Warhammer Quest goes free as Apple’s new App of the Week

Like every Thursday, Apple yesterday refreshed the App Store's ongoing Free App of the Week promotion.

The company's been running this promotion for months now and we've seen both must-have and mediocre apps and games go free in Apple's continuing mission to boost downloads by giving cherry-picked titles additional exposure. Warhammer Quest by Rodeo Games and Games Workshop is the latest title to go free for a week.

Previously costing five bucks and now available free of charge until next Thursday, this dungeon-based game will win you over with its addictive mix of role-playing and strategy elements.

Released ten months ago, this iOS adaptation is set in the Warhammer world and stays true to the original in looks and design. The game involves hundreds of weapons, armors and items and - yes - challenges you to battle through the legions of orcs, goblins, skavens and other creatures...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 launching April 17, gameplay trailer posted

We recently told you about Gameloft's upcoming movie tie-in mobile game, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Building on the original Amazing Spider-Man, the sequel is said to offer flashier and more detailed graphics, improved controls and of course updated movie-based content.

Both the game and the movie are slated to land on the same day and now Gameloft's given us a firm release date: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is coming to iOS, Android and Windows Phone platforms next Thursday, April 17, 2014.

Unlike many triple-As these days, Spider-Man 2 is a premium title, Gameloft has confirmed, so we expect it to cost a few bucks and (hopefully) not include any in-app purchases. Gameloft today posted a new trailer showing in-game action and I've included it right after the break...

Samsung caught lying about tablet sales

Samsung, the South Korean chaebol, has an established history of stealing, cheating and lying. It's not just the conviction of stealing patented iPhone technology that dealt it a massive PR blow, Samsung was also publicly shamed over the discovery it had paid people to spam message boards with negative comments about rival products.

And as if that weren't enough, its shady marketing tactics has come to light yet again in an internal document proving Samsung intentionally misled Wall Street investors, analysts and market watchers by flatly lying about sales of its Galaxy tablets, thereby creating a perception that the iPad was losing massive market share to cheaper Android competitors...

Jaw-dropping iPad Pro concept: MagSafe, better multitasking, surround sound and more

So, is there a room for a new-category device, something between the tablet and the notebook? If you ask rumormongers, apparently there is.

Those of you who've been keeping tabs on the rumor mill are aware that Apple may or may not release a rumored 12.9-inch iPad this year - the latest intel points to a 2014 launch.

Maybe that's why we're not seeing compelling iPad Pro concepts, except for this one, but that has changed today thanks to Ramotion, an iPhone app development company. You may remember Ramotion for their previous eye candy concepts such as the OS X 11 mockup with an iOS 7-style flat interface or this one envisioning what Viber's iOS 7 redesign should look like.

Ramotion's Denis Pakhaliuk, was kind enough to send a couple high-resolution iPad Pro renderings my way, to share them with you guys. Their mockup will knock you off your seat so check out the images below the fold and meet us in comments...

T-Mobile’s Operation Tablet Freedom: 4G LTE iPads at Wi-Fi prices, free data through 2014

It is no secret that T-Mobile CEO John Legere is not one to mince words or back down from competition. Thus far, he’s delivered. The Deutsche Telekom-owned carrier, the fourth largest in the United States, has taken aim at rivals once again by unleashing the latest three-phase initiative that solves another customer pain point.

The new Uncarrier moves started yesterday with the announcement of a new Simple Starter Plan that includes unlimited talk and text with 500MB of 4G LTE data with no overage fees, for just $40 per month.

Thursday, T-Mobile made another huge announcement. For a limited time only, the carrier is offering 4G LTE tablets at Wi-Fi-only prices, with its interest-free financing that requires no downpayment and spreads the retail price of the device across 24 monthly installments.

Knowing Apple’s cellular-capable iPads cost $130 more versus their comparable Wi-Fi-only models, that’s a not-to-be-missed $130 savings right off the bat. Also, if you add a tablet to your voice plan, T-Mobile will treat you to up to sixteen gigabytes of free high-speed 4G LTE data through the end of the year...

Hands-on with ‘OS Experience’ for iPad

OS Experience is an upcoming jailbreak tweak that allows for true multitasking on the iPad. It's a tweak that's similar in function to the Quasar tweak that released a few years ago, but it's much more in-depth and functional than Quasar.

After testing OS Experience for the past couple of days, I can definitely tell you that the ambition behind this upcoming release is remarkable. OS Experience brings a desktop feel to the iPad, which is unlike any other jailbreak tweak for iOS 7. It's like Mission Control from OS X on the iPad.

We had a brief preview of the tweak yesterday, but we now have our very own hands-on video walkthrough of OS Experience. Check after the break for all of the details.

Next-gen iPad Air and Retina iPad mini to feature A8 processor, Touch ID

Rounding out our coverage of Ming-Chi Kuo's lengthy report on 2014 Apple products last night, we have the iPad. We've already discussed the analyst's predictions for the iWatch and iPhone, and now it's time to take a look at his prophecies for Apple's next-gen tablets.

According to Kuo, the Cupertino company is planning on launching a second generation iPad Air this year alongside a new Retina iPad mini. He says that both slates will feature new A8 processors, and will finally receive Home buttons outfitted with Touch ID technology...
