Some Cydia Functions Remain Offline Due to Ongoing Amazon Cloud Outage

I think we can pretty much agree that Amazon's EC2 cloud computing reputation has taken a severe hit over the last couple of days.

It's now officially Saturday, and while a lot of the sites that were initially impacted by Amazon's massive cloud computing outage are back up, there are still quite a few casualties out in the wild.

One such casualty hits particularly close to home for the jailbreak community, that of course being Cydia.

Cydia is still partially down as of me writing this, and there is no sure-fire ETA to look forward to...

Cydia Experiencing Issues Due to Amazon EC2 Outage? [UPDATED]

According to a recent tweet from big-name jailbreak dev chpwn, it appears that Cydia is experiencing connectivity issues due to a prolonged outage of Amazon's EC2 cloud computing service.

EC2 is a service used by many heavily-trafficked services on the internet, and Amazon has been experiencing an EC2 service outage for an astounding 16+ hours. Some say that Cydia is working fine, but the jailbreak store has been experiencing intermittent connectivity issues since the EC2 outage began.

Untrackerd Stops Your iPhone From Secretly Tracking Your Location

Ryan Petrich has released a new jailbreak utility in Cydia called untrackerd. This utility blocks iOS from saving the secretly logged location data that the iPhone stores in a system file.

In case you didn't know, some researchers recently discovered that the iPhone records and saves your location coordinates without your permission. The location data is then stored to a system-level file that is then copied over to iTunes on sync.

Iconic iPod Click Wheel Comes to the iPhone with iClassic

With all of Apple's touch devices these days, do you ever miss the classic iPods? Sure they didn't have as cool of games or shoot HD video, but there was definitely something sexy about that click wheel. It was responsive and made browsing your music collection faster than ever before.

If you are looking for a way to kind of relive the good old days, check out iClassic. The Cydia application for jailbroken iDevices will allow you to bring back the click wheel, on your current touch screen device. But can an application truly capture the experience of the click wheel?

Dropbox and iFile Now Support Each Other

Remember when we told you that the popular jailbreak app, iFile, was going to gain Dropbox support?

iFile and Dropbox have officially integrated with each other to provide cloud syncing and storage between the two apps. With the latest update to iFile, you can send locally-stored data through iFile to your Dropbox account and vice-versa.

How to Fix That Pesky White Cydia Icon After Jailbreaking With RedSn0w

Now that a viable jailbreak solution has been released for the latest version of Apple's firmware, all is well again in the world of jailbreaking.

That is of course, unless you're facing the dreaded white Cydia icon of doom after jailbreaking with RedSn0w.

If you've rebooted, re-jailbroken, and the white icon continues to haunt you in your sleep, what should you do?

Fret not; all of your options have not been exhausted; there's one more thing you can try, and it's easy as pie...

Apple has Blocked Saurik’s SHSH Servers [Updated]

We've all been watching as the fight between Apple and jailbreakers heats up. What started as a cat and mouse game has become more of a battle. Apple has certainly become more aggressive in the fight during the last few months.

For starters, they recently implemented ASLR as a security measure to thwart hackers. They have also blocked Cydia access from inside their retail stores, and pressured Toyota into removing their advertisements from the jailbreak community. What's their latest move?

UltraSn0w Fixer Brings UltraSn0w Unlock Compatibility for iOS 4.3.2

Yay, we got a jailbreak for iOS 4.3.2! Ok, but what's up with the unlock? My guess is that the Dev Team is working on updating PwnageTool for 4.3.2 compatibility. When they release PwnageTool, most likely in the coming days, they will also update their UltraSn0w unlock.

Those of you who have updated to 4.3.2 while preserving their basebands using Sn0wBreeze or PwnageTool bundles are out of luck because the official version of UltraSn0w is not compatible with 4.3.2 yet...

SBSettings Update Brings New Features and Bug Fixes

In the past we've deemed SBSettings an absolute "must have" jailbreak app for all jailbroken iPhone users, and we still stand by that statement with the latest update to the hugely popular jailbreak app.

If you're new to the jailbreak scene and have no clue what SBSettings is, basically it's a completely free, fast, and skinnable device manager from the developers over at BigBoss. Here's the best part: to launch the app simply slide your  finger across the top banner and a window will drop down with several, customizable toggles such as  Bluetooth, Brightness, WiFi, 3G, Airplane mode, CallerID, and more!

True HD Enables Your iPhone 4 to Upload 720P Videos to YouTube

If you have ever uploaded a video to Facebook or YouTube from your iPhone 4, you might have noticed a drop in video quality. No, it isn't poor lighting, the resolution and frame rate are actually lowered. This is because a reduced quality video is produced before uploading, to save on internet bandwidth usage.

A 1280 x 720 video, 9 minutes in length, is about 700 MB natively. When trying to upload a video to YouTube or Twitter, the file size gets reduced to less than half that. To get full HD quality, you would typically need to transfer video from your iPhone to your computer and upload from there, but not with True HD...

New AutoAnswer App Now Available in Cydia

Ever wanted the ability to set your iPhone to automatically answer incoming calls? Auto answer is a feature I've seen requested several times, across multiple iPhone message boards. If your iPhone is jailbroken, you have a handful of options.

Applications like CallControl are nice, but have limited auto answering capabilities. If you have been looking for an auto answer app with more features, you need to check out AutoAnswer. The new Cydia app promises to handle all of your auto answering needs for your iPhone...

New Nimbus Web Browser is Free for a Limited Time

Let's face it, Apple's default Safari web browser on the iPhone could use an upgrade. It's not bad by any means, but it could certainly stand to add some much needed features. Maybe that's why 3rd party web browsers in the App Store are so popular.

If apps like Opera Mini and Skyfire don't quench your thirst for alternative browsing options, allow me to introduce you to something different. As of today jailbroken iPhone users can download Nimbus, a new web browsing application in Cydia...
