New iPads pricing and availability

Now that you know Apple has a new full-sized tablet, which it's interestingly decided to call the 'iPad Air,' and new iPad mini with Retina display, most of us have two questions on our minds: how much? And when can I get one?

While it looks like the new iPad Air is going to be available within a couple of weeks, there's no concrete launch date yet for the second generation mini. We've posted all of the pricing and availability details for both tablets after the fold...

iDB is ready for Apple’s iPad event tomorrow, are you?

After forgoing its usual spring iPad keynote this year, it appears Apple is set to unveil new versions of its tablet tomorrow at a media event in San Francisco. We're expecting to see refreshed iPads, iPad minis, MacBooks, software and more.

Though Apple is reportedly streaming the event for its employees, and hosting a live feed for journalists, we have yet to hear anything about a public live stream. But never fear, iDB will be here all day providing coverage and commentary...

Legit shots of gold iPad mini 2 with Touch ID or an elaborate hoax?

Today, the Wall Street Journal has come to the rescue establishing there'll be a Retina iPad mini tomorrow. Thank God for that - otherwise we'd be left in the dark. As for yours truly, I've had a great time watching some of the respondents in our non-scientific poll go from the previous 'no Retina = no buy' to the newest 'no Touch ID = no buy' complaint.

Ming Chi-Kuo's last-minute predictions have only added fuel to the fire by shooting down the gold colorway and Touch ID upgrades for both new iPads, the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2. Of course, not all of this particular analyst's magic tricks work out as he plans.

For starters, we've previously seen high-resolution photographs of purported iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 shells in Space Grey so there could easily be a gold colorway in the pipeline. Let's also not forget about Chinese sources that have recently leaked out an iPad mini front part with a Touch ID Home button - our strongest indications to date of Apple adopting fingerprint reading as standard across the board.

For doubting Thomas' out there, here's another last-minute leak claiming to represent a nearly-assembled iPad mini 2 in gold - and yes, proudly sporting the sophisticated Touch ID thingie...

Poll: which new iPad are you looking forward to?

We're less than 24 hours away from tomorrow's big reveal at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT so all eyes are on Apple's next-generation iPads.

By all accounts, Tim Cook & his sidekicks should unveil a fifth-generation full-size model featuring bumped up specs and a thinner and lighter iPad mini-style appearance. A second-generation iPad mini with the sought-after Retina display treatment should be on tap as well.

Even though it's customary for major Apple media events that some of the predictions pan out while others never come to be, these new iPads should be a no-brainer and we'll find out soon enough for sure.

Until then, iDB invites you to participate in a non-scientific poll and tell us which iPad you are looking forward to the most...

Apple could announce Surface style iPad keyboard cover tomorrow

A sketchy video recently asserted Apple's Smart Cover for iPad has undergone a redesign that may launch Tuesday alongside new iPads. Suspiciously, we've seen no credible leak whatsoever to support the thesis. Though Apple's filed for a number of iPad keyboard cover patents, it's unclear in what direction it might take the Smart Cover come tomorrow.

If you ask a former Apple engineer, however, the company is seeking to address the success Microsoft has seen with Touch Type covers for the Surface by releasing its own Surface-inspired keyboard case for the new iPads that will incorporate a physical QWERTY keyboard and a bunch of other functions...

WSJ: Apple will launch Retina iPad mini and thinner iPad 5 tomorrow

Joining the guessing game ahead of Apple's iPad event tomorrow, The Wall Street Journal in a story yesterday evening has corroborated the rumor-mill reporting by throwing its credibility behind the reports calling for a fifth-generation 9.7-inch iPad with a thinner and lighter appearance, as well as a second-generation iPad mini with the Retina display.

The iPad 5, the report states, will adopt a new kind of display technology which allows for a much thinner display assembly. Go past the fold for the full reveal...

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo posts last-minute iPad event predictions

Typically, when you see the words 'analyst' and 'predictions' in the same sentence on a tech site, you get a free pass to roll your eyes. Let's face it, the credibility for the majority of analysts is pretty low, thanks to crazy predictions like the iRing.

But there's one man who seemingly stands out among the crowd: Ming-Chi Kuo. The KGI Securities analyst is right more often than not, so when he speaks, people listen. And he just seeded some last-minute forecasts for this week's iPad event...

What to expect from Apple’s iPad event

Last week, Apple sent out media invitations for an event set to take place on Tuesday, October 22 at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, California. It's believed that the event will focus on new iPads, but OS X Mavericks and new Macs are also expected to get some on-stage time.

On the iPad front, we're anticipating a new 9.7-inch model with a redesigned shell, an A7 processor and other upgraded internals. And as for the iPad mini, it sounds like Apple's tiny tablet is finally going to be getting that high resolution Retina display everyone has been asking for.

What else? Keep reading for our full rundown of what to expect from this week's event...

Another report claims Retina iPad mini inventory will be limited at launch

With Apple's tablet event just a few days away, speculation continues to mount on what we may see unveiled on stage. A redesigned iPad 5 seems like a given, but there are still some unknowns regarding the new iPad mini.

The biggest question on everyone's mind is if the 7.9-inch slate will get the Retina treatment this time around. According to Peter Misek, the answer is yes. The analyst fully expects Apple to introduce a hi-res mini next week...

Tweet from T-Mobile CEO suggests carrier will carry new iPads

While we feel like we have a pretty good idea of what to expect in regards to Apple's new iPads it's going to announce next week, there are a few things we still don't know—like when and where the tablets will be available.

But we may have gained some insight on the latter question today. T-Mobile's outspoken CEO John Legere tweeted out a link to an article on Apple's upcoming keynote this afternoon, and indicated he's excited for the event...

Apple to host satellite stream of October 22 event in London

Earlier today, Apple sent out invitations to an October 22 media event saying "we still have a lot to cover." It's believed it will focus on the new iPad and iPad mini, but new MacBooks and OS X Mavericks are also expected to get stage time.

The event itself will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. But according to a new report, Apple plans to stream the keynote to a separate London satellite event to cater to media members not located in the US...
