Confirmed: Apple Reaches iPhone 4S Agreement With China Telecom

Apple sold 37 million iPhones last quarter, making it the top smartphone manufacturer in the world by volume. But interestingly enough, the record-breaking number didn't include any sales from mainland China.

With nearly a billion wireless subscribers, China is a major opportunity for Apple to increase its handset sales. And it's already starting to make its move. Earlier this month Apple launched its iPhone 4S on China Unicom, and now reports are coming in that it's reached an agreement with China Telecom to do the same...

Apple Uses New Lottery System to Combat iPhone Scalpers in Hong Kong

Earlier this month, Apple released its popular iPhone 4S handset to long lines in mainland China. But launch day didn't last very long, as riots broke out in front of multiple Apple Stores around Beijing, forcing them to close.

Scalpers were believed to be a major factor in the riots — they buy iPhones and other gadgets and sell them for a profit on the grey market. But it looks like Apple has found a way to keep them from causing any more problems...

Apple Lists iPhone 4S as “In Stock” on Its Online Store

Since the iPhone 4S became available in October, it has yet to see an "in stock" label on Apple's Online Store. Earlier this month Apple moved to 3-5 days, as supply was still a little tight. Today however, things have changed, and Apple is now listing the iPhone 4S as "in stock" for all sizes and carriers.

Selling 37 million iPhones in Q1 2012, Apple was having trouble keeping up with demand. It's unclear how many of the 37 million were 4S's, but it was obviously a majority...

The iPhone is proving popular in the enterprise also, with 53% of the smartphones activated being of the Apple variety...

90% of iPhones Sold in the US Are iPhone 4S

Tension Grows Between Apple and Google as Motorola Files iPhone Lawsuit

Reports are coming in that Motorola Mobility has just filed a significant lawsuit against Apple in the US over the illegal use of its intellectual property. Motorola believes that Apple is using its patents in both its iPhone 4S and iCloud products.

MM recently won an injunction against Apple late last year in a German court. And although the decision has yet to make an impact on Apple's sales in the country, it could certainly play a major part in Motorola's new lawsuit here in the States...

iPhone 4S Battery Improvement Tweak Proven Fake

Over the past week or so, there has been a lot talk regarding a recently-released iPhone 4S jailbreak tweak that supposedly fixes the handset's battery problem. We've neglected to mention the utility here on iDB for a couple reasons.

One, the tweak has only been available on the insanelyi repo — a Cydia repository known for hosting pirated applications. And two, it simply sounded too good to be true...

Huge iPhone 4S Sales Knock Android Off Top Spot

Apple yesterday announced its sales numbers for the latest quarter, and what results they were. 37 million iPhones sold is not a number to be sniffed at, and it's one that was enough to see Apple overtake Samsung once more as the top dog in smartphone sales.

The huge number of iPhones sold has also seen Apple's smartphone overtake Android handsets, with the competition – HTC, Motorola – reporting less than stellar figures themselves...

Tim Cook: We Underestimated Chinese Demand for iPhone 4S

When Apple's iPhone 4S went on Sale in China on January 12th, many were taken by surprise at the sheer number of people that turned up to buy one.

The chaos was so bad in fact, that Apple was forced to close its stores amid safety concerns – a move which simply angered those who had queued for hours, resulting in eggs being hurled at the store's windows.

Now Apple CEO Tim Cook has admitted that the company had underestimated the "staggering" demand for its iPhone in the country, and that they thought they had already overcooked sales estimates...
