Double mockup: 12.9″ iPad Pro + next-gen Apple TV with iPod touch style remote

Apple may not be interested in making a full-on television set after all, if Yukari Iwatani Kane's scathing book, titled Haunted Empire: Apple After Steve Jobs (available on the iBooks Store), is anything to go by. Needlees to say, that's not stopping those mockups from coming.

Take, for instance, German website Curved.de which today put out an interesting concept envisioning Apple's rumored oversized iPad, the iPad Pro with a 12.9-inch edge-to-edge screen.

The same outlet previously mocked up a next-generation Apple TV concept sporting an interesting looking remote with touch controls that resembles the iPod touch. Unlike some other crazy concepts, the publication did its homework by basing the renderings on rumor-mill reporting.

I've included both concepts for your viewing pleasure right below the fold so have a look and tell us what you think in the comment section...

Crazy Taxi goes free ahead of upcoming sequel, Crazy Taxi: City Rush

This past Friday, games maker Sega flagged down a Crazy Taxi sequel, dubbed Crazy Taxi: City Rush. As part of the announcement, the original Crazy Taxi for the iPhone and iPad has gone free in the App Store for a limited time. This is free in a true sense of the word - there are no in-app purchased to spoil the fun whatsoever! Crazy Taxi is based on the hugely popular Dreamcast classic and if you haven't played this game yet, I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try.

It's a title unlike any other. I mean, what other game lets you hurdle off parking garages, barrel through traffic-packed streets and perform crazy combo and stunts as you attempt to scare up the most fares? As a bonus, Crazy Taxi is packed with humor and you can't beat the fun factor...

Rovio teases new Tiny Thief episode ‘Bewitched’

It seems like Rovio has been 'teasing' a lot of things lately. There's its upcoming RPG 'Angry Birds Epic,' and then 'Angry Birds Stella,' which is coming this fall. But what about for the folks who aren't a fan of the furry fowl-flinging franchise? Two words: Tiny Thief.

That's right, the Finnish developer has posted a teaser trailer for a new episode of its popular puzzler this weekend. The episode is entitled 'Bewitched,' and as you'd imagine it has a Halloween-kind of vibe with witches flying on brooms and—well, just watch the clip...

Both Apple Store apps updated with various improvements

Apple has pushed a pair of tiny updates to its two Apple Store clients (iPhone and iPad versions are separate downloads) this afternoon. The updates bring the two apps to version 2.9.2 and 1.1.1 respectively, and include various improvements.

On the iPhone side, Apple has improved notifications for folks using the app in retail stores—users can now view notifications from within the app and on the Lock screen. And as for the iPad, Apple has added the ability to gift card purchases...

Apple offering refurbished iPad Airs starting at $419

Folks in the market for an iPad Air will be happy to hear that Apple is now offering refurbished versions of the late-model tablet in its web store. You can find them in the 'Refurbished and Clearance' section listed at the bottom of Apple's online store landing page.

It looks like both 16GB and 32GB [Wi-Fi only] iPad Airs are available, in either Space Grey or White, with 3-5 day shipping estimates. And with the 16GB models starting at just $419—these are some of the lowest price we've seen on these tablets in recent months...

Apple has reportedly put its ‘iPad Pro’ project on hold

Folks looking forward to Apple's rumored 13-inch tablet may want to pick something else to pine over for a while. According to a new report, the Cupertino company has shelved its so-called 'iPad Pro' project due to various developmental issues.

Citing supply chain and channel inventory sources, Digitimes is reporting today that multiple vendors are running into problems producing larger tablets. The biggest hurdle seems to be a lack of support from platform developers and ecosystems...

Twelve South unveils Rutledge BookBook case that gives your MacBook unique look

It's all too easy to get lost in a dizzying array of accessories for Apple devices, especially with too many companies rehashing same old ideas and doing the exact same thing. That's why my initial experience with Twelve South instantly made me a believer.

They've been crafting gorgeous, functional accessories exclusively for Apple products since 2009, prompting big media like Forbes to suggest that Apple should just buy them outright.

And not because of the profits, but due to Twelve South's thoughtful design which is often reminiscent of the utmost care that can be observed in every aspect of Apple's industrial design.

On Thursday, the Charleston, South Carolina firm launched the Rutledge BookBook, a new edition of its popular BookBook case for MacBooks, hand-distressed to give each one a slightly different appearance, so no two look exactly alike...

Plex update adds free Chromecast support, automatic photo uploads and more

Good news for Plex users this afternoon. The popular streaming media platform has updated its iOS client, bringing the app to version 3.4. The update brings about a number of changes, including free Chromecast support, as well as support for play queues & shuffle support.

While the Plex app previously supported Google's Chromecast digital media player, the feature required a [paid] Plex Pass subscription. But now, it's available to everyone for free, allowing all users to stream videos, photos and music from their iOS devices to their television sets...

Darklings goes free until next Thursday in Apple’s App of the Week promo, grab it now

There have been some justifiable complaints lately among our commenters about the value, or the lack of it, in Apple's ongoing Free App of the Week promotion. Indeed, Apple's last few picks have been - and I'm putting it mildly - less then stellar.

Just a few examples: Wonderkind's Tiny Firefighters, Sega's Go Dance and Square Enix’s Mini Ninjas. Right.

That being said, you most definitely won't want to miss this one. Created by Mildmania and built on the Unity engine, Darklings was released last November to some rather glowing reviews (currently, a 4-star rating in the App Store) and has since gone to win several awards for its mechanics and interesting concept.

The universal app normally costs 99 cents and is now available free of charge until next Thursday, courtesy of the App Store's Free App of the Week promo.

Darklings is a gesture-driven endless atmospheric adventure game incorporating visually enticing Noire-style graphics (think Limbo or Badland) that puts you in the world of Lum as he tries to save the light. You'll be traveling through forests and caves battling darklings as you try to bring light back to the world.

What do I mean, Darklings is a heavily gesture-driven game? Well, you're mostly drawing various symbols in order to posses and purge your enemies. Read on...

Microsoft launches new iOS app for Windows Azure Active Directory users

Microsoft has launched a new iOS app for Windows Azure Active Directory users this week. The app is compatible with both the iPhone and the iPad, and it provides instant sign-in to dozens of cloud applications using a single Windows Azure account.

For those unfamiliar with Microsoft's Azure Active Directory service, it's described as a 'comprehensive identity and access management cloud solution.' But the feature that the iOS app focuses on is single sign-on access to various web apps and services...

United Airlines is looking to introduce a new inflight movie service for iOS users next month, according to a new report. The service will allow iPhone and iPad owners to watch over 150 movies and 200 TV shows on their devices for free.

Users will have full control of the content, meaning they can stop, pause, rewind and switch between videos. And it sounds like all you'll need to access the service is the United Airlines app—no purchase of an in-flight Wi-Fi plan required...
