistic is something we all tend to take for granted on our laptops, but it's not something we're accustomed to having on our tablets; at least iOS tablets, that is.

Powerleft is a jailbreak tweak that aims to fix this oversight, adding a usage remaining indicator conveniently in the iPad's status bar. Now you'll be better equipped to know if you can sit through that 3 hour movie, without reaching for the charging cable.

Twitter enables web uploads on mobile site from iOS 6 and Android ICS devices

One of the cool enhancements in iOS 6 Safari is its broader support for standard HTML elements, including a regular HTML input element used on literally all sites requiring media uploading capability.

This support for media uploads lets Safari understand the standard Upload button that invokes a file picker on your desktop and replace it with standard iOS media picker.

Up until now, you could only test this on certain web sites, like the desktop Facebook interface in mobile Safari. Today, Twitter enabled on its mobile site photo uploads from a browser on iOS 6 and Android Ice Cream Sandwich devices, here's how it works...

This Amazon vs. Apple chart says it all

We love the new Kindle lineup of e-readers and tablets, especially the brand new Kindle with Paperdisplay and the super-charged Kindle Fire HD. At last week's unveiling, the CEO Jeff Bezos underscored that Amazon wants to make money when people use their devices.

That's why all Kindle devices display ads on the lock screen (don't worry, you can opt-out for fifteen bucks). And just like Google, Amazon is selling hardware below cost, hoping to recoup losses through content sales on Amazon.com. The only problem with this strategy: Amazon's profitability doesn't even close to Apple's....
