On-rails shooter Star Horizon now available in the App Store

Star Horizon for iOS (artwork 001)

Great news gamers, that beautiful on-rails space shooter ‘Star Horizon’ we told you about earlier this month is now available in the App Store. This means you can download it now to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch (running iOS 6 or later) and get to playing.

Star Horizon was developed by Tabasco Interactive, and is powered by the brawny Unity engine. The game follows John, a private in the service of the Federation, in his journey through the cosmos as he rescues friends and battles the enemy in his warship…

From the App Store description:

John doesn’t fight to rack up kills or for honor and pride. At least not anymore. He just fights to survive and get the whole thing over with. His ship is controlled by Ellie, an Artificial Intelligence which is programmed to help pilots stay mentally strong throughout the war and which cannot kill human beings.

Federation is about to turn the tide of the war but then things start to go wrong. Ellie puts John into hibernation for 1000 years. Now he will have to discover what really happened and maybe, but just maybe, save the galaxy.

And some of the game’s top features:

Grab your phone and play instantly. Your screen is your controller (virtual sticks? Yuck!)
– Rescue your friends or obey the orders – follow the storyline and make choices
– Don’t get shot – upgrade your ship with in-game currency (no IAP!) and weapons to finish your enemies in multiple astonishing ways
– Follow the relationship between the man and the machine spiced up with amusing conversations and absurd humor.
– Discover a wild variety of spaceships and fleet
– Use your skills to unlock achievements
– Support for game controllers

And of course, here’s your official trailer:

The game actually looks really solid. The graphics are impressive, the gameplay looks smooth and the storyline seems engaging. But I really like that it has iOS 7 controller support and no in-app purchases—they could have easily polluted this thing with IAPs.

If the game peaks your interest at all, I think it’s worth checking out. You can find Star Horizon in the App Store for $3.99. Note that it requires an iPad 2, iPhone 4s, iPod Touch 5 or above.
