iFile Jailbreak App to Gain DropBox Support

Great news for users of iFile, the jailbreak Finder solution for the iPhone that lets your browse your device's native file system. It just got approved for DropBox API access, meaning that full-fledged DropBox integration can't be too far behind.

iFile is probably one of my most used jailbreak apps for the iPhone because of its versatility and ease of use.

Now we will be able to transfer files seamlessly between our iPhone's and our cloud storage solution of choice...

Troubleshooting Cydia: Problems with Broken Repos

I had a scary experience last night. As I was searching for a certain tweak in Cydia, I noticed that I wasn't getting the results I was looking for. So I searched for a few more apps and tweaks, and I kept getting no results. I thought about it for a minute, and then realized that every item I had searched for was from the BigBoss repo.

I've recently upgraded to the iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak, and I haven't gotten to play around with my main iPhone setup that much yet.

To my surprise, the BigBoss repo was broken in Cydia. BigBoss is a pre-installed repo in Cydia, so it's very odd that it wasn't working. The good news is that there's a way to re-add default Cydia repos without re-jailbreaking the iPhone...

Watch Every SouthPark Episode for Free on Your iPhone

One of the major advantages to owning an iPhone is all of the access to free content. Apps like TV.com, WatchESPN, and others allow you to watch popular media for free on your iPhone, as long as you have an internet connection.

For all of you jailbroken users, I have another app for you that will fill the need to watch free content on your iDevice. Its name is iSouthPark and it claims to allow you to watch all 209 episodes of the popular South Park cartoon on your iPhone for free. It certainly sounds enticing, but how does this work?

qTweeter Allows You to Update Your Twitter and Facebook Status by Sliding Your Finger

qTweeter by Efiko has been around for quite some time. Sebastien even mentioned it in his list of some of the best jailbreak apps last year. The funny thing is, I hadn't really feigned interest in trying it out until I came across it in my Cydia Changes log yesterday.

While I had heard about qTweeter before, for one reason or another I never downloaded it. I guess I never considered myself the kind of social networking power user that would need something like that. Well I'm still not a social networking king but I gotta say my curiosity got the better of me and I just had to try out this popular Twitter app...

The State of App Piracy and What Can Be Done to Fix It

[iDB does not condone app piracy.]

Have you ever been inside a peddler's mall? It's basically a huge consignment shop where different vendors come and sell their knick knacks under one roof.

People who have items to sell in a peddler's mall pay the mall's owner a percentage of their sales for the rights to sell in the store. People will come to the peddler's mall to see what kind of deals they can find and to barter with the sellers.

In a way, the peddler's mall is a lot like the App Store. And folks, people are shoplifting.

iQuickCall Allows You to Quickly Call, Text, or E-Mail with Activator

iQuickCall is a jailbreak tweak that allows you quick access to the number you call everyday. Using the gesture options built into Activator, iQuickCall gives you several methods for quickly prompting the option to call/text/e-mail someone from anywhere on your screen.

There are apps in the App Store that try to solve the issue of quick contact reference in iOS, but iQuickCall uses the system access benefits that jailbreaking provides for a more integrated approach...

One Man Turned Jailbreaking iPhones into a Full-Time Job

For most of us, we jailbreak because we want to. We do it to get customized apps, tweaks, or to give our iDevices a complete makeover. Even though the process has become extremely simple, we still feel a sense of accomplishment after our device reboots and that Cydia icon is glowing off of the screen.

I've jailbroken friends devices for them, and showed them how to use Cydia to download things. While software like PwnageTool and RedSn0w do most of the iPhone hacking for you, it still isn't recommended for the not-so-tech savvy. One Virginian college student has capitalized on that fact by turning jailbreaking into his full time job...

Create Custom Badges For Apps with AppTag

Another day, another new jailbreak tweak released in Cydia. The latest jailbreak tweak is called, AppTag.

You know the little "badges" on applications on the home screen that notify you with the amount of new notifications you have? Well, AppTag is a cool new tweak that will allow you to create custom badges on your iDevice without the use of a computer.

Dock 2.0 Gives You One Touch Access to All of Your Apps

If someone were to ask you why they should jailbreak their iPhone, what would you say? For me, the list of reasons could go on for days. The themes, the tweaks, it seems like there are a million ways to customize your iPhone once it's been set free. These tweaks can remove Apple's limitations on things like the amount of sprin gboard pages you can have, or the amount of icons allowed in each folder.

The coolest hacks, in my opinion, are the ones that make multi-step processes on your iPhone less complicated. Don't get me wrong, iOS is so simple a 2 year old could use it. But there are apps like SBSettings that will give you home screen access to settings for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Dock 2.0 also falls in this category, as it makes browsing multiple pages for applications a thing of the past...

UltraSn0w Update is Almost Ready for iOS 4.3.1, Fixes Bug Issues and Older Baseband Compatibility

MuscleNerd has confirmed that UltraSn0w update is coming for iOS 4.3.1 in a few days. The unlock tool has had several bugs and is currently incompatible with several older basebands.

To clarify: the upcoming UltraSn0w update will not unlock any new basebands. The update is meant for current unlockers that wish to update to the latest 4.3.1 jailbreak and keep their unlock.

Apple Once Again Sends Jailbreak Community a Direct Message

A few days ago, we reported that Scion, a subsidiary of Toyota, was trying to break into the jailbreak scene with innovative marketing methods. They were the first major corporation to direct positive attention to the community, since its inception in 2007.

This was exciting for a couple of reasons. First, a major corporation advertising in Cydia certainly made jailbreaking seem more legitimate. It also meant that other companies might follow Scion's lead.

Multiple major brand names marketing to jailbroken devices would have meant more recognition and credibility to the community as a whole. It appears that the silence from Apple was too good to be true. ModMyi is reporting today that they were asked by Apple to remove the Scion theme from their Cydia repo....

Certain Cydia Packages Not Yet Compatible with iOS 4.3.1, Jailbreakers Beware

The official jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 was released yesterday, and many people are re-installing and upgrading their Cydia packages.

There are some popular Cydia apps/tweaks that are not yet compatible with iOS 4.3.1. If you rely on a certain app or tweak, you might want to make sure the desired package is compatible with the latest version of iOS before you jailbreak...
